BEWARE!!! In 2026, I received my FIRST mailed notice regarding an alleged unpaid balance for services provided in 2022--about 4 YEARS AFTER the date of service. The letter stated that this was a final notice and that my account would be sent to collections if payment was not made. I contacted the business to ask why I was only being notified four years later. Instead of receiving a clear explanation, I was met with an unprofessional attitude and was NOT given a satisfactory answer. During the phone call, the representative acknowledged that the office's billing notification system was outdated. They stated that past-due notices had ONLY been sent through automated 3rd-party text messages rather than directly from the business. The representative also stated that the office KNEW MANY customers believed these text messages were SCAMS and ignored them because they did not come from the business itself. The business only recently updated its system to begin sending paper notices YEARS AFTER THE FACT. I believe this is an unfair billing practice. If the business knew its notification system was ineffective and that customers were disregarding the messages as potential scams, it should have taken reasonable steps to notify patients through more reliable methods instead of allowing accounts to remain unresolved for years. As a result, my first mailed notification arrived 4 years after the alleged balance was incurred, and it was already labeled as a FINAL NOTICE WITH the THREAT of COLLECTIONS. I am writing this COMPLAINT because I believe the business FAILED to provide timely and effective notice of the alleged balance before attempting collection. I also encourage anyone in a similar situation whose credit is in danger of being impacted to review their payment records and confirm with their credit card company whether the balance was previously paid. Do your own research because this experience has left me with little confidence in how patient accounts are managed. read more

Bedside manner is okay but gave wrong professional advice that delayed my treatment for a long time. I visited her when I was 18. She said strabismus surgery would be dangerous for me. Funny thing is she changed her tune when her son graduated medical school and can perform surgery. Another university-associated ophthalmologist was shocked to hear what she told me and told me this surgery is very safe since a long time ago. The second doctor performed the surgery for me when I was 30 years old. Medical practice did not evolve in between the 12 years, I have a coworker that was older than me and had strabismus surgery earlier. read more

I was a patient of Dr. Chia for 2 years now. She was recommended by a friend. My initial visit was average at best, but the service I received during my second visit was horrific. I advise current/new patients to stay away! Back in September 2024, I visited Dr. Chia's office for an annual checkup. At check-in, a staff member mentioned there would be a co-pay for the visit, but insurance would cover an annual supply of contacts because they are deemed necessary in my case. The staff ordered the contacts and I received the boxes within 3 weeks. Six months later, I received a bill from the office for $800 for the contacts. I called the office to inquire. The staff member, Tiffany, admitted the office had misinformed me and to my dismay, needed to pay the bill. I refused payment, explaining that I wouldn't have ordered the contacts, if I had known it wasn't covered by insurance. The management's mistake isn't mine to pay! Tiffany responded that I had to return the contacts, opened and unopened boxes if I refuse payment. I agreed but she would have to pick the contacts up herself. Tiffany proceeded with sending a messenger, Martha Cruz, to come pick up my opened boxes of contacts from my home. I come from a household of health care practitioners. Opened prescription health care products can not be returned due to health and safety concerns. Obviously Dr. Chia is not concerned about the health and safety of other patients because they will gladly re-use opened boxes of contacts that's been sitting in my house for 6 months. Needless to say, I will NOT be returning to the office and advise current and potential customers to find a new optometrist. read more

