I have been getting Goodfood for quite a while now. I…read moresuppose I'm partially to blame for not really paying closer attention to these things. When I Google it they do say they source from the US seasonally, but it's the middle of summer. I'm not sure why this is happening but I'm very unhappy about it!

I was a Goodfood customer for many years - through a partner's account from way back in 2015, and…read morethrough my own account since around 2019. So I have a lot of experience with this company and have been a loyal customer. Today I finally made the decision, after multiple past considerations, to cancel my account. Goodfood works on a predatory subscription model. They make it so that you can only skip a few weeks at a time, and if you forget to check back in to skip more weeks, you are stuck with an unwanted, very expensive box. I have complained to their customer service agents a handful of times over the years when I would be charged for a box I didn't want. I always hoped they would eventually prioritize their customers and implement a feature onto their website and app to pause subscriptions indefinitely. After so many years of having unwanted charges and deliveries, I can only conclude this will never happen, and I have no choice but to cancel my account if I want to avoid this situation again. It seems that Goodfood banks on your forgetfulness and doesn't really care if you actually want their product or not - otherwise I see no reason they wouldn't give the option to pause the subscription until you manually place an order again. I guarantee you I would not have canceled my account if this was an option, because I actually do like their recipes and food when I am CONSENTING to the order. Now, after having already budgeted for my meals this week and with a fully stocked fridge, I will have to deal with this surprise $100 charge and a box of unwanted food tomorrow. But, at least I can take solace in the fact that this time, it will be the last time this happens to me. Good riddance, Goodfood.

A little out of the way from everything else had been doing, but wanted to check out this local institution. So glad I did! Did not expect Zytynsky's being in such an unpretentious brick building, but the magic was all inside. The store had an excellent curated selection of Eastern European gourmet items, all clearly presented with pride. Since I was on vacation, my goal was something to eat that day, but did spend some time looking at all the imported goodies. When I arrived, Angel, the extremely friendly woman behind the counter, was dealing with a couple of familiar faces to her. I overheard that she's been at the store for about 40 years, but I didn't realize that she was the owner and the founder was her grandfather. At my turn to order, I asked her for some suggestions. Ending up with a Smoked Meat Sandwich and a Polish Ham, Hungarian Salami and Cheese Sandwich. Also grabbed two cans of Ukrainian Zero Alcohol Beer. We chatted a little while she prepared my food, and she was absolutely charming. Able to enjoy both sandwiches upon return to my hotel. While for years been a big fan of Hungarian Salami (which was fantastic) the star on that sandwich was the amazing Polish Ham... maybe the best I've ever had! The sensational Smoked Meat Sandwich was perfect! Look forward to my next visit and thank you Angel for my memorable eats! Appreciate your support of Ukraine, too. Zytynsky's Deli is a remarkable place and recommend you check it out! Slava Ukraini!

As if by answer to my prayers, Crealunch caught my eye, nestled next to Ta Pies - it's a place that does frozen ready meals, created for you to pop in the microwave and eat! I don't eat a lot of meat, so I ordered a fettuccine pasta with a bunch of veggies, but only after talking to the guy behind the counter about how to cook them. I don't have a microwave, so I asked if it could be done in an oven. He said yes! Great! Now, what follows is largely my own fault, but TO BE FAIR I didn't know any better. First off, pasta doesn't really cook too well in the oven, so I put a little bit of water in there to help it along. Secondly, I didn't realise that the plastic container was microwave-safe, but not oven-safe. You may be thinking that I am an idiot. You may be right. Some plastics don't melt in the oven. This one did. My bad! Thirdly, I just wasn't... that... impressed with the dish I'd ordered. Some meals suit being ready meals, and those tend to be ones with cheese or some kind of sauce or gravy, like a mac & cheese, or a shepherd's pie. My pasta did have a sauce, but it was a very light one, and so the end result (partially because of the oven-baking) was dry pasta and soggy vegetables. It also took quite a while to bake (and again, it's meant to be microwaved, so I'll take the blame for this) which meant that I was left quite disappointed. I feel like I would have had more success with a meat dish - they sounded very appetising - but I really was trying not to eat too much meat! All in all, it was a bit of a dud, but partly my fault, so... I hope this helps if you're on the fence? TL;DR: don't get the pasta (unless very saucy), do get a microwave.

Oh my, another ready-to-eat frozen meal place/service...and it doesn't look like the same old jam…read more These type of places have been popping up all over town in recent years, so anytime one stands out it's refreshing. When I saw that they change their menu every Wednesday and have created over 300 dishes, the name Crealunch seemed perfectly fitting. They have a chalkboard with their weekly offerings, and the dishes look very interesting. A twist on the ordinary, for example; a Shepherd's pie using teriyaki pulled pork, and not simple hamburger. Plus even an avocado Tiramisu dessert (too exciting - can that even be done). The main courses range from 7.95-8.95 and are tax exempt, because they are frozen meals - from what I was told. The desserts are in the 3.95ish range and that's not too bad either. Not sure if mousse and meringue are taxable? The photos of the meals look great and they looked pretty good in frozen form at first glance. The gentleman at the counter (one of the owners), was nice enough to explain things, including that they have a loyalty points program. They also have two day a week delivery service (ask for details). He said their website also had nutritional information to boot. Note: My rating is based solely on the menu, marketing and facilities (even deserving of 4.5 or more for the photographs and unique menu) - I have not tried the food yet, but plan to asap.
