We have always been infrequent diners at Libertine. However, whenever we return the food is always authentically delicious and is probably why this place has stood "the test of time" over the years while other restaurants have vanished from The Barracks precinct. Case in point, a recent wedding anniversary to celebrate and to return once more, this time for their 7-Course Shared Banquet. For $75pp it included Pork, Mushroom & Ginger Vietnamese Egg Rolls, Lamb Dumplings, Roast BBQ Duck & Spiced Cherry Crepe, Cracklin' Twice-Cooked Free-Range Pork Belly, Chilli Aubergine, Steamed Jasmine Rice, Game Farm Duck Frites and last, but not least, Crème Brûlée du Jour. It was almost too much for two people but we plowed through each course with gusto while taking a pause and breather before the duck frites came out. Pre-dinner cocktails and a bottle of Pinot Gris complimented the dishes and added nicely to the occasion. And our waiter, Kevin, was outstanding with excellent table management and timing. Suffice to say the banquet was a beautiful choice and the dining experience just as pleasant as we've always enjoyed. It's nice to see that some things, perhaps the things, never change. read more

Libertine has been on my 'to do' list for sometime. It is the snazzy interior that has enticed me in. We were not disappointed. Very friendly service, and a fabulous menu. We dined on the occasion of my son's birthday. Although it is not typically a "family" restaurant, children are still well catered for as some of the street food menu items are quite suitable and appealing for children. My husband and I ordered the "I'm Hungry" banquet, and my gosh, it was amazing! We were so full! My favourites included the San Choy Bao and the Chicken Coleslaw. Very moreish indeed. The kids had the Popcorn Chicken, the spring rolls, and sampled the San Choy Bao. They ate everything and my son said, "sooooo good!". Highly recommended, and I would be more than happy to go again and take some friends! read more

Libertine is one fine establishment. This restaurant/ bistro bar is a great place for early evening cocktails- especially when happy hour is on. The decor is a little bit posh but manages to still feel cool and relaxed making it a perfect environment for Brisbane Yuppies. Although I do not consider myself to be a yuppie, I enjoyed myself at this place very much. I came here with a coupe of friends one nights when 'Happy Hour cocktails" were on. I can not remember exactly what the deal was but I believe most cocktails were $10 from 5-7pm. We each ordered cocktails which were very well presented and tasted delicious. From the bar menu, we ordered the a duck dish, tar tar beef dish and some rice paper rolls. I admit, I was a bit reluctant to try the tar tar but it was delicious, this place knows how to cook. All the dishes were really intricate with bursts of flavours and even though the serving proportions weren't large for the price we paid, we felt it was worth since the food was at a high standard. Don't come here is you are after a bargain feed though. You do not have to be a yuppie to come here, you just have to have an appreciation for good cuisine in a chic-but-cool environment. I do not come to places like this very often, but every now and then it is nice to splurge on cocktails and posh bistro food and 'Libertine' is a nice place to do so. read more

Off the bat, I don't appreciate being repeatedly hassled about needing our party to order the banquet option. Especially after being told initially that because it's not a busy night tonight, it's alright to order from the a la carte menu. Considering there are 20 of us, could they really afford not to let us eat there? But anyways, we DID eat there. On this night, the place looked pretty packed to me, the ambience was loud and sometimes a bit manic with service. Arrived thirty mins before the booking time and was told the table wasn't ready as there was a lunch party that hadn't finished (at 5:30). Went back twice more and by 5 mins to the booking time, was told the table still wasn't available. Right. Fast forward to meals, I had the pork belly. The crackling wasn't all crackle. Most were rubbery, despite the meat being very tender. The sauce that came with it got a bit too sweet after the third bite. It was fairly good though. But I wouldn't say it's worth the $36, considering it's supposed to be a shared plate and was small in portion. Overall, the food was fairly good, the decor's beautiful but it's a bit overpriced in my opinion. I'm going to give an extra point for waiving the cakage fee per person. I didn't realise there'd be cake and the innocent me thought there was no such thing as cakage fee like ever. read more

Libertine doesn't fill me with the same joy I get from other trendy bar-cafe combos around town. In fact, sometimes I find it a little lacklustre. In all intents and purposes, it SHOULD be good. It's set in the renovated Army Barracks, a fantastic reinvention of a crumbling Brisbane icon, and I am a sucker for Asian decorations so absolutely love the rice paper-style light fixtures. I think here it's the service that lets it down for me. A girlfriend and I popped out on a Thursday night for some nibbles and a glass of wine, and the service was incredibly slow. We ordered and then when our food finally arrived, the wrong item had been ordered for us. I guess the moral of the story is 'always get your waitress to repeat your order back to you'. Sadly the food wasn't amazing enough to make up for the mistaken order - the whole experience left me rather underwhelmed. I would imagine they have upped the ante at Libertine since my visit, so it's still worth a visit. I've heard great things from other friends who have really enjoyed their visits, so perhaps we just happened upon a bad night. Location is great and plenty of parking on-site. read more

Perfect place for Asian fusion/tapas cocktail bar! Have been here a few times and it never disappoints! Libertine is conveniently located at the Barracks at the end of Caxton street. There is ample parking with the first two hours free underneath. It's also closely located to Roma street bus/train transit centre, so is easily accessible. The setting is done perfectly at Libertine. Inside feels like you are at a swanky wine bar, and outside alfresco is lovely with all the lights in the trees and Japanese lighting. A truly trendy place and a great place to catch up with a group of friends, or a date night. The service is always impeccable. Service staff are always friendly, polite and helpful with suggestions. We went on a Friday night without making a booking but they accommodated us in the alfresco area. We were immediately given a drinks menu and the food menu. We ordered our drinks and they came out very quickly. The food was delicious! We ordered for starters; San choi bow, and the rice paper rolls. For a main we shared between two the duck with a serving of rice. We certainly weren't disappointed with the food and it came out quite quickly too! The prices aren't cheap, but as the saying goes; you get what you pay for, and we certainly did! On a Friday/ Saturday it would be a great place for a social drink and some tapas. read more

