Came here after work with a small group. Since most of the Patios were packed around the city it was a nice change to come here. Nice Patio layout. I couldn't comment on the food because i only had drinks. The place itself seemed pretty quiet We were served by a very friendly girl named Jenn. We didn't have to wait long for any drink order. I would return again before a game. read more

Dined on a Tuesday evening. Very few customers, yet the service was horrible. Had to go to the bar and place our own food order. Was told by server it was coming out in 5 minutes. 20 minutes later, one item arrived. The other item was served separately a short time later. Little attention given. Food was just passable. Would not recommend. read more

I didn't like it at all. Walked in off the street with some pals from France to play pool and get some burgers and beers. It was the daytime and not very busy at all but there was a canucks game going on so whoever was serving me was not coming up to where I was sitting with my friends. Anyways I thought the food and service were junk. But I was at a bar by the stadium to play pool during a game (an away game) maybe we were interrupting them with our pool playing noise, maybe they were just jerks. Either way, I wont go back to find out. read more

stopped by before the Mumford and Sons Concert. This place is usually my go-to- location before a downtown concert. Great layout- nice vibe- and a great spot to be with a group. This place tends to get very busy before Events. Our Sever Jen F was great- Made some great drink/food recommendations. Even though the place was packed she never made us wait long on drink orders. Pro- Great service , Friend Server, even the bartenders had smiles on their faces. Cons- 1 little washroom? read more

Really good atmosphere, and drinks are pretty good too. Emily had a great attitude and was always willing to help. Would totally come back again! read more

Not impressed. 45 minute wait at 9:30 to get in, $10 cover charge, and watered down drinks. My friend ordered a double and still could not taste the alcohol. In a short glass that drink should have had vapors coming out of it, but it was super weak. The bathrooms are gross. There's cute bartenders and really good music (friday- 90s night) but it is not worth the wait or the covercharge. Who charges cover for a pub? read more

Been here a few times now so time to weigh in. The first time was just for drinks before a soccer game, nothing too exciting. The second time I came was for dine out and was pleasantly surprised by the food. Delicious: quinoa salad (great texture), pulled pork grilled cheese (cheesy melty goodness), chocolate brownie (moist deliciousness). Not bad: short ribs, salmon. Meh: panna cotta, alcohol pairings (no thought into the pairings plus our server brought us ice wine for the appetizer and was baffled that it would be a problem). Came back because my friends wanted to do the 90s night; I tried to make a reservation but was told that they don't take reservations on Fridays. But when I arrived there was a reservation sign on the table; when I asked a server about it she told me "oh.... yeah we just put the sign there... they just said they were on the way..." Not impressed. However, we managed to snag a couple of spots anyways. I was less impressed by the food this time; the cumberland pie was too salty and the chicken and waffles was just ok in my opinion. I usually like savory and sweet but maybe the waffle/lettuce/chicken/bacon/spicy mayo combo isn't my thing. However my friend was pleased with the giant piece of fish in her fish and chips though and my other friend said the beef dip was good. Too bad the pulled pork grilled cheese isn't on their regular menu. Service: the server might have been overworked but we had to flag other servers down to get her attention for more drinks and our bills, plus she dropped a glass on my friend's chair and got glass everywhere. Plus not even a hint of a smile the entire night, and we were there for 3 hours from seating to bills. Combination of the lame "no reservations unless we like/know you, the hit and miss food and the flustered service means I probably won't be back anytime soon. Unless I'm desperate for music of the not-so-90s 90s night. read more

Came here on a Friday happy hour. Service was great . Good selection of beers. I tried the Reuben sandwich $16 which was very good. Food prices are a bit high. Place gets packed at night and there will be a line. read more

Library Square - Pubs Near Me - Vancouver, British Columbia

I love all the Donnelly Pubs BUT this one happen to be 1 block from my home. Tuesdays have the best specials (2.90 beers). Get the poutine WITH shortribs! read more

