After talking with multiple contractors and receiving bids, or should I say, guess estimates, all varying from low, mid range to high, we were eventually introduced to George Raffenspeger, owner of Taylor Custom Homes. He and his lead manager and master carpenter, Chad, were an excellent team. They organized reliable subcontractors, all professionals in their craft. I can easily imagine the nightmare we would have experienced without George. We paid him to give us a DETAILED estimate. Requiring time on George's end, if we used him, the money for the estimate would and was applied to the project. He was spot on accurate. George directed us to suppliers which saved us significant amounts of money without compromising our design choices. (FYI: Markup at many kitchen and bath designer showrooms is HUGE!) He also provided alternatives which other contractors never brought to the table. For example, we wanted a new contemporary stair railing. He suggested, Joan of Arc, a fabricator in Longmont. Also, he suggested Windsor Windows, a Colorado company which we had no knowledge of until George gave us the opportunity to compare their quality and price with other window companies. Had we found George at the start of our project, my husband and I would have saved a great deal of time and money. Choosing Taylor Custom Homes we received the best in options and craftsmanship. Our Windsor Windows are beautiful and energy efficient. Chad's trim work, and carpentry, superb. I want to add we had a budget. Our house has 6 panel fir doors, all original. One contractor said painting our doors would be too costly and we should purchase all new MDF. Not true. Our painter, Gary, sanded and painted ALL of our fir doors. We changed out the old hardware and the cost was equal to purchasing MDF doors. Save yourself time and a lot of unexpected surprises and expense. Taylor Custom Homes does not have a website but has been in business for over 30 years. I phoned previous Taylor Custom Homes customers from the company's reference list and their accolades were the same. Sooooo, here's consistency and tremendous customer satisfaction.

On closing day all the issues pilled in. We signed our closing documents while items were being fixed. So my biggest gripe is the hassle if getting things done first couple of months. It's a fight for everything. We still have a damage garage, roof, gutter since we moved in not fixed. The dish washer Lennar selected for our house steams right into the granite and drips on the floor. Our entire kitchen floor has water damage. Their (Lennar)solution is to put a mat or a bucket below when running the dishwasher. All the closets were not anchored down. One master closet already came down. Brad nails holding it down.

It surprises me to see negative reviews because I haven't had a single complaint my entire time here. The whole community is quiet and peaceful, I'm a single mom and I've always felt nothing but safe here. We take walks in the evening and it's absolutely gorgeous. I've had multiple neighbors now and never had a complaint against any of them, they've all been friendly, quiet and respectful. The office staff has been nothing but helpful and super friendly, even helping me find the best solution to end my lease. The entire complex is so well kept. The landscaping is always done and in the winter the sidewalks are iced and parking lots plowed. I've honestly never even had to place a maintenance call in the two years I've lived here and when the lights outside the apartment building were out due to hail the guys fixed them within 24 hours, same thing when we had a wasp nest in the stair well. I didn't receive anything for writing this review, I have just been so impressed that I really hope it helps someone out looking for a wonderful place to live. I highly recommend living here, it's more on the expensive side but so worth it to have almost brand new everything, amazing neighbors and really well kept place to live. He played on our sympathies with his hard luck stories about his adult children and continually asked for more money until his draw was exhausted and then tried to hold us hostage demanding $1000 per week until the house was finished. It was gutted at this point with skylights holes cut in the ceilings, trash all over the yard (it cost us $800 to have a reputable contractor remove it). He did do some decent framing, however some of it wasn't to code, but perhaps he had been out of the construction business so long he doesn't know code anymore. He didn't have any reviews on Angie's list or Yelp negative or positive. I am posting this so other people don't fall victim to him. I have to say he proved every negative thing I have ever thought about contractors and worse. The bottom line was he was the wrong guy to hire. Our remodel is now going to cost double. Do yourself a favor if you bump into this guy and RUN as far and as fast as you can the opposite direction.
