Lidl is sweet. I've only been to Lidl a handful of times, but I need to make a point of going here more. The prices are great, parking is easy, all personnel are friendly. Today I bought -- among other things -- 2 items from their weekly flyer: 10 oz Ribeye Steak ($5.99) 12 ounce package of (frozen) Sea Scallops ($5.12) An impulse purchase was 2 Oatmeal Raisin Cookies. I rarely buy cookies, but these looked scrumptious, so I bought 2, and was not disappointed. Actually (and surprisingly) better than my scratch Oatmeal Raisin Cookies. Also a pint of Cherry Garcia for $3.48. I keep forgetting to bring my own bags, and today I had to purchase one of theirs for 15¢. Not a bad deal at all. read more

I heard about Lidl's from a colleague. There is one thing I like about the store, this particular juice I buy. This is the only thing that's consistent. I mainly go to look at the fruits and vegetables, but I have to look closely because some of the fruit will have mold on them. Today I purchased a personal sized watermelon and when I cut it open it was completely bad. Therefore, I had to throw the entire thing in the trash. I'm sorry I don't have money to waste. I've seen fruit with mold on it such as grapes, cherries, and strawberries. Lidl's is not all what people say. read more

Lidl is what's up! I could never get on board with needing a quarter to get a cart at Aldi- no quarter needed here. Their dairy products are super cheap (like $1.70 for a block of cheese), and they have a lot of other good standbys, like fairly cheap shallots, garlic, and whole wheat bread. Some products are always there from week to week, and others rotate in and out. It's a small store, so for certain veggies/other products, you may need to supplement by going to another grocery store. I find that in some weeks I can get away with just going to Lidl, which is great. Because it's small, it's easy to find things, and easy to get in and out of there. I've had good experiences with their store brands, though they do offer some name brand products. It reminds me of Trader Joe's. My German and Austrian friends have enjoyed how there are some German products here, apparently including some German bread in the bakery. There's also a bread slicing machine you can use, which looks cool. Everything is very self service- you must bag your own groceries. Bags are not included, but you can either buy paper or plastic bags there, or they sell reusable bags. I'd definitely encourage you to check Lidl out- it feels like a great secret i stumbled onto. read more

I like Lidl. If you're not taken in by aesthetics, and want good prices and in-store customer service, you will like Lidl too. I agree with another shopper that it is not a 1stop shop. They are just beginning to have some brand name items, so for particular brands you have to go somewhere else. However, I get good produce, meats, dairy, and more specifically, their chocolate ice cream at prices below the big box stores. Oh, and so far, I've always been able to get assistance if I needed it. read more

Great little store. Not large like many grocery stores. They have similar items as other stores but carry different things as well. Moderate selection of organic food .Sales are great. Salmon and large scallops are a great buy. Fresh fruits and veggies. The store focuses on recycling so no plastic baggies although reusable bags are available for purchase. Bags are 10 cents to $1. Cashiers are friendly. Even if lines are long they always send another cashier to open up. Cute baskets available for the kiddos. They used to carry one of my favorite fruits, the persimmon but I can never find it there anymore. A lot of items are local which is great but I would like to see local organic tomatoes and not from Mexico. They offer a small variety of non food items for purchase as well. Worth a visit. This review is not very complimentary of the LIDL store located on Laburnum Avenue in Henrico, VA. In the early afternoon on November, 29, 2017, I shopped at that particular store and approached an employee, who was taking inventory at the wine and beer displays, because I was unable to locate the "Perlenbacher Lager Beer". The employee, very curtly, (I emphasize CURTLY) answered:" It's in the warehouse, but I have no time, right now, to get it." This is NOT the customer service that I expect from an employee at any store! With this type of service I have a difficult time believing that* this LIDL store will have a growing customer base. I am not a huge lidl fan yet but I love aldi and this is a close second. They do not have everything you need for your one stop grocery shopping but it is so convenient to have most of what I need at a decent price. I love the atmosphere and bagging my own groceries and the fact that they have coupons and an app. It is never packed with trendy people like other new groceries stores. The people who work there are friendly. I just hope in this area they can stay clean and bright like they are now. read more