Went to the Library on Sat, Feb 9th to watch the Canucks versus Flames. We arrived and sat down by the bar area. We waited for a good 10 mins before anyone provided any service. When we finally ordered a couple of bevs it took the waitress another 10-15mins to ACTUALLY give us the drinks. I would respect the fact if it was a busy night but it wasn't! Infact, it was rather quiet. So we now order food. I ordered their salmon salad and my wife ordered their veggie sandwhich with no salt on fries. My salmon was god awful! It was dry, salty and cold and the rest of salad was below average. The person behind me also ordered the salmon and had the same complaint. My wife's veggie sandwhich was weak. There was nothing special about it. It was overstacked with cucumbers and tomatoes. Nothing more. On top of this, the fries had salt.....hmmmm. I am being 'nice' even giving this place a one star. We will not be coming back. read more

I've been there on Dec 19,2013, It was not good as I thought! The waitress isn't friendly at all! Didn't bring me the menu n take care of its customer as expected!! Rude, no welcoming greetings! They just want u to come spend ur money without cares! I like the location n the place BUT NOT the service! The service is terrible except the big guy behind the bar! I Will not recommend it to friends and I will always hope something will change the service there!!! Have to!! Best wishes read more

Great beer, ambiance, food and 9 PINBALL MACHINES! What more can you ask for, grab a beer before the big game or head here after to celebrate the win or console yourself after a loss, projection TV and about 20 other tv's around the bar so you'll never miss the action no matter where you're seated. The weekly pinball tournament "Whopper Wednesday" starts at 7pm, no coin drop, no entry fee, it's CRAZY! read more

Good service from servers, but waited almost an hour for our food to arrive and were then rushed out because we were unknowingly sat at a reserved table. Food was extremely underwhelming, especially for the price. read more

Went here to watch the Jays playoff game. Lots of TVs to get a good view, plus they have two pinball machines, and a bubble hockey game. Had about 20 beers to choose from (all on tap, I think). Five craft pints and a thin crust-pizza came to $41. Pretty good price! There were some fruit flies (sat at the bar), but that's almost expected. We would go back. read more

One of the better offerings from the Donnelly Group, though that's not saying much. I want to like this place a lot more, but it's so inconsistent and bizarre that I just can't. Firstly, I've been trying to find the best nachos in town, and so far, this place is leagues ahead of the competition. So if you're in the mood for nachos, check it out. However, I've had terrible experiences at this place. From being ignored for nearly an hour (resulted in getting $40 gift card from the owner), to being out right lied to by servers. I had been going to this place to watch playoff Hockey (Devils!) this year. Many, many times. One day I go in and see the game isn't being shown. I ask the server if they're planning on showing it, and she says "We don't usually show the games unless it's Vancouver playing." Uh... Okay. Except for the last 40 times? I've also been seated at tables that are so shaky that they made ME fix the wobbling leg. Am I being paid for this?! Truly insane. Menu and prices are pretty good, decent interior, but the service is just truly awful. But again, it's almost worth it for the nachos. I would like to give this place a 4 star review, but based on the service it's getting a 2. read more

We were there about a month ago and have just been so busy. Firstly the bartender Myles made us feel like family and very welcomed. Service was perfect and it was a busy canucks home game! Was packed. This was our first time here and next time we're in Vancouver we will be back np. The food was great as well. Kurt was nice as well. And the manager Lewis was super nice. I would def recommend this place and have already to several friends when we know they are going into the city. Look forward to seeing U all again soon. Cheers Glen and Rhonda read more

Underground pub with a cool vibe and attractive staff. Happy hour is fantastic. $ 4 dollar beers, bottled wines and highballs in downtown Vancouver? Gotta come early as it starts at 3 pm and the place fills up quick. Hands down the Best prices. I came on a Wednesday and had $5 wings. Over ten flavours. Our Server, Angela had recommended the Maple Bacon, Amazing choice. She had also told us about all the deals on their food items including pizza and chicken and waffles. Definitely a great deal, and the food was actually delicious. Not what I was expecting for a underground dim lite den. Our server was friendly and attentive. Ive been to this place before, years ago and was not the same experience. Great job on the upgrades. read more

Called earlier that day to make a reservation for 10 and were told that they weren't taking them because of a football game that night, fair enough. Our group sat down at the only table in there big enough to accommodate us and were told by management that we couldn't due to a reservation. We voiced our displeasure and mentioned we had called about a reservation but were denied. Management then told us the other party were VIPs and had special privileges. The kicker was that they didn't attempt to find us an alternative and seemed indifferent to us staying or going. Needless to say we moved on to another spot and likely won't be back anytime soon. My advice, if you want to watch a game with a group of friends, find another spot. read more

