We had an enjoyable evening at La Mona Lisa when my 8yr old nephew received a Learning Hero award…read moreat school. We had a selection of pizzas, lasagnas, garlic bread style pizza and desserts. The pizza was some of the best we have had with a thin crispy crust, fresh toppings and plenty of flavor. They will also drizzle or soak it in garlic butter upon request. My nephew suggested we try it soaked in the garlic butter and he was right. It was delicious. The ambience is old style Italian and the service was top notch. Efficient and friendly describes it best. There is plenty of seating upstairs and down but I would still recommend reservations at this little gem as it was packed when we were there. Especially, if you are visiting during busier Times such as summer or TT week. One last note, the owner is a kind, friendly, happy man who does a precious 'magic' for the children at the end of their meal if they eat everything. All around a great experience.

It was good and reasonably priced, but the food was not life changing. Started with very good garlic bread, which was served like a pizza crust with an excellent almost spicy tomato based dipping sauce, strongly recommend. The antipasto was also a nice starter, with many olives (I don't olives but a friend said there texture was too tough), peppers, salami, ham and artichokes. I had chicken parmesan over spaghetti. The chicken was good and the sauce was relatively complex but the chicken was not flattened as I like in many good parms. The restaurant was also very hot, which made it a little less than perfect. Overall, a restaurant I would go back but not overly memorable.

My first trip was for lunch, when I had the eggplant parmagian (they have a fancier name). Great flavor, tender eggplant. Not a huge portion but the right amount for lunch. I also had to try one of the cakes, went with the pistachio, and it was a slight disappointment (actually not a very strong pistachio taste). Brought the family back for dinner two days later and was not disappointed. My starter was great, local scallops (queenies) in a cognac butter sauce. Very tasty. My main was ravioli njuda, which was a chorizo ravioli. Flavors were great, surprised how spicy it was but not a problem. Most of the other meals were very good (pizza and pasta in particular) but what really earns the five stars is the service. Incredibly friendly, really trying to please (and authentic). I love places where they care about what they are doing, are passionate and are just good people. This seems like one of those places.

Run Home! (42,…read moreBroadway, Douglas, Isle of Man, The Rock in The Irish Sea) In case you want to check it out! Empty evening, always a bit of bad sign. Especially, when there's only one kid in a baseball cap. Age, unknown. Maybe the employer's nephew, I guess that's a review for another website and another time. Now let's get into this kicked over kebab of a restaurant. Aesthetics Pizza originally looked like a unwanted teenager. Spotty and dirty (Joking all kids are beautiful). Which may make you wonder, does that mean it tastes delectable? We'll get to that in just a hot second. I ordered the ham & mushroom pizza of a length of ten inches. Cauliflower and a mystery meat. See image. I rest my case. Not really, because my case is covered in slippery cheese which had fallen off my sloppy pizza! Thanks. However, as a man of integrity I put it back on. The two toppings had consisted of a small Snaefell Mountain. Which Snae-fell on the floor again. Grease, always a controversial topic, but must be dealt with. Here's a question what has more oil, my Bentley Continental or my Home Run pizza box. If you said the Bentley you are a competent citizen. Service (uh-oh!) Now you're probably wondering was the service good? Hopefully no surprises in this one. Where is everybody? Little Timmy, looking curious, confused. Hair not washed, shirt not tucked in. I don't really mind. I mind, about asking for a simple two pizzas with a maximum of 4 toppings and receiving a pizza which looks like it has absorbed every disease from the Outback toilets. I, courageously took a bite. Let me come to that later. Timmy's uncle finally had come out of the back from the backstreet from what I guess, smoking a fag. He denied my friend the beef topping, like Henry VII denied his wives futures. With a weird enjoyment. Timmy's uncle went back to the alleyway. Brilliant. He's going to have to learn the ropes quickly young Timmy if he wants to take over this place, or better yet, keep it alive. We shall see. Good luck young squire! Speed Too Slow. Taste. Well, this is going to take a while. Where to begin? Seriously, where do I begin, this pizza looks like a kicked over trifle. Blander than my date with Britney Spears. Just kidding, it wasn't that bland. Date was quite nice as well. A solid 4/10. Anyway back to that interesting taste that remains on my palette for X amount of hours. Cardboard base, dryer than the actual box. Shocker. Onion or pineapple, not too sure, ordered neither as well. But onion and pineapple was actually, also bad. Chicken, an interesting mustard colour; I would hope from the intended spices. For an American 'style' restaurant. Spices. Try and put those two together. Crust. Now things are about to rise aggressively. I get mad just thinking about this. Hang on, let me eat my pizza to remind myself of the pure pain this has put me through to actually write a review about a local pizza take out. Alright, Timmy his your first lesson in catering entrepreneurship. Crusts needs dip and dips need crust. Lesson two, garlic dip is your friend not your foe. Garlic dip = $$$$. Sound of the pizza Don't even get me started. Why was it making sound? It was like chatting to Jar Jar Binks from Star Wars. I shouldn't really have to write about this. But the sound was more apparent than the appearance. My killer romance playlist was being drowned out by my pizza. Mood killer alert if I'm being completely honest. Restaurant interior No chairs. Suppose you don't need chairs if there's never any people. Or if you're not having to wait 17 minutes for your food. Drinks The Fanta and my Coca Cola (no copyright) were actually really tasty so can't complain there at all. Keep up the work on this end! Conclusion Well as you can see. I'm in a bit of a predicament. I'm hungry. Down 21 pounds and 32 pence. And single. Regards, Douglas Potter