I just started going to my local Lidl on Williamsburg Road area, I can hardly wait till I go shopping from week to week. I find the sizes are GREAT, the PRICES are GREATER and the selection perfect for my family. Yes, sometimes I have to go to another store, but, very rarely. The baked goods are fresh and a very good price. Veggies are fresh and at better prices than other stores. I really feel that I am shopping at a international store. Here in the Richmond, VA area, the Lidl chain of grocery stores just opened this summer. Last week, I bought a bottle of Rioja red wine from the Laburnum Avenue store. When I got home and opened it, I realized the bottle was corked, and it smelled and tasted like moldy vinegar. So today, I went to exchange the bottle for a new one. I was told by the store manager that it is illegal in VA for a store to exchange alcohol products. Knowing that this was BS, I showed her that she was mistaken by bringing up the VA ABC website where it said exchanges were OK under ABC laws. She then told me that it was Lidl policy to not exchange wine. Again, I showed her the Lidl webpage where it stated that as long as the local laws didn't prohibit returning/exchanging alcohol, that Lidl policy said it was OK. At that point she told me that it was BOTH the VA law and Lidl policy to not exchange alcohol and refused to exchange the bottle. Wha??? I have exchanged many bad bottles over the years at Total Wine, Kroger, Harris Teeter, and independent wine shops in VA with no questions asked. From now on, I will no longer purchase wine at Lidl, and I would suggest that you don't do it either unless you enjoy dealing with moronic, ignorant store managers who refuse to do the right thing, and exchange a $6.99 bottle of spoiled wine in order to keep a customer happy. I ended up calling the Lidl Customer Care 800 number and lodging a complaint (which took me nearly 30 minutes between hold time, and the collection of just about every piece of personal information imaginable). We will see what happens, but Lidl has pretty much lost me as a customer because they are a petty and stupid organization read more

Now, I understand the "While Supplies Last" thing as is advertised in their flyers, but when the sale deal is "Saturday and Sunday Only" and on Saturday at 1:30 in the afternoon I show up and the 2 items I wanted are already gone, that is totally unacceptable. This is not the first time I have had this problem. I did email my concerns to LIDL and a response was returned within 24 hrs. : "I am sending your feedback to the managers responsible for the South Laburnum location as well as the departments responsible for maintaining store inventory levels here at Headquarters. Rest assured, this issue will be addressed and handled immediately, so that all of our customers are able to enjoy our weekend deals both days of the sale. Without your feedback we wouldn't know how we needed to improve, so I appreciate you bringing this to our attention." We'll see....................I haven't heard anything further except to inquire whether their responder handled my question to my satisfaction. I suppose, but talk can be cheap. And also, the 12 pack of beer advertised on the front page of their flyer Jan. 30- March 5th? None there on the 2nd and 4th day of the sale. I love how much is packed into this relatively small grocery. Lots of natural light, wide aisles, LOW prices, and pretty produce, meat, and baked goods. They don't have a full service deli or meat counter, but that's one of the few cons of this place. They need to please add some VA wines-lots of great ones from which to choose! read more

Went to check out and the card reader wouldn't read my card. With nearly $300 worth of groceries already in bags, I was informed that the employees and management do not know how to manually enter card information. The manager did not offer any kind of compensation for my inconvenience and embarrassment and suggested I come back in the morning to shop again. Completely unprofessional and rude. read more

Lidl. I was really excited in visiting Lidl in the US. I've been to multiple Lidl's in Germany however I wanted to see how it was in the US. The look is the same, maybe a bit brighter as far as lighting but the overall feel is the same. Lidl is a direct competitor to Aldi which is good news for me and bad news for Whole Paycheck and Harris Teeter and Safeway (why do people still shop at Safeway) who perform highway robbery on prices on good products. Meanwhile Lidl has quite a few of their own products with name brands sprinkled in and German brands sprinkled in as well. Lidl appeared to have more variety and selection than Aldi but their prices also reflect that. Don't get me wrong, the prices are still a hell of a lot better than Whole Paycheck or Giant but still, seeing as I'm looking at direct competitors they are a bit higher than Aldi. But you know, if a Lidl came to Northern VA (I mean INSIDE 495) then I'd make Lidl and Aldi my two stores for groceries. Lidl, your HQ is in Crystal City...find some space somewhere and have a mega Lidl. Maybe they can take over some run down stores. I like them and can't wait for their expansion. read more