Good selection of wine, the food is ok and the place was cosy and quiet, surprisingly. I went there on a Wednesday night. Good selection of beer too. The service was slow but friendly. Good place to go for a couple of drinks read more

Pros: Decent music most of the time...but that's about it. It's a place to get friends together and tear up the dance floor. If you have higher expectations in a bar, I'd say go elsewhere. Cons: Unfriendly service (see below), overpriced pub food. My most recent experience was really the icing on the cake: I ordered a single highball (gin + tonic) and was charged a whopping $9 for it. I pay anyway. I notice the bartender snickering with another bartender, showing off my change in her hand. Were they laughing about ripping off a customer? Who knows. Confused, I decide to mention the $9 single highball to the manager. He apologizes and admits that I was overcharged. He calls the bartender over, who begins arguing with both of the manager and myself, denying what just happened. End result: the manager asks me to leave the bar. Wait, let me get this straight...... I get escorted out because they overcharged me? Yikes, times like these make you wish you asked for that receipt. After all, I was planning on tipping anyway! read more

What is it with this place and their bartenders? Every time I went to the bar for service I was charged something different for THE EXACT SAME THING. One time the bartender threw the nearly $5 in change directly into his tip jar while I was clearly standing there waiting for my change. I'm a generous tipper, having been in the industry before, but seriously? FIrst you can't get your prices squared up, and now you want to determine what I owe you for a tip? Is your coke habit so bad that you have to steal from your customers? I should have asked to speak to a manager but it was busy, loud and I just chose to never go there again-and tell every person that brings up your establishment about the audacity of the staff there. From doing this I now know that it is not exclusive to this location in the DHM family of establishments. Bad form. Time for a housecleaning. read more

This clearly isn't my kind of place. When your "specials" are $7.40 for double high balls and $4.15 for domestic sleeves (not pints), plus taxes, then you are ripping off the public. What really irked me about the place was the whole conversion to a Night Club thing. I had to then start a tab with the waitress by handing over a credit card. The worst part was when all the douchebags and their hos showed up and jammed up the dance floor and all other spaces. The layout of the pub/club is not very conducive to travelling to and from the bathroom once the dancing begins. You either have to squish your way through the "dance floor" (and I use that term lightly because it is a tiny space no bigger than my living room, where they have just taken a few tables out of the way) or go around the upper level which is also jammed with guys trying to pick up chicks, so that you get dirty looks when you try and squeeze past. Once you get to the hallway back to the bathroom there is a sad and lonely long table that gets deserted once the dancing begins because you can't see anything from it. The bathrooms are way too small for the number of people they let in, and they clearly don't get checked and cleaned by staff throughout the night. Cyndi is right about the water everywhere, too. The driers are fancy jets, but they don't make up for the cramped conditions. I even bumped a poor girl in the face when I opened the door because she had no where else to stand but behind the door. They clearly let in way too many people for the designated capacity of the place, because I seriously couldn't move in there, and yet the snooty bitches still felt it was my fault that I had to squeeze past and would elicit nasty looks. Not my fault they want to cram us in like sardines. 90's night was pumping... however the ADHD DJ didn't seem content with playing songs for longer than 30 - 60 seconds, so once people got into the groove of one song it would be on to the next one. Which of course meant the DJ ran out of tunes quickly, so there were several repeats. Lame. Our server actually wasn't bad (she was nice and split my bill for me, and checked on us often), and the yam fries I had were good and came out quickly, hence the 2nd star for this review. But that's all the good news I have for this place. read more

If you make a point of being somewhere early enough to not pay cover then you shouldn't have to pay cover. Not be forced to wait in a line until cover is enforced. Especially if there is a table reserved for you inside read more

This place used to have character. A slightly off-the-path location, and the good feeling of a large neighbourhood pub, with decent food. It was a good place to hang out after work, or to meet friends to watch a hockey game. Now it's a neighbourhood-wrecker with no chance of it helping improve the area. Cover charges after a certain hour, a weird "we don't really care if you're here or not" attitude. It's the type of pub-club crossover that makes you glad there are no residences immediately within earshot of it. read more

