The first time I hired Le's Golden Floor was probably 20 years ago when I opened a small preschool in a 1913 craftsman style home. They sanded and refinished the original floors to their former glory. Flash forward and I needed the floors refinished in my home last year. Also a home with 100 year old floors. We hired Robert's team of family twice, once for our primary residence sale and immediatly after for our new home. We needed existing hardwood floors refinished and they did an amazing job on both fronts! Robert provided accurate and affordable quotes for both jobs and was on time or early to finish each one. He is extremely personable and easy to work with! He went above and beyond to ensure we were completely satisfied with the end results. His crew even found some damaged sub flooring and asked if we wanted it replaced (we did!). They also noticed the transition strips at our new house were plastic laminate and asked if we wanted them replaced with real wood (we did!). He found and replaced two stained areas, provided an extra can of wood stain for the mantle and even touched up an area my daughter accidentally stepped on for no extra charge! He stopped by to obtain payment, check the outcome and even gave us a hardwood floor mop as a gift! He said it's his mom's favorite mop. His father started the business back in the early 80s so Robert has been doing this his whole life! My only advice if you are refinishing old hardwood is to replace any wood with black discolorations as they will not change during the refinishing process. What a liar! He gave me a quote. He said he put me on his schedule for Tuesday. I called a week in advance to reassure him that I would be ready on the date we set and he acted like it didn't happen. But, he said, he'd come out anyway and look at it again. When he was here the first time, he went over the whole job with me and answered all my questions. I was really impressed since most guys don't seem to think I want understand anything in detail. He explained how sanding the stair risers is expensive because it's difficult so he broke down the quote with and without the risers. This sounds like someone who's willing to do the job, right? Today he arrived at 7:55am and I was in the bathroom. I called out that I would be there in a minute. He kept ringing the doorbell over and over again without giving me any chance to get there. And I kept calling out, over and over every time he rang. Once I did manage to get there, he was already back in his truck about to drive away! He saw saw me waving and came back. He admitted that he'd heard me calling out to him but said he didn't know it was for him. "I'll be there in a minute" in direct response every single time he rang doorbell is confusing? He also decided he wasn't going to do the job. He didn't look at it again as promised. He just stood there at the bottom of my staircase and decided that because I was out of breath because he jammed me up, he wasn't going to do the job! What an impatient, obnoxious liar. I even moved my car so he had a safe place to park since it was street sweeping day. I hate contractors like this. read more

My family was very displeased with the service that we received from Le's Golden Floor. He did complete the job very quickly and had a fair price, but he made promises that didn't keep. He promised that we would be happy and to come back fix floors if we weren't. After the job was completed we were unsatisfied with the gaps and holes in the floors and he came back but never did anymore work. He thought we were "tricking" him and wasting his time. We ended up using another company to repair the floors which cost about $800 Money seems to be his bottom line and not customer service. read more

