    Tasmanian Salmon (with a shadow)
    Julien B.

First of all, I wanted to sit at the counter since I was alone but the waitress told me that the counter seats, which were all empty, were not easily accessible (needed to slalom between tables) and that I would end up sitting too closely to the tables behind me which was, she assumed, not confortable. Why put seats at the counter if you discourage people from sitting on them? Anyhow I ended up sitting very comfortably at the counter. Service was a bit slow and I was ignored quite a few times but to the staff's defense it was a busy night. The Cab-Merlot from Western Australia was very good but the food was not. I am used to great food in Melbourne or Sydney. The salmon was just ok and the sides a bit cold. On top of that portions were small for the price (Singapore style) and I had to take wings afterwards to fill my stomach! The atmosphere is nice and they forgot to charge me for a glass of wine. Normally I would be pretty honest about it but this time I thought I deserved a free glass.

Our first time here. 1) LONG WAIT We were seated at 930am, ordered 3 breakfast and coffees. We got served after half an hr, around 1005am. The restaurant was not busy..but under-staffed for sure. 2) WRONG ORDER We ordered a) special breakfast without bacon and chipolatas (to be replaced with mushroom), b) mushroom and feta, and c) Scambled eggs with bacon. When food arrived, the order for the special breakfast was incorrect. The manager came back without the bacon but told us they ran out of mushroom. . I asked for ketchup 3 times, the manager told me that I will have to wait for her to put the order in. 3) FOOD QUALITY WAS TERRIBLE When we tasted the food. The poached egg became boiled egg. The vege and beans on the 19 dollar breakfast looks pretty sad The sourdough bread was hard as a rock (impossible to break it apart), the mushrooms were way overcooked and extremely chewy. Everything was dry. 4) POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE (MANAGER) I went up to pay. the customer next to us told us to give the restaurant some feedback to help them to improve their business. I agree. When i relate the feedback and showed her the unfinished food, She said if we had pointed out when the food arrived, she would be able to send it back to the kitchen. She said there is nothing that she can do but to charge us. I told her that's fine, i am not asking for free food. I can pay. I just wanted to give them some honest feedback. I asked if she sampled her restaurant food. She said she has been eating there on a daily basis and haven't had an issue with it. the manager told me that " in fact, this is the only complaint we had for the day". -- FACE PALM..i guess we were the unlucky ones. Customers on other tables were waiting up to 45 mins for their food. They told us, "Gordon Ramsay should come and kick their ass to get some food out of the kitchen".

Vibe gets full marks here: 1920s, Prohibition-era? Sign me up. The cocktails were good (though sometimes they sat on the bar, apparently forgotten, for a while before they were brought to us), and they have some very inventive and interesting concoctions available: all worth a try. There is nothing vegan on the menu. We asked if we could get the truffle parmesan fries without parmesan and could we please get tomato sauce or something instead of the aioli and were told there there were NO VEGAN SAUCES in the kitchen (and were glared at by the chef). So, instead, we drank all their booze. Though I'm naturally suspicious of places in South Bank, the Little Stanley St precinct has grown up a lot, and you will very quickly forget that you're but metres away from convenience food. Staff were extremely polite and constantly checked that we were happy with our experience. I would certainly go back there for drinks if invited.

    Blue Lagoon Mocktail

The service was satisfactory although one server was a little bit hard to hear as they mumbled. It wasn't too loud and the $20 steak, chips and drink special initially seemed like a small portion but my partner and I left feeling very satisfied. The Blue Lagoon mocktail was absolutely delicious. Overall it was a lovely meal and a good experience.

Jam-packed with people of all ages from all the countries the beautiful world has to offer. Only catch is, you can only get in if you're a traveller or student (ID/Passport required) and if you're a girl. Although we have snuck the odd guy in with a bunch of girls with much success. It helps if you know the bouncer. They play music with the likes of Love Shack, Horny, Addicted to Bass and a lot of songs popular all over the world with the kids in the 90s era. They do go back to Dancing Queen and Mr Wendal as well and boy can you boogy to the tunes of this place. Be prepared to have some form of alcohol spilt on your fancy clothes every time you go there. Be prepared for people dancing on tables (even though they've banned it). Be prepared to body squish your way from the dance floor to the toilets and then back to the dancefloor with very willing body squichers - usually from Braz-eeeel (Brazil) and write a note on the wall to your ex-lover in the toilets and pretty much throughout the whole bar, on the walls, on the furniture... everywhere. Leave your memory here for free. This place will always hold a special place in our hearts, yes it's not posh, it's rather backpackery... but that's how we would like it to stay. Join in the songs with your hearts and hands and sing and dance to the wee hours to an awesome DJ with various glow in the dark articles through his hair. People have fun here, and that's what being young and travelling the world is supposed to feel like. Footloose and fancy free.

But the layout of the place is even better! It is a basement bar, half of it outside and the other half kind-of-inside. Very spacious, clean and with good selection of beer (albeit mostly mainstream beers, but a lot of them). Very comfortable, with some big TVs and also music. Good people watching too. The food is good, not amazing, but you can't expect amazing in such a central, tourist-y area. I had the wings and they're a solid 8/10, at least. Service was great too. Shout out to Elise behind the bar.

However, like most of the pubs in the CBD, this one does close quite early (though late enough that I was able to slip in here for a drink one night). There is nothing fancy or flash about this pub - expect the standard beers on tap - no craft beers. It also has a pokies area and a bistro, though there is a pool table tucked away in one corner. The beer garden is pretty cool as well, but unfortunately for the smokers it is not the designated smoking area. During the day it does get fairly crowded (though I have never noticed anybody out in the beer garden, despite it being a pretty nice day), but it was fairly quiet when I was there.

But sometimes it's good to get reckless and a bit silly over some beers and some really, really terrible love music. Irish Murphy's doesn't necessarily have bad music (I'm also a sucker for an accent, especially Irish) but they certainly have the collective crowd keen on getting drunk and roaring along to an inaudible and stereotypically perfect karaoke song. Maybe it's the fact that Irish Murphy's adopts an appearance actually like an Irish pub, but I can't help but have a little fondness for it. I have to search for the fondness a little but believe me, it's there. It's just an ideal place to gather around a table and sling back a few casual (or not so casual) beers and get a little messy and fun. And when you've had a few, who can't join in with the crooning and tuning of the blokes on stage? The beer's fairly cheap, the company's not half bad, and the entertainment isn't sot stale either. I'm not trying to sound begrudging here, because like I said, I do have a soft spot for Irish Murphy's. I just like to be with a larger group of people and get a little silly in the name of fun. If you're after slurry banter and Irish accents, Irish Murphy's is the place to be.