This place absolutely sucks! The line is crazy, we got there at 9 and didn't get in till 11. They were basically letting the people who were willing to pay 10-20$ in addition to the cover charge in. I mean, it's awful to hold the people in the line for 2 hours and let the others in cause they are paying more! I hope people realize that and don't pay for something that they don't deserve. read more

I would comment on the music, drinks or food...if we had managed to get in. But unfortunately on Friday night if you are planning to get into the Library Square you have to...1) Get there uber early or 2) or wear something revealing. Just walking downtown trying to find a nice place to eat so we stopped here. Worst mistake ever. It was not busy at all, only one other customer when we walked in, and 2 staff who were behind the bar talking. No one greeted us when we walked in, no one offered us a seat, and all the tables were dirty. When I asked for a clean table, she said she would wipe it. When she wiped it she wiped all of the dirt and food particles off the table into my lap. We weren't told about any kind of specials. I felt like we were a bother and a nuisance. We didn't even order we just left because the customer service was terrible. The staff needs a reminder - they work in customer service, they should be trained better. DON'T EVER COME TO THIS PLACE UNLESS YOU WANT BAD SERVICE. read more

90's night! Was switched from Friday to Saturday (which was great!) and now its back to Friday which is... well still great but definitely a lot more tiring. The environment itself isn't anything special other than the music. Drinks are a little on the pricey side, but not unreasonable, especially since every night is a different drink night! double high balls are Saturday so getting your drink on on Saturdays isn't that hard. Unfortunately there's nothing that really stands out. The dance floor is kinda small, and the transition from restaurant/bar to club/bar is kinda rough. We were sitting on a table that had to be taken apart. We still kinda had some food on it that we were nibbiling on and had to pack it up. The food itself again, nothing special, I think the yam fries were tasty but not amazing. read more

Service was great and loved being in a real EPL bar. Wish they had more options for brunch though.

Extremely rude and unresponsive service(our waitress seemed like she had eaten paint chips during her childhood only way to explain that blank soulless look in her eyes). Terrible burnt salmon burger and not so fantastic cocktail. Designed obviously as a tourist trap as they're not aiming for return customers. I do not recommend! read more

Absolutely awful. My friends and I arrived at 8:45 to meet another group that was already inside. There were many empty tables and no line. Friday night, barely anyone inside but a huge queue outside. The people on the door obviously think they're working for some Vegas nightclub and are on a big power trip. It was my birthday and after a great meal, we decided to go somewhere after, big mistake choosing this place. I stumbled into this bar while visiting Vancouver. I can't understand these low reviews at all-this place is great! The drinks were absolutely delicious; The bartender (I think his name was Keegan?) could not have been more attentive and accommodating. He really put a lot of care into making amazing drinks, while managing to tend to a very full bar at the same time. I didn't eat there but the food looked delicious, and the customer next to me was raving about his meal. My boyfriend and I had originally been planning on going to the moxies across the street on a Sunday but they ended up being closed, good thing or we would never have found this gem. I was skeptical at first. The place reeked of bleach and stale beer and there were only 4 other patrons. Football blared across the bar as we sat ourselves in the corner. The manager hurried out from behind the bar and brought us some menus. I was surprised by the options - organic, gluten free, vegetarian and breakfast!? I was humming and hawing over the Phillips beer battered fish and chips or the pub burger. The manager suggested the fish and chips but if I was really hungry to go for the burger. I was pretty hungry so I went for the burger. My boyfriend got the buttermilk chicken and waffle sandwich, a true southerner at heart with a Canadian twist. As soon as I bit into my burger I knew my quest to find the best burger in Vancouver was over. The flavor exploded in my mouth as the juices ran down my fingers and hands, a little messy but so worth the challenge. My boyfriends chicken and waffles was pretty amazing too, I managed to get one bite before he devoured it. He got fries on the side, not the best I've had but definitely not the worst. I got the house salad, nothing spectacular. If you can get past the gouged up tables and the overall "I'm having Sunday brunch at a bar" feeling then you are good to go. I'd also like to note that even though this is a bar, the bathroom was surprisingly very clean and in far better shape than the rest of the place. read more