I was also EXTREMELY dissatisfied with Le's Golden Floor's work. He (Andy Le)was very nice during the estimate. I was refinishing an old sub-floor, which he was confident that he could make look beautiful, with some patching etc. During the process, he was never on site, and never called to give me a progress report, and took a week longer than he stated to do the work. The guys on his crew were primarily family members, and though very nice and polite, not well trained. When the job was "done" there were large gaps and holes that were not patched. Some of the patching was not color matched, some of the reducers were missing, and the ones installed were of a completely different color of wood, and the putty used for patching the holes that were patched was nearly wight- on red-ish brown floors- and he wanted $400.00 extra fro the patching. I gave him the $400 extra and I had him fill the holes, and patch the most horrible spots, and stain the reducers to a closer match, stain the putty filler to a closer match, and then he was supposed to put a coat of poly on the patches, then do another coat on the entire floor. This was supposed to take 3 more days. They did an OK job on the staining and patching, but it ook twice as long as expected, and the did not coat the patches (so there would be 2 coats on those spots in the end) and then just did one coat of poly over all- instead of what we agreed on. To top it off, when they finished the final poly coat, one of his workers took off their shoes and walked through the house from the kitchen (which was not being done and had a rear exit off it to wich they had keys) through the dining room, down the front hall and out the front door, leaving grity foot prints in the poly. He then had the gall to tell me that they had done the touch-up coat, and that his worker hadn't walked through the house (even with the footprints as proof) and wanted more money for the repairs to his horrible job. I know exactly what was done, because I went to the house every day during the work, though I doubt Andy ever did. This was a sub floor being refinished, and I was prepared for it to have a rustic look, but what Le's Golden Floors did was much not acceptable- along with everything described above, there are sander marks from the rotary sander, and the corners were not properly scraped so there are layers of white and gray old paint in the corners and on the edges. They also tore up some of the base boards and phone lines while working. I would hate to see what they would do to new flooring! Andy and his crew placed gorgeous redwood hardwood floors a year ago, Comcast decided to drill holes into the brand new floors so basically i had gorgeous floors for two weeks. Fast forward to the present, I have been in a tug a war...well actually" she will soon forget, so ignore her", fight with Comcast about fixing my floors and making them to the beautiful floors that I had for two weeks. I called Robert on Friday we made an appt for 11 so he would be here at the same time as Comcast, well Robert was here at 10:55 am Comcast was here at 1pm. I am grateful for not having read the reviews of Le's Golden Floor before having my floors refinished. I have had a wonderful experience with Andy and his crew. After closing escrow, my amazing agent recommended two companies, Le's being on of the two. Andy Le was early to our appointment (a plus in my book) and is incredibly gracious and sincere. His quote was more than reasonable, and Andy recommended I have two "stains" patched as they were in very noticeable rooms in the house, the dining and living room. I really wanted the floors done before moving belongings into the home. The hardwood floors had been covered for years with carpet, and were in desperate need of refinishing/polishing. Andy and his team were so accommodating. I phoned him late as I was out of town prior to our appointment (okay, I am a bit of a procrastinator). Andy assured me that he would try to get his team out to work on my floors two days earlier than the previous time frame. This was a boon as I had given 30 days notice, and needed to be out of the cottage within two weeks. Fast forward...Andy phoned to give the green light that the floors were complete and I was able to move in with plenty of time to spare. The floors are beautiful! I have had more compliments on them and they have given new life to my darling home. The "stained" areas are gone, and there is no notice that the wood was replaced in those areas. Top notch work! I had Andy's crew come in to sand and re-finish my 1920's house with original wood floors. The floors look great, work was completed very quickly, on budget, and exceeded my expectations as they refinished the floors perfectly as well as adding trim which never existed in the first place. My floors had been badly stained in a few places and you can still see some very minor discoloration which I was warned about ahead of time. He gave us a detailed estimate promptly and was super responsive every time we reached out to him. We asked him to come back a second time to look at our floors as we were able to pull up carpet and he happily came by to take a look and give us an updated quote. He also gave us advice on what we should do as he was aware that we were on a budget. Robert and his team did a phenomenal job on our floors. It looks amaaaazzziiinnng! They repaired part of the floor that wasn't originally in the quote without any issue. The picture below used to have a trap door that just stood out. They fixed it to make it look seamless with the rest of the floor and you can't even tell. With a lot of work to be done to make my new place liveable, I didn't really get due diligence done with the floor refinishing. My agent got an estimate from Andy Le, and I just accepted it on the agent's recommendation with no competitive estimates. Dumb, I know, but I had other more pressing things to worry about. Balancing different trades and their various delays kept pushing out the floor appointment; Andy was accommodating. Finally Andy's crew showed up at the rescheduled time, and there was no power in the house; Andy was accommodating. Then they showed up, and it turns out, unbeknownst to even my electrician (who hadn't gotten that far), that there had never been 220V to the property (the floor crew's big drum sanders take 220V); Andy was accommodating. Finally, with two generators in tow, the crew laid into a floor that looked worse than the pavement on Telegraph (at least before they redid that part through Temescal): 3/8" oak in most of the house and wider, 3/4' douglas fir in the kitchen with deep filth ground into the traffic paths, no thresholds, huge craters gouged out here and there, and mysterious scratches that appeared after the house was under contract (curse you, stagers!). Fifty pounds of saw dust later, the results are nothing short of devil magic: pristine, sparkling floors, with every single damaged board and threshold replaced. I chose not to stain the wood (and got no pressure to do so, although it was an up-charge on the estimate), so the oak is a beautiful honey color. The fir cleaned up especially well, although the crew decided some rather large, strangely colored fills were preferable to replacing the 100-year-old fir with new, yellow boards. I can live with that. When he reconciled the bill with me, Andy honored his estimate with no extras (I actually expected to pay a little more for the repairs, which weren't explicit on the original quote, but he didn't ask), and he insisted on splitting the modest cost of the generators with me even though I offered to pay for them myself. Delays? Not a moment. In fact, they were supposed to start at 8:00 a.m. on a particular day. They were on the property half an hour early, and their equipment fired up at eight o'clock on the dot. These floors made it 100 years before being refinished, and so, with luck, I won't need another floor refinished for quite some time. But if I did, I would choose Le's Golden Floor without hesitation. read more

Yeah, so I guess I should have looked on Yelp before going with Le's Golden Floor. I had a very similar experience to the other two reviews here. At our first meeting Andy made a great impression. He was friendly, straightforward and pointed out all of the little things that would get fixed in addition to the big ticket items. Unfortunately, none of it made it into writing when he handed me the job proposal. And it came back to haunt me later. When I asked him to finish the job as per our conversation, he instead referred me to what was written in the proposal. Even though I had some considerably lower estimates, I went with Andy because I liked him, and he seemed to be the most professional and thorough. I don't mind spending a little extra for a job done well, but in this case I feel I didn't get my money's worth. In fact two other general contractors looked at the "finished" job and agreed that it was sub-par and over-priced. Their advice? Don't pay him. (Too late!) My advice to you? The old Berkeley brown shingle built in 1908 has Douglas fir flooring on the upper story. They'd only been refinished perhaps once, and needed to be refinished and a few boards replaced. The crew worked hard (and happily); didn't sand the floors to oblivion; explained perfectly what to expect in terms of how the color would be lighter from the refinishing; were very clear about containing our pets; vacuumed all over-run of dust in the house...and the price for the two bedrooms and hallway was very reasonable.
