Had such a bad experience in here last night I wanted to vent. Was meeting a friend and got there early, found a booth that had just been vacated and sat down. The waiter told me I could only sit there temporarily until he found me somewhere else to sit. I said fine and he brought me a beer. My friend arrived and we sat chatting; my beer was empty by now and the waitress wasn't coming any where near my table and the first guy never came back to relocate us. So my friend went to the bar and bought us both beers. Whilst he was at the bar, the waitress finally appeared. I told her my buddy was at the bar which seemed to make her mad and wanted me to pay for the first beer I got upon arrival, and made a remark about us sitting at a booth that was for more than two people. I suggested that we could share as the place was filling up and there weren't many options for moving. Ten mins go by and she informs us we have to leave as some other people need the booth. By now, place was packed and no other place to sit, never mind eat as we had planned. Left my unfinished beer and hit the sidewalk looking for somewhere else to go. read more

My boyfriend and I had originally been planning on going to the moxies across the street on a Sunday but they ended up being closed, good thing or we would never have found this gem. I was skeptical at first. The place reeked of bleach and stale beer and there were only 4 other patrons. Football blared across the bar as we sat ourselves in the corner. The manager hurried out from behind the bar and brought us some menus. I was surprised by the options - organic, gluten free, vegetarian and breakfast!? I was humming and hawing over the Phillips beer battered fish and chips or the pub burger. The manager suggested the fish and chips but if I was really hungry to go for the burger. I was pretty hungry so I went for the burger. My boyfriend got the buttermilk chicken and waffle sandwich, a true southerner at heart with a Canadian twist. As soon as I bit into my burger I knew my quest to find the best burger in Vancouver was over. The flavor exploded in my mouth as the juices ran down my fingers and hands, a little messy but so worth the challenge. My boyfriends chicken and waffles was pretty amazing too, I managed to get one bite before he devoured it. He got fries on the side, not the best I've had but definitely not the worst. I got the house salad, nothing spectacular. If you can get past the gouged up tables and the overall "I'm having Sunday brunch at a bar" feeling then you are good to go. Library square can be enjoyed with or without a crowd...truly! I don't know whether playing the video game Buck Hunter is kosher or not, but it IS fun. Whether you like it or not! They also have the classic Golden Tee, of which many a bruised palm have I suffered. I'm much better at Golden Tee than I am at real golf...hmmmm. Anyway, the eats here are a-ok as are the drinks. Server asked me what I wanted to drink and I said "tea: orange pekoe, please". She comes back 5 more times around her designated section taking other peoples orders but not ours? then she comes back and asks us if we're ready to order after sitting in for 30 minutes. I asked "is that tea coming?" to which she responds with "we're out, sorry. I was limited in teas" What? During the time we're grabbing the bill, I asked for more water before paying and my server said, "sure, give me a minute". She makes extra rounds on other tables close to me and even comes back with the terminal/machine for my bill but no water. Needless to say, I had to ask the bartender and he was nice. Next time, if you know your pub is going to have a full house, staff extra to cover more ground because my waitress was unreliable, unhappy and unforgiving. read more

I came here on Jan 2nd for lunch - it was really nice, quiet and peaceful. Ordered the Rueben sandwich and the other half got a pizza. The place was clean, the waitress was friendly / attentive and the food was great. The prices are reasonable especially for a downtown restaurant. Highly recommended from my experience. However...on game nights where it is super busy, I highly doubt the experience would be this great. read more

I've been to alot of pubs and this is by far the worst in terms of food. The fries tasted like it was made 2 hours ago or microwaved. It was stale and no salt at all. I ordered the $19 burger and it was mediocre at best. A&w mozza burger trumps it anytime. The burger patties were overcooked. I wish I did not go there today but it is too late now. To add to this, their washroom really stinks and I had a hard time breathing. And this restaurant is not handicap friendly, all stairs all around! Go somewhere else! Trust us! read more

