I got to discover this super sweet bar at the heart of the activist maker hub Bâtiment 7 yesterday and I totally fell in love. This spectacular massive old industrial building was fought out of the clutches of a developer who wanted to build a casino in the middle of one of Montréal's least served and lowest income neighbourhoods and is slowly evolving into wild and diverse hub of deliciousness and independence. There is a shop where you can learn to fix your car, a potter studio, a popular co-op grocery in the midst of what had been a true food desert, a lovely event space and plans for so much more. And the brew pub, with its super delicious beers and easy casual bites draws people in and helps fund the entire operation. A true publican house.
We tried the IPA, the rye, the stout and all were clean and bright, not trying to be too bizarre, just great solid easy drinking beers.
We were there with the kiddo and she found toy trucks and trains, sat with us in a proper high chair and chatted away and we always felt like she was a welcome part of the action in this kind and welcoming space. She and I even shared a squash and apple soup and it was delicious.
I'm a huge fan of the ethics and soul of this place and the libations were delicious and the service excellent. What more do I need on a rainy afternoon, or in life really? Super thankful to have made this discovery. read more
