Food: Meh. I went hungry and we ordered a lot, and I can only say I really enjoyed the raw oysters (which were gritty). The crab dip had way too much mustard and we could hardly taste the crab. Neither my companion nor I enjoyed it. The short rib poutine tasted like boiled meat on top of french fries. I don't know if they forgot the seasoning, but the taste paled in comparison to the photos on Yelp. Service: Our waitress started out nice, until she went from attentive to harassing. Literally every ten minutes, she would come, interrupting our conversation, solely to ask if everything was OK, regardless of the fact that we did not appear to need anything refilled nor did we look for her to come over to us. She just inconsiderately came by every ten minutes to stop our conversation and ask if everything was OK. I tried to give hints, like rolling my eyes and even sighing, to signal she can chill out, but she kept coming back. Finally, I said "Please stop coming to ask if everything is alright." She took offense to that, saying she was simply trying to do her job. I admit I could have found a nicer way to say please let me have some peace, but it was late and my patience was short ,and I mean common sense should tell you if you look at us in deep conversation or laughing, why on Earth would you incessantly try to interrupt that? And it wasn't even like she ever apologized any time for interrupting us. So with food and service being mediocre, I could not recommend this place. Came here and even after making a reservation we still had to wait. It was worth it though, we got some free candied bacon, seasoned popcorn, and cheese fondue and bread. That could have been a meal enough for me but we kept ordering. Everything from the drinks to the food was great. The grilled Brie was good- I've never had it warmed up like that before. A nice, local hot spot. Lib's Grill is truly one of the best hidden treasures in Baltimore County. They have a wonderful oyster bar (although that's not my thing) and some of the other items on the menu are top-notch. The place is always packed and the servers are always very friendly. The honey barbecue chicken flatbread is outstanding. The only reason I didn't give them five stars is because they seem to have changed their pretzel appetizers. All good- we didn't make a reservation. We started w the poutine (personal rule that I always order poutine if a restaurant serves it). It was a good dish. But it wasn't poutine. If you don't put cheese curds in it, just call it fries w gravy. The short rib on top was flavorful, but a bit mushy. Oysters were legit and very reasonably priced. Today will be our fourth straight Sunday there for brunch and I might say it has been flawless. Outstanding drink menu and atmosphere...Yes it's loud and crowded in the evening and on weekends...but would you stay if it were empty and quiet? I have told everyone I know about Lib's and they all come back and thank me. My husband and I do not have a lot of spar time on our hands, so when there's an opportunity to enjoy a dinner that does not involve our children you will see us in our favorite booth at Lib's. Nick Liberatore, the manager, he prides himself on making every guest feel welcomed. I love it all. They give you homemade pretzel rolls for the table with a cinnamon butter which is delicious...but WARNING do not eat too much because it's filing. Now, on to the appetizers. If you leave without having the candied bacon you should be arrested. It is decadently delicious. Yeah, you want to feel bad for eating bacon as an appetizer but after your first bite you're like "screw it"! I know my crab cakes, I was born and raised in Baltimore, but Lib's Blackened Crab Cakes are one of the best I've ever tasted. My only suggestion is to request them extra crispy (not burnt but not too moist...right in the middle). My husband enjoys the Maryland Crab soup but he would ultimately be happy with the Blackened Crab Cakes every time. Now, I'm an seafood lover...so if you have a craving Lib's is your answers. Their raw Oysters THE BEST! Their raw Clams THE BEST! The Fried Lobster Tail is THE BEST! The Fish Tacos are so good you will order a second serving because that's how fast you will devour them. Their Cracker Fried Oysters melt in your mouth. And, their Oyster Rockefeller leaves me speechless. As a a matter of fact, I just checked their online menu and I noticed it wasn't listed. I'm about to protest! (there goes being speechless). That's the only thing you have to be careful of with Lib's. This is a restaurant that is always evolving--which is great. They like to try new things, like their short ribs. About a few months ago, Lib's made a Dr. Pepper Short Rib that would make you open hand slap your mama, but when we returned the recipe changed due to the season. This is a review for the oyster bar. I popped in Saturday for the raw bar and got to enjoy wonderful oysters from all over the east coast. I was advised that they sometimes carry west coast oysters too, and got to talk to probably one of the most knowledgeable raw bar managers that I've ever met. Sure, lots of places have a good variety and allow you to basically build your own sampler with six or seven different types of oysters, all with their own flavor profiles, but this was the first place I've been in the area where the person shucking the oysters had personally been around the country tasting different oysters and did all the ordering