I found it a little sweet but it did all the basic well and is probably the best onion soup on the island. My main was a special of the day and definitely the highlight, dover sole grilled in butter and garlic. They had offered to prepare it however I liked but the waitress suggested it in this manner and I loved it. The fish was very tasty and the butter and garlic were great. Had creamed spinach with it that was also very good. For dessert, I had the chocolate mousse. Nice strong flavour and relatively light dessert after three courses. They also had a good, reasonably priced wine list. Finally, found the service quite friendly and French without the bad parts of French.

The french onion soup was excellent. Think about it. It's the 27th of June, i.e. mid summer and in a packed restaurant everyone is eating piping hot soup even as sweat beads are building up on their foreheads. The right amount of cheese to soup ratio. Cheese and onion perfection. We also shared some garlic snails and they were good. I only wish there were more of them! For the main we had the chateaubriand (the tenderloin fillet) and it was good. It was originally served rare when we ordered medium rare but this was quickly corrected. The staff were very attentive and service was good. The chateaubriand came with sides of mushrooms, fires or potatoes, veg and onion rings. We decided to instead order sides from the menu and got creamed spinach ( very good and you should order this! my wife raved about this.) fries ( crispy and salty as they should be) tomato salad ( It was ok but nothing to rave about) mushrooms ( again, ok but not something to go crazy about) and baby potatoes. (surprisingly they didn't charge us extra for changing our sides. Very impressed with this as I expected and was prepared to pay for this.) We wanted to have dessert however I was too stuffed! I will come back again for the soup and to try the creme brûlée. The wine list was also very good. We had the pinot noir and it was nice and generally we felt that the wine was priced very reasonably. Downside is the layout of the restaurant. Its very tight and you should try to get a window if you can ( i asked for this with the reservation but did't get this even though I was promised it.) My wife could barely avoid the guys ass next to us when she stood up! Thank goodness he wasn't one of those silent farters you get on airplanes! The tables are also too low and not wide enough. If you are above 4 foot in height and more than 150 lbs then you need to be aware that this restaurant is not built for seating comfort. Still, will I be back? You bet I will. The food is a 5. Good atmosphere and staff. Just a shame about the seating / table and it being too tightly packed. I will be back for the creme brûlée. It is calling me!
