We were going thru Guthrie and had to stop and see the licorice man. He was outside watering the flowers as it's been hot, so we got to meet his lovely wife. She took great care of us. They have the best supply of licorice and other candies. I usually get the ones tht are his favorite plus added some licorice Scottie's to the mix and some atomic fireballs. He says they are hot, but IMO only for a few seconds. The middle layer is the hottest but it doesn't last long. The prices are always good as is the conversation and he always has cold bottled water available on the house. If you are in the area and like this type of stuff check him out. Ambiance is awesome as is the service. read more

I was hesitant to go in a candy store as I never eat candy. I'm so glad we went in! The owner was absolutely wonderful! We so enjoyed talking to him and learning about the shop and the town. You can sample taffy and other candies to see which ones you would like to buy. They have local chocolates and international candy. We bought taffy, local chocolate, and international chocolate. I love the way the store is organized and everything is so cute and well maintained. Definitely worth a stop when you are in the area! read more

The Licorice Man, Rick, will tell you the two essential things about this store: 1) water is always free and 2) there is a bathroom. If you are an international candy connoisseur, you simply must meet Rick. Honestly, one of my favorite stores I've ever been in. I was traveling through Guthrie as part of my road trip and stopped in and Rick was the nicest guy you could imagine. He is everything that you want somebody who runs a candy store to be. And he had candies I had never heard of before. I've had alot of birthdays, and have been a lot of places, so thats pretty hard to do. Additionally, f you have a specific request, they'll actually find it for you. They even got a bunch of cool, hard to find sodas, including Cheerwine... the best! Rick did fill me in on the secret though, his wife does all the actual hard work of locating and getting these really exotic and hard to find candies, and he mans the counter and eats the inventory apparently lol. Cool place, cool vibe, cool guy. Definitely go. read more

I don't I've ever had a more positive retail experience in my life. My friend and I were doing some antique shopping in Guthrie and got thirsty, so we came in here initially just to see if they had any water. We were greeted by the owner, Ric, who welcomed us and said that we could try any of the taffy or wrapped hard candies we wanted, free of charge, and to help ourselves to some water in the fridge! Wow! Talk about hospitality. We made our way around the store, and were blown away by the excellent selection of candy, all while enjoying a great conversation with Ric. He and his wife have owned this store for 27 years, and live above the shop. We filled our bag with candy, and bought a couple of sodas from their assortment of unique offerings in the fridge. If I could give 5 more stars to this hallmark movie level candy shop I would!!! While scouting out Guthrie Ok and all its quaintness on a very rainy day I found sunshine inside this little shop. American black licorice is push posh but European is divine and something in and of itself. On instinct I passed first believing it to be just a name but when I looked it up it seemed not just a candy shop but an actual real deal black licorice dealer. For people who like the salty gnaw at it stuff this is exciting. But alas for those who aren't full on the salty hard tact stuff Mr Licorice has a super fun variety of taffy's , retro candies, and chocolates; as well as a good selection of old fashion jar candies. If you have ever wanted to buy candy in a hallmark movie candy store this is the place for you. While small in square footage the selection was fabulous and MOST WONDERFUL BEST was the owner. From the moment I walked in it was storybook welcoming. In all of my travels through the US very rarely to next to never have I ever experienced : 1. Such a movie like moment/experience in a cute store And 2. A small town store that ACTUALLY carried REAL INTERNATIONAL candies and confections. If you are in Guthrie please stop in for a step back in time, a step in international confectionery, and the sweetest most genuine customer service experience. I will return here time and time again. The most magical candy experience, and the warmest welcome. Greeted with an offer of complimentary bottled water, a restroom if needed, and an invitation to try any varieties of taffy and candies. The owner was quick to point out the weird and new offerings, and even helped mail a grab bag of licorice for a friend. Incredibly reasonable prices, and such whimsical decor. It was like a wonderful trip back in time. So many memories revived of childhood fun. The owners are soooo friendly and will make you come back to visit even if only to chit chat . They let you sample the taffy and jarred before purchase. Taffy is $7.99 a pound and they have so many flavors to choose from . Can't wait to go back. read more

Rick, the owner is so friendly and personal that it made for a very enjoyable experience when choosing the fine selection of tasty treats. The free samples helped us decide which candies to buy.