A late review is better than no review ! As part of a Hens night Libertine was the dinner choice for the evening. We were all very impressed with the "swankiness" of the decor, the lighting while not over powering still left able to see what we were eating. Service was fast and friendly, the wait staff were very attendant and happy to cater for everyones needs. Even when we showed up with more people than expected they discretely added a table with little fuss. We choose the shared food option and it was all brought out piping hot and well presented. The serves were brought out in good timing, leaving time between courses to chat and enioy what we had just eaten. The chicken was amazing, although a fork wouldn't have gone astray, as my pre dinner drinks had begun to kick in! I would definitely visit Libertine again! read more

Let me begin by saying the food here is great, of the many dishes I have sampled here they have all been absolutely moreish and full of flavor. When I last ventured here I was with a group of approximately 10 people and the service was very slow and not as attentive as I would expect (having had some excellent, speedy service from several of Libertine's neighbors). After perusing the menu for a while we were in need of some helpful advice regarding quantity and general info about a few of the options, the response we received from the waitress was unhelpful to say the least, it almost seemed as if what we were asking was strange...We were eventually told how much we should order to satisfy us and unfortunately by all accounts it fell short, we had to order several more of a few select items, which took more time then we would have hoped. I think if the service was a little quicker, informative/helpful we would have been more satisfied with the experience as a whole, unfortunately the food (although great) was not enough to make the majority want to return. I particularly loved the Saigon chicken wings and Hiramasa Kingfish Tartars (Yum). I suggest coming when its at its quietest (like I will next time as I believe this place has promise) and maybe in a smaller party to avoid service issues! read more

Libertine Bar and Restaurant in the new Barracks development ticks all the right boxes. A funky terrace with bijoux mismatched tables and chairs, shady umbrellas and red paper lanterns give a clue towards to Asian-French fusion theme. For balmy days ( of which Brisbane has many ) the courtyard is the perfect place to sip a cold beer or cocktail and the piped jazz or ambient music nearly drowns out the four lanes of traffic outside. Interiors are a mix of Parisian cafe chairs in Mao-red, decadent chandeliers dripping with crystal, flocked floral wallpapers and carved wooden screens. The wine list is extensive with no fewer than 34 luscious reds to agonise over. Food is no less of a dilemma, with Vietnamese fishcakes, Coffin Bay oysters and chicken rice paper rolls all making an appearance. The staff members seem friendly and are less pretentious than other nearby high-class eateries. All-in-all I'd say four out of five for the experience. I found the food a bit pricey, but for the quality, I'd say it was certainly on par with other new Brisbane cool night-spots. My partner took me here as a surprise for Valentines Day and instructed me to order by what my taste buds said, not the prices on the menu...Good thing he did otherwise I would have stuck to a single entree. There is a $75pp minimum but if you're a lover of french/vietnamese food this is the place to spend your cash. The staff are lovely and friendly, eager to suggest delicious delights on the menu. They also don't bother you to much, wish is essential for a romantic evening. I can not express how amazing the food was. The two things which most stuck in my mind are the pork belly, tender and juicy, and the cocktail in a bag. Felt like being back in Singapore drinking Kopi on a hot day. read more

Everyone's heard about how fancy and cool Libertine is so I'm not going to waste valuable thumb movement there, it's true it's cool. Had the "I'm Hungry" banquet and it was worth every cent (it was only $55) the 7 courses, yes 7, we each more than ample and delicious! Highly recommended and they were also more than willing to alter the banquet for those with allergies, which is nice! All in all Libertine is definitely a place to go if you're looking to be fancy, impress or just have some good food and drink. read more

We have visited Libertine many times, and once again we experienced hospitality at its finest. A group of year 12 students and their teachers, we took advantage of the Monday Night movie dinner, fantastic value at $35pp. The staff, Shannon behind the bar and Steven our waiter, treated the students as VIP guests & created special mocktails and served us the delicious sharing menu. Portions were generous and the five spice Popcorn chicken was a big hit. The rare Crying Tiger beef was demolished, even conservative kids trying it. Libertine is an experience not to be missed, from the cool decor inside to the Lantern Terrace on a warm night, it's top of my list! read more

Pretty nice sort-of-Asian ('fusion', I guess) tapas-style dining. Some of the dishes are a bit overpriced (e.g. $6 for a single scallop) unless you're there during 2-for-1 hour, and don't expect large portions. That said, I only needed a couple of (admittedly doubled) individual dishes to fill up, and I expect the banquet is more than filling. Absolutely appalled at the attitude of the majority of the staff. I have waited a long time to eat here and I was so disappointed. Don't get me wrong the food is fine, but only fine. It's far too expensive for the complete lack of service. What should of been a pleasant night out for a friends bday was massive disappointment to the entire table. We could of walked out without paying but it's not our style. We did cut our night short there to move to the Mexican place around the corner for coffee, desert and many cocktails. Our presence was clearly an inconvenience to the staff at libertine. Don't waste your money, most places give that level of attitude for way cheaper. read more

The food in this place is great - at least 4 stars. But some of the staff would rather be elsewhere. If I was the owner and I saw how they rolled their eyes when customers tried to spend money, I'd be furious. It could have just been a bad night for a particular Russian bar manager, but she treated our party like she was doing us a favour by serving us drinks an hour before closing time. Little things like that in hospitality will drive people to places like Statler and Waldorf where staff are pleased to see you. read more
