After Nancy confirmed my appointment she harshly said, "and don't be late otherwise I won't be able to see you until 1:30 ". Her comment stunned me because I had not been late in many months. Over the years I thought Nancy did not like me because no matter how much I said hello, tried to make conversation and gave good tips she was very serious, hardly acknowledged me when I came in she never wished me a nice day or thanked me for a tip. She shows no basic customer service in politeness. I tried to give her the benefit of the doubt because I did like how my nails were done, but yesterday I read through other reviews where others were treated rudely by Nancy. Other customers also said Smile Nail employees would call them if they are even 1 minute late for their appointment threatening to give their appointment away. I had the same experience. Then I would walk in the salon and no one would even be there, they weren't even that busy. Frankly, those phone calls made me feel a bit harassed but I let it slide and tried to remain a loyal customer. Other times if I asked for my mani pedi to be done separate, Nancy would get upset and say, " I'already told you before, you have to request that ahead of time, as if its my fault for not keeping track of all her rules. " It's rude and I don't need to be chastised like a child, especially in front of other customers. I pay too much money and give nice tips to be treated so harshly. They are losing workers and recently I have noticed they only have one other guy still working with them. Lin is friendly and gives good pedicures. She recently complained to me that no one wants to work for them. Perhaps if they created a kinder environment others would want to continue working there. I ended up calling back a couple hours later and just cancelling my appointment. I will no longer be going to Smile Nails or recommending them. I hope they stop and read these comments and work harder on their attitude.

However, this has changed a lot since a couple of weeks! They renovated and there is new staff. The lady in charge is very talented and listen to your need. I am a though customer.... I want my nails PERFECT and I'm not shy to complain. Since they have made all those changes, I cannot find anything to complain about when she does my nails. She is very good at it. My nail tech Haley is amazing! I absolutely love how she works. She was careful, paid attention to details, and is very knowledgeable with her work. She asks if you like her work through each step of the way and wants for you to be happy with the end result. I would definitely recommend her if Mandy is not available. The place is always clean and I notice the nail tech cleans and sanitizes their tools before they use it on different clients.

Canvas is literally a 3 min walk from my apartment and yet I have never been. Allure nails is my go to place, but on a day consisting of torrential down pour I was down to try a place with more proximity! Canvas is a cute boutique hair and nail salon, located on 4th ave across from Kitsilano Wine cellar. Very friendly staff, both the counter staff (Julian) and the lovely Tao, who worked diligently on my toes. I must say, not many places have employees who will introduce themselves, learn you name and make an effort to chat. I found Tao to be incredibly welcoming, very polite and just sweet in general! Canvas is very clean and modern with cozy massage chairs for you to relax in while your get your pedicure. The massage chairs were adorned with soft fluffy white pillows and oddly a paper slip, which I assume is for cleanliness/hygiene. I didn't really care for the paper cover on the chair because when you use the massage option all you here is "crinkle crinkle" lol. Oh, and move the pillow or you can't feel the massage very well. They have a stereo system installed with clear sound at a comfortable level playing relaxing music and there is also a 42 inch tv. I believe there was also wifi available and they offered me complimentary tea or water. My gel pedicure with removal of previous gel, with taxes and without tip was $55. It's was a little more expensive that what I pay at my usual place and it did not come with a hot stone massage. Time and care was definitely provided for my feet and toes, and I loved the end result. For a convenient nail salon with 5 star staff I would recommend Canvas for some toe love!!

I came for a pedicure (no polish) as I have neglected my feet for a while and I need to focus to get my feet to healthy state. It was great chatting with Nageen. Location is along Main Street with ample parking space around and also a bus stop on the corner - very accessible. Interior is pretty and welcoming and most of all, it doesn't smell like the strong fumes of nail polish. Meeting Nageen for the first time was like meeting a new friend - very personable and friendly. Her concept of "Me Time" really appealed to me and I'm glad that she opened up a place like this -- a relaxing and quiet place to get pampered. I got the gel mani and regular pedi combo. This is the first time I have ever been to a salon and looked worse when I left…read more I went in for a root touch up. I went in with lovely streaked blonde hair that showed some roots. I asked for foil but realized that I was not getting foils but rather a color match of my roots to the hair. I assumed that it would look ok. My hair looked so terrible after the dye job - it was orange and a grey white color. I simply could not walk out of there looking like that so said perhaps colour it light brown. I was assured that the orange would disappear. It didn't - my roots still had an orange tinge and to top it off the brown had a green tinge. I'm so darn polite. When I was asked about the cut I said just a trim of the edges, max an inch. I did not want him doing anything more as it seemed that he did more harm than good. I could see major chopping going on and decided to just call it quits. No blow dry..cut my losses. I went to another salon to try and repair the damage. The cut was so bad that one side was a full inch shorter than the other. They confirmed that the roots were orange and that the brown had a green tinge and that the cut was so bad that it needed to be redone to even out the differences in length. The repairing salon said there was so much damage I had to let my hair sit 10 days. I had a cut though and ended up with hair that was six inches shorter than I went in with oil order to get things evened off. I will never ever go back to this salon or ever go to Edison. While the salon owner did not cause any of the damage...the attitude that she was not interested in my concerns is disappointing, It is her business and such a horrific job reflects on her. She should have been respectful and listened. My advice to Addison was that he needs training. We go to a salon for expertise and in my mind, there was no expertise involved at all.

I was going to a "treat yourself" dinner at an upscale place in downtown and desperately needed my nails done. I booked my appointment online and the booking process was such a breeze. My mani was done by Muna and she was such a sweetheart. My mani ended up lasting over a month! I use my hands a lot for work and school so I expected some of the gel to chip eventually, but my mani was flawless. I appreciate Muna's attention to detail in prepping and shaping my nails; I think the prep is what allowed my nails to last so long. Really happy with how nails came out! The salon is clean, bright, efficient, and airy. I'd def come back again when I'm in the area!