This place is pretty lacklustre. If the absense of service wasn't so aptly complimented by the dry, tasteless fare, I would probably go back more often for a game, lunch, or an post-work-day beer. The best thing at this sports bar are the T.V's. If I were the kitchen manager here, I'd stand where the orders come up, and furrow my brow feverishly, with my arm outstretched, and thumb motioning downwards. I don't expect too much when I go to 'pub groups' but this last time, I left having original remorse, thinking 'those were wasted calories'. Okay for drinks but not much else. Don't think I've ever had a "Sunday roast" style anywhere else where the serve of beef is so blue it might as well still be mooing, roast vegetables that are so raw they still have that crisp crunch; the Yorkshire puddings and gravy were the only positive on the plate. Today was a bad experience. Food menu: limited and had your classic Donnelly pub menu...meh. I ordered the Caesar-it was mediocre and watered down. Ladies bathroom: Disgusting. Broken running toilet, no garbage can, smelled like puke from the night before. Could use a serious cleanup. Worst part: The place was full of hawks fans and could not hear the game at all-very low volume. We asked the manager to turn up the volume and he said no because his buddies were watching the soccer game (the volume for that game wasn't even on lol). Anyways we left and went to a better more authentic sports bar. Don't waste your time and money here- it'll leave a bad taste in your mouth. read more

Amazing place!! Me and my friends go there almost every week and we ALWAYS have a blast! The crowd is very friendly and the atmosphere is very chilled compared to other bars and pubs. We tried almost every night club in town and the Square is the best, beats the rest!! (by far!!) The staff is awesome and super cool and generous! Make sure you get there before 9pm cause it can get super busy and line ups tend to take an hour to clear. The dance floor is always on fire and the music doesn't stop till about 3ish.... The music is outstanding and the DJ spins one of the best tunes!! read more

Just got off the plane and checked into our hotel and went out for a bite to eat; all i wanted was something to hold my husband and i over till dinner. We walked in at 3:30 and apparently the balding bartender thought it was perfectly appropriate to ask if we wanted drinks to which we said No thanks then not come back for 15 minutes to take our order. He finally did and we decided we'd get a roast beef sandwich, upgrade to sweet potato (yam) fries. From that point it was another 20+ minutes till we got our food. Now would be a good time to mention there were exactly 6 other people in the pub. A couple who were finished eating at a booth behind us, a couple who walked in AFTER us but got their burgers BEFORE us (-either those were pre-cooked or they were hand shaving our meat.. and i seriously doubt the latter of the two. Or option C. the waiter just didn't care-) a girl slumped over the bar (must have been a real bad case of the Mondays) and another girl farther down. At 4:10 i said "let's walk out by 4:20." and my husband said "You're wayyy to generous." So. i kid you not i look at my phone right as it turns 4:20 and look to see the guy walking out with our food.. Oh wait. the whole point THE FOOD. Served on a wood slab the sandwich was good, i'd say barely above average. The au jus sauce was kinda thick but tasted fine. Fries were awesome! Don't get me wrong, not worth the wait or poopy waiter attitude, but i will give credit where it's deserved. We shouldn't have tipped.. but we did since i do believe in karma. Congrats. Where do I start??? Service is poor, food sucks and is overpriced. It was a girls night out, we waited 30 min to get drinks and over 30 min to get our food. I do not understand the hype. Unless you are an underaged kid who doesn't know any better, there is absolutely no reason to attend let alone frequent a place like library square. People seem to enjoy library square for its "divey" atmosphere, but this place has neither the low/reasonable prices or cozy feeling of anything that could be considered a reliable "dive." To me it feels like it's just dingy and too lazy to do otherwise. Furthermore the lineups are ridiculous and absolutely do not reflect the caliber of either the patronage or club itself. Last time I tried to go, I got there at 10:30 pm (early even by Vancouver standards on a Friday night) - and was told that the line was at least 45 minutes regardless of guestlist status. To top it all off everyone in that lineup was pretty pluggy-looking. No way was I going to wait for that club. Library square is where souls, taste and fun go to die. read more

