My…read moresituation is that I had implants put in that I was not happy with because not only were they bigger than I'd wanted but also a noticeable difference in size between the two. I'd spent about 2 years researching the different surgeons in NYC and was just so confused at who to choose because I really was worried the surgery wouldn't be what I'd wanted and it's a big decision to take lightly. Dr Schaffner was referred to me and from the first visit, I was completely at ease. He explained everything thoroughly (maybe a bit too much but better to over explain things) and showed what went wrong and how it went wrong with my first surgery. He also showed how he could fix it but did explain that it wouldn't be perfect. I had realistic expectations so pretty easy going with moving forward. I wanted to go smaller but he explained that he could do whatever I wanted, but I had to determine if I wanted much smaller or smaller and more full because it would be impossible to do both and I'm glad he told me that upfront instead of all the other surgeons saying "sure" and then not being able to do it because your skin can only do so much. Skipping ahead to day of the surgery: I was really nervous. I basically had 2 surgeons working together (one from another country and dr schaffner who spent a decent amount of time with the game plan of how to best proceed with other physician), along with an awesome anesthesiologist and nurse (who was literally a life saver because she really helped me relax). I'm not sure why I was so scared but next thing I knew, I woke up and felt no pain. Day 3, the bandages are off and I'm so happy with results. I know I am still swollen but I'm already stoked with the results. Side note: he gave me his cell phone before surgery and responded to all my questions right before surgery (over the weekend). He had already answered them but I kind of needed reassurance several times and he never made me feel like I was bothering him or wasting his time.

I was inquiring about getting a breast implant exchange with a possible breast lift. I was looking for someone who prioritizes on safety. Someone referred me to Dr. Adam Schaeffner, they stated that he was triple board certified. I looked him up and booked the consultation. The consultation fee was $250. At first, I was impressed because he answered the contact number after business hours instead of an answering service. He explained to me that I would be receiving a form from him shortly and he would need me to fill this out so that he can get some information about me. Prior to arriving at his office, I received a call from his patient care coordinator Christina, telling me to make sure I pay the consultation fee of $250 or else I will not be seen. I thought that was weird because I am well aware that this fee has to be paid prior to visiting with the surgeon. When I went to see Dr. Schaeffner I thought he was professional at first, he asked me questions regarding my past medical history. He asked that I bring my mammogram during this visit along with my implant product code. I asked numerous questions and I felt like some of his answers did not satisfy my needs. For example, I asked him about the demographics of his patients. This was important to me because I am Carribean American and a lot of doctors assume we want a certain look without really knowing our aesthetic. Also, statistically, research has shown that our requests are often ignored. It was important that I explained the aesthetic that I wanted to achieve. Of course his response was that he finds that a lot of black women want large breasts and large rear ends. His presumptuous statement turned me completely off,I corrected him and informed him that that wasn't the aesthetic that I was looking for. I explained to him that I wanted a more refined waist line where my love handles can be addressed with lipo and I wanted a breast implant exchange with a lift (I'm 5'3 and my measurements was 36-31-44. I weight 165 at the time of my visit.) He then asked my permission to take pictures of my breast. This is where things went sideways, he touched my belly and told me to cough and proceeded to tell me that I have a small diastasis recti and that I needed a tummy tuck in order to tighten my stomach muscles. Keep in mind, I had two prior consultations and was never told this. After I got dressed I asked him the fees for the surgery and I asked him for a quote for this tummy tuck that he suggested. He was stammering and stated that there are numerous fees and because I hadn't exactly decided what I wanted he was unable to give me a quote. So then I asked a direct quote for a breast implant exchange, with a breast lift and a tummy tuck. He then proceeded to tell me to speak with his patient coordinator Christina, and left me in the room with her. When I directed the question to her, she was stammering as well and was hesitant to provide me with the quote. This was a bit weird to me because I've gone on two prior consultations and received a quote. When I asked to speak to Dr. Schaeffer again, all of a sudden he was "unavailable"and when I asked how long will he be unavailable for, I was told he is now on a phone conference. I waited a bit and when I asked Christina again for a quote, I was told that she needed permission first before giving me a price. Since I didn't get the quote like I usually do in person, I asked her to email me the quote. The duration of the consultation was literally 10 minutes....my two previous consults were 30-45 minutes, both surgeons were attentive, they answered all my questions, and I left with an itemized quote. When Christina finally emailed me the quote there was just one lump sum, nothing was itemized which makes me believe that this surgeon customizes prices for his customers. Needless to say, I went on real self and saw his before and afters and was appalled. I'm not sure why I didn't check real self prior to booking my consult, I definitely would not have wasted my time. For one, there was not a big change from the before and afters, I actually think a lot of his patients looked botched. He also did not have a broad demographic of patients. My advice to anyone looking to have plastic surgery...first check out real self and look at the pictures to see if the doctor fits your aesthetics, see if they perform surgery on people of your demographic, go to a doctor that does not rush you out their office to make a quick $250 to cover their rent on 5th Avenue. Always schedule multiple consultations and listen carefully to what these doctors are telling you. Lastly, get a referral from someone who personally got surgery from your doctor.