I've been a patient for a few years now. After my experience today, I will be looking for a new office for my eye care. I spent 1.25 hours in the office and only 7 mins were spent with the doctor. Most of my time was wasted waiting because the front desk made a mistake (which is ok), then tried to cover for it and never made a simple apology (not ok). Customer service 101- apologize for your mistake, if you had, I'd be back next year instead of searching out a new office. The office has always been busy and I don't mind waiting as long as I'm seen in the order of appointment time, which was always the case the past few years. Not today. I arrived for my appointment 15 mins early, checked in, and was asked to take a seat in the waiting room. I waited. People arriving after me were taken back. I thought maybe for the other doctor in the office. Then I overheard someone checking in for an appt with my doctor and they were taken back immediately. So I went to the front desk to ask the status. They asked who I was and what time my appointment was. After I told them, they realized that they never moved my file into the "checked in" pile. Both women at the front desk realized it and instead of apologizing, said "oh, you are next", as if I didn't realize they made a mistake and were trying to cover for it. I waited another 10 mins and the tech took me to run the standard tests. Then another 10 mins in the room waiting for the doctor. By this time, I had been in the office for over 1hr 15 mins. Dr Chia came in, spent maybe 7 mins with me, then I checked out at front desk. Still no apology from the front desk. After getting home, I decided that the care I received was fine but I'm not willing to go back to an office that couldn't apologize for a mistake, but instead tried to cover for it. This was also during COVID where they are supposed to be moving people through their office so not to increase someone's exposure. I've only ever posted one other negative review. Both because of poor customer service practices unfortunately. read more

I don't know what's so special about this place. I only come here because it's close to my work and too lazy to fight the traffic up the 5 fwy to go to Buena Park where my optometrist is. I have seen both Dr. Chia's (Li Li - the mother, and David - the son) and they are just average, though on the apathetic side. One thing that separates this place from others however, is the WAIT TIME. Even if you have an appointment and arrive few minutes early to check in, expect to wait AT LEAST 30 (if you are lucky), more like 45 minutes before one of the Chia's graces you with his/her presence. Do note you will get about 5 minutes with thee doctor before he/she pleasantly smiles at you and bid you a good day. The doctor will already be gone before you know it! If you wear contacts and are there for the annual check up, bring your own contact lens case when you have to take the contacts off during exam. Otherwise you will have to use the one in the exam room, which is NOT NEW, and used by many patients before you and not sanitized in any way. Ewwww! Perhaps people in Irvine are used to waiting. Maybe the longer the wait, the better the doctor must be? Maybe they don't mind sharing contact lens case with other patients. It doesn't matter how pretty or "Irvine-ish" this office is, if they overbook, the doctor is just rushing patients out, and have me use an old and used contact lens case, it doesn't deserve any more than one star. read more

My favourite optometrist EVER. I have to preface by saying that I hate going to the doctor's. I also fear going... I know I'm healthy, but you never know. Anyway, my eyes are bad as they can get at my age. It's sad. But, it's been stabilizing, I suppose. On to Li-Li. She is the sweetest optometrist ever. She is great at making conversations, gives great tips on keeping your eyes healthy (make sure you have Omega-3 everyday!), and is really quick. I swear, my appointment (not counting the slight wait) was only 15 minutes. Good for somebody like me who just wants to get out of the doctor's as quick as I can. One last thing that I love is that when Li-Li writes your prescription, she likes to give you choices on different brands. That way, you're not stuck with having to order one brand. I feel like at other optometrist's, I'm usually forced to use the brand that they prescribe, even though I'm fine with the cheaper brand (it's not affecting my eyes or anything like that). read more

The front office staff is friendly and helpful. Also the office is very clean and orderly in a very "Irvine-esque" manner. I had a 10 am appt today, and showed up at around 9:50 am with my new patient forms filled out (per the recommendation of the staff when I booked my appointment). I continued to wait for 1/2 an hour, until 10:20. Then the technician brought me back and did the 2-3 minute machine operated tests and had me wait in the exam room. I hung out there for another 15-20 minutes. Dr. Li-Li finally arrived at 10:40 am. I told her I was disappointed in her lack of punctuality, and she appologized. From here, she did the routine exam, and gave me some sample contact lenses. She recommended that I use the daily lenses for 9 days as they are the same material as the 2 week or 30 day versions. I'm not sure how I feel about this, but I'm not going to do it. I'm sure Dr. Li-Li may be helpful to some people, but I won't be wasting any more of my time here. read more

Dr Li-Li is my favorite. Apparently, other people agree with this, as the place is always packed and you have to book at least a couple weeks out. She is very smart and will gives great advice about how to take care of your eyes, and is good with both grown ups and little ones. She does talk fast, which I think is just her personality, there is a lot of information in there trying to get out during our brief appointment. We also like the way she prescribes the lenses, compared to others she is a bit more careful not to over-correct your vision, which I think is better for the eyes in the long run. read more