himself. He showed me a stack of tags from the different oysters they'd ordered recently, and how he tries to have at least 10 different varieties on hand at all times. I didn't even get a chance to try the other amazing looking offerings they had. YMMV, but if you get a chance to sit at the oyster bar (which is merely just a section of the regular bary) with a true master, who knows his product and is enthusiastic about his craft, do it. Service was good. That's all that was good. The manhattan I ordered appeared to have been mixed with coke or something. It was definitely not the right flavor for this classic drink. Went today party of 6 for early dinner. Food was about 3/5 stars. Service 1/5 stars. The hostess was not attentive (COVID no mask worn, and about 15 people in the door we when we arrived). The server who thru observation was not new but this was definitely 100% not his actual role. No cutlery, napkins, or appetizer plates until about 15 min after our appetizers came. The server constantly cut our table off mid-sentence and would just walk away from the table without notice!!!!! The servers assistants on the floor were outstanding and attentive. Fyi: we were 1 of 2 tables in the entire restaurant! Not busy! Drink refills or even the waiters presence were not there nor offered. As far as COVID19 Practices. 2/5. Horrible. Manager coming from the kitchen to the dining room without mask. Cooks and other individuals coming out without masks, but definitely had gloves on touching the soda machines to refill their personal drinking containers touching their faces and then touching all around the wet bar. Too long for food that was below average. I had only one of the two fish taco appetizers as they were soft and had zero taste. I had salmon and requested no spuds and double veggies, but looked like single veggie and the salmon was cool and watery and lacked any taste also. We get there and it's not too crowded food smells great so my wife ordered the crab cake dinner and I ordered the swordfish dinner. We sat sat and waited 30 minutes for the food to come out which by that time I was irritated and ready to go I offered to pay for the drinks that we had and for my wife's dinner but I didn't want my dinner at this point. Long story short they bagged the food up cancelled the bill and apologized for the wait time. When I got home and tried the food smh I was blown away by how great the food tasted omg I will recommend this place to any and everyone. Great customer service. When I do go back which will be sometime this weekend I plan on tipping whatever waiter or waitress I get the total price for the food that they gave us for free ITS THAT GOOD. This place is cramped. I felt smooshed in my booth and there's no place to put your coat, pocketbook and such - which makes for very uncomfortable dining. Also, it's LOUD - omg; I could barely hear nor hold a conversation, so loud in here. A big no no - was that the second exit to their restaurant was blocked by tables. Now, to the more promising aspects: In the beginning, our waiter was slow - but after a few times of tagging him and reminding him that we're here - he bounces back and rather quickly too. In fact, I watched him work the restaurant, his customers and I have to say - rather remarkably, that he's a very good waiter. With us, after we tagged him; he didn't skip a beat - he remembered requests, knew the menu/ingredients/portion sizes, was quick with refills and was informative. If your service lulls, you won't be back, but if it's exceptional - that makes a restaurant shine, even more so. Now to the food, at last. Apps of fries tossed in truffle oil and shaved parmesan. Though obviously hand-cut, the truffle oil had a barely there presence. Zach (our waiter) gladly brought me out a soufflé cup of extra truffle oil and that touch more, turned a dish of mediocre fries, into something lavish. To me, the steak empanadas with cilantro and churrasco sauce fell short. It tasted more like a cheesesteak eggroll and I felt a tad ripped off, for ordering it. Also, was a bit disappointed to see that those very same truffle fries, accompanying the hubby's meal. Had we been aware of this, we wouldn't have ordered them as an appetizer. This made me think that our waiter was just out to increase his tip. Still a good waiter, just disappointed. My egg white omelet was divine and ample, in portion size. Silky, sautéed spinach, goat cheese, mushroom - sooo very good. Bananas foster french toast, must have been a big hit with my child; seems as though it was a magic act - here and gone, within a flash. Sigh, wish I would have tried it, at least. The hubby though, allowed me to sample his crabcake sandwich - a perfect, pure mound of crabmeat, little filler and light on the spice. No complaints here. Great new place we checked out when we were in the area. We sat at the bar & had over a dozen raw oysters. We tried 3 different varieties. They were all delicious but the house oysters were the best! The deviled eggs with crab are amazing! We also got the short rib sandwich. It's a giant chunk of meat but there was a big layer of fat that I had to cut off before I could even eat it. It comes with lettuce & tomato but they slide right off. It is VERY messy to eat so make sure you have plenty of napkins!! They really should serve it with wet naps! The sandwich is delicious with very tender meat. I think it would be better if they shredded the meat instead. read more
