May 11 specials at Ciao.
Mr Kitty K.

Nice place for a casual dinner of authentic Italian cuisine. You can bring your own wine (as of May 2017). Nice casual vibe, met many locals , good sign!!!

I am so happy that Ciao has opened. It is great Italian food at great prices. ( less than £20 a head for starter and main course each time I have been) The fresh pasta is wonderful ( I recommend the walnut ravioli) The risotto with gorgonzola was perfectly cooked both times I have had this. The rice balls (Aranci) are light and trust me even if you are not a fan of rice this will surprise you!! They make homemade bread for the bruschetta which was an explosion of flavor that as I write is literally making my mouth water!! I have been here 7 times both at lunch and dinner already and highly recommend. I haven't tried any of the British food on the menu but they do have some options. (Personally though why go to an Italian and eat chips!) Its nice also for go for coffee & cake. They make their own cakes ( see photos) The decor is typical of many Italian places in that it is basic. I could care less as the food is the star of the show. The owner, Luca, is very friendly and all the staff from the chefs to waiter are Italian. Point to note: They have no alcohol license so you can bring your own bottle & they don't charge corkage. They have plans to get a license soon.

Wandered about High Street one Saturday morning and didn't really know where to go for a bite and…read morecoffee in Bangor. After seeing quite a few different places we settled on here as it looked quite nice from the outset. So it turns out that on occasion its actually OK to judge a book by its cover. Firstly the staff in here were very nice and welcoming, which is always important when settling in and starting to enjoy a new place. Then the menu was pretty impressive...... all good so far. It was mid morning (as was our next visit) and so we were looking mainly at the breakfast menu. we got the Creme fry each and were not disappointed. It seems like an odd thing to rave about when talking about a fry, but in a fry that was in all aspects well above average, that the mushrooms were one of the stand out features!!!! I think they were done in some kind of salt and chilli combo or something (perhaps not chilli, but something) and were sooooo tasty. The coffee was excellent as well and can be bought separately to take home, so they've clearly done a bit of work getting a decent bean for theirs. There is a wide variety of cakes . muffins and the like that can be bought to have there or to take away and they are excellent. We had some there and they were great. We also bought an olive loaf to take away with us which was one of the best we've had in a while, used it t make some pretty decent sandwiches at home. Certainly will be making a point of going here a good bit more from now on.

Definitely make a reservation ahead of time. We didn't have one, so we were told by the hostess…read morethat we'd get the less desirable seats in the house. We were put in the very rear by the back door, which, when opened, occasionally required us to get up from our seats to let someone in. My pasta was great, the garlic soup was AMAZING (I've never heard of a creamy garlic soup with pesto drizzle before but now I pretty much wake up dreaming about it), and my boyfriend loved his personal pizza. The lattes we got for desert were too huge and watery. Had difficulty finishing them, and they weren't very good. The only thing that has room for improvement, though. The customer service was great (a well-spoken foreign exchange high school student was our waitress), and Leonardo himself initially took our order and stayed a while by our table, talking boisterously and cracking jokes. He was an amusing character. We wanted to come back once more, but time did not permit us to.

Stopped in for Sunday lunch as we were in the area and were very happy. Shared a garlic bread and…read morefried calamari. Calamari was thick with a very nice garlic aioli. Garlic bread also good and garlicky. My son had pizza which he said tied for best (with Mona Lisa) on the island. I loved my main. A tuna steak, and the only place I've been able to get on the island to truly serve it seared and red in the middle. Perfecto.