They also have some pretty fancy machines that cover your eyecare needs. All the staff in the office are patient, professional and friendly. That is rare for a doctors office. Usually you would encounter one or two that are grumpy and u happy at their jobs. This tells me that the doctors treat them right and it reflects right back at the customer service level. I came in for a new patient visit and it was a great experience. My exam was thorough by the doctors and I asked many questions which they were not hesitate to answer. The brunette in the front desk was great with cofirming my insurances and Francesca in glass fitting is gifted! I'm the type where I never find frames that I like and she found me both sun glasses and eye glasses in 15 mins. Something that I struggled with for a decade and for the first time I felt confident with wearing glasses. Overall, I highly recommend it if you need to find an optometrist. read more

It was an odd first office visit. The staff are not overly warm and welcoming, and Dr. Chia had weird bed-side manners. Considering it was my first visit, I had expected an initial greeting or introduction or SOMETHING when Dr. Chia walked into the exam room. But the first thing she said to me was "So your vision is 20/20 with contacts...". There was no "Hi, how are you I'm Dr. Chia" etc, etc. I had a few questions I wanted to ask her, and when I posed those questions to her, she came across as dismissive. She didn't really answer my questions, but would go off on a tangent. I didn't really feel like I had her undivided attention with my concerns... more like she was just trying to get through the motions to move on to the next patient. Dr. Li-Li Chia is the best ophthalmologist I've ever been to. This is what I like about her: (1) When I asked her opinion about having Lasik surgery on my eyes, she said she doesn't believe in performing surgery on healthy eyes, and eyes continue to change after such surgery so after a few years problems may develop; (2) She explains everything in detail and answers all questions; (3) My cataracts are growing slowly and she is leaving it up to me to decide when to have them removed (when I do I will have her son perform the surgery); and (4) Her office has state of the art equipment. read more

Dr Li-Li Chia seems to need to update her medical knowledge. I went there for dry eyes. She checked my vision, did not even look into under my eye lids, and told me just take fish oils and use artificial tears. My dry eyes got worse; thus I visited another ophthalmologist who checked my eyes in every aspect, tested my tears, and told me that my dry eyes were due to allergy. Now with anti-histamine eye drops, my dry eyes are getting better. read more

Very disappointed in the complete lack of any attention or interest in a new patient by the female doctor. She didn't even introduce herself! Her English is almost impossible to understand, and the whole appointment took under 5 minutes even though I had to wait almost an hour in the waiting room. I met Dr. Li-Li Chia today and I was so pleasantly surprised, especially after reading these reviews. Everyone was extremely warm and welcoming (even as I was a few minutes late) and I was seen within 10-15 minutes of giving in my new patient paperwork. The consult itself was straightforward and time-efficient. Dr. Chia has kind of a maternal vibe going on which I loved. She answered all of my questions thoroughly. There were a couple times when I indicated that I needed clarification, and she repeated what she had said very kindly and respectfully. Will definitely be coming back to see her again! read more

Dr. Chia and his staff are amazing! In a world of hurry-ups and little personalized service; they do not conform. Everyone I came in contact with was friendly and informative. The office was clean and comfortable. I hadn't been for an exam in a few years and was a bit nervous of what the results may render. However, Dr. Chia had a great manner about him as well as a good sense of humor and made me feel comfortable about the exam. Jeorgette helped me pick out my glasses and was very patient as I tried on many pairs and consulted her for her opinion. I ended up buying two pairs because of her. I'm an extremely busy company owner who doesn't take time to write reviews, but in this case I was compelled to write one and acknowledge Dr. Chia and his staff. The doctors and staff are top notch. However, their newer system requires much more waiting than it has in years past. I got there 10 minutes early for my appt and ended up leaving 1 1/2 hours later. That's with 6-8 minutes of actual doctor face time. The majority of your time is spent waiting. read more