My first visit recently, after a show at the theatre with a friend. We spotted it from the window during intermission, and popped by early on a Sunday evening (about 6 pm or so). While I know they were short staffed (as the waitress told us), service was a bit slow, and took awhile for them to come by with menus and such. Our waitress was friendly and apologized, but it took away from the evening. Food wise, it was good! I got a bacon-avocado sandwich and yam fries - both were just as expected, and tasty. Update on my library square public house review just 2 days later: I just received a personal email from the manager of Library Square Public House, Tyler. Not only did Tyler express concern over my negative experience but, he also offered to make up for it, He 's sending gift cards that can be used at any establishment under the Donnelly Group. You can wait for my next review!! Recommendation: If your fresh out of high school, early 20s go here, If you like a place where there are too many people stuffed into a tight space go here. IF you don't really care about a nice atmosphere and some sense of class go here. I went with a group of 20 for a staggette on Fri. Night "90s Night". We were on the guest list and we went there at 8pm to get our stamp so we could come back after dinner. That was very smart because I don't wait in lines. When we got back to the club at 11:30pm we didn't have to wait in line, just walked in. The DJ was playing great 90's music between 11:30-12:30 and then it was on and off for the rest of the night. The dance floor felt like I was in a mosh pit. So many sweaty bodies too close for comfort, I couldn't get my groove on. I looked around and there were so many young kids fresh out of high school and probably in their early 20s. Because I was with my girlfriends I pasted a smile on my face and I went to the area behind the DJ, away from the mosh pit, with a few of the girls and danced to the music.. I stayed way too long but not because I was having fun. I will not be returning to this dance venue especially when there are so many other dancing venues that cater to my type of crowd, music and atmosphere I would want to take part in. read more

My husband and I went here with a friend on a busy UFC night recently, and were told it was standing room only. No problem, we were expecting that, but I have to say, Paul and Sonia went out of their way to make our night enjoyable, even finding us seats with a great view of the big screen. We visited from Seattle for the weekend and ventured out to watch our Seahawks play Carolina Sat afternoon and ended up at Library Square. I would recommend this place for viewing Ballgames, other than that our waitress was very rude and demanded more dollars for Gratuity. Have been coming here for lunch for years primarily due to the location. The food has always been OK, nothing special but reasonably priced so no big deal. Recently their menu has changed, meaning prices are going up and portions sizes are going down. Mustard for your sausage meal is an extra $1! Perhaps the place is losing money. Not sure the current changes are going to turn that around. Count on spending $20 or more for a very average lunch. read more

I'm not sure why this place has low ratings. My friends have been telling me for months this is the best place in town to catch European Soccer (especially UK soccer) in Vancouver. So I finally decided to make it down here to catch some WCQ matches namely the England-Slovakia match. When i walked in i noticed it was very quiet which was strange for a sportsbar on a WCQ day. The bartender said they were only serving brunch which again was a surprise since it was past 12 noon but it turned out well. I ordered the NOLA french toast with the fingerling potatoes and a granville island lager. This place has large TV's which means you can catch two games at once. The thing with french toast you would expect it to have cinnamon and be very sweet tasting, but not so in this case. They had a bourbon maple syrup ( you can really taste the bourbon for sure!) and tons of peaches and blueberry which were a great compliment to the french toast. The portion size was very good for the money. the lager and potatoes complimented the the french toast very well. The waitress was very polite, professional and patient with me as it had been 5 years since I had been in here. They have certainly improved things here compared to my last visit 5 years ago which was not good. A bunch of Scottish fans came in to liven up the place (much needed) near the end of the match.All in all a good time to watch some WCQ soccer (footie across the pond. 4.5 stars. I always have a great time here. 80's night, 90's night, watching games. The food is DELICIOUS... wings and yam fries. Of all the Donnelly places, this one is the best. Soccer games here are intense. Waitresses are extremely nice. The bartenders are outgoing, and some can do crazy tricks unlike all those stuckup b***** from other nightclubs and bars. The only peeve I got is the distance and size of the men's bathroom. Its far in the corner, small, cramped, and drunken idiots always slip down the corridor. read more

Really friendly waitress but sounds like the management isn't so great. Was there with friends to have a bite to eat before going to a football game. Waitress was really friendly and helpful. Ordered brunch. One person in our party can't eat egg yolks - it's an allergy issue and that was communicated to the waitress and asked for just egg whites. She went and spoke to the kitchen and came back to tell us that they had to charge $2 for egg whites. She seemed genuinely embarrassed that they were doing that. It takes about :30 to separate two eggs. Seems shortsighted to charge that much for an item when it's an ALLERGY. Especially when you're already charging $16 for the dish. read more

Held a casual after-work function here yesterday afternoon (4pm - 6:30pm) for a party of 10. The GM, Lewis, was very accommodating despite it being a game night. Our server, Jayde, provided great service even though every seat in the house was taken and pretty much standing room only from 5:30pm on. Chicken wings, nachos and rosemary-garlic fries were all tasty! If you are planning on making this a pre-game meeting place I definitely recommend getting there as early as possible. Due to the close proximity to Rogers and BC Place, this is definitely a popular spot. Good selection of beers on tap and lots of screens don't hurt either. read more
