Dark, spooky, cozy with the smell of espresso seeping through the walls. If you leave through the back entrance, you're transported back into the dull colorless vibe of the surrounding atrium (no offense to the landlord). Now, for the important part--COFFEE! I ordered the Moon Over Bourbon Street. It tasted slightly artificial but they make most syrups from scratch. I may just have been sensitive to the flavors. But it was really good. Not too sweet. My sister ordered the Dorian Gray latte. Deathly divine. My son had the Palace of Lavinia. He's used to super sweet iced tea so this was extremely mellow, even sweetened. But it was absolutely refreshing. Sadly, we did not try any provisions. Super service. Friendly and helpful. Gave recommendations. Barista had great handwriting. It's all in the death-tails! We are already dying to come back!

Any of the food here is expensive, and a few years ago I considered it worth it because it was good. Now everything gives Sysco, and it's all skimpy. The prices are outrageous for what you get. I've also been disappointed with their espresso recently. The only thing that appears to hold up is their drip. (Pretty sure their merch is AI generated, which unsettled a lot of people)

Full sweetness (agave) was delightful and did not feel overly sweet. Seemed like they use 3 or 4 g of matcha, but not sure (was at least more than 2g). I saw that they recently switched to a new powder so I wanted to try. They claim to be using Rocky's matcha, but I used Rocky's matcha at home and it tastes nothing like this! My double matcha tasted like pure grass and was very gritty. I'm not even sure what made it a double matcha because there was no matcha cream or anything on top. So I paid $8 for a bland grassy cup of milk. Cuptopia PLEASE go back to your old matcha ***Edit because that response from the owner is wild hahaha I guess the customer service isn't that great. I did not make a single rude comment about your shop or anything even remotely close to ruin anyone's reputation. All I said was that the matcha blend has downgraded because it has. Yelp is here to share honest opinions and that was mine. And obviously I don't know what was said or ordered because I WAS NOT THERE. He just dropped it off and made no mention of matcha cream not being available, either way $8 is way too expensive for a matcha this quality. I never once said I want to do a collab with your shop he was probably just trying to support me and my page because I enjoy making content and run a fun little matcha page. I have actually made a video/post in the past expressing how much I enjoyed your shop and matcha and it's still accessible on my page but probably not after this interaction. To be honest, I find a lot of coffee shops to taste the same and repeat a lot of the same drinks. However, Phin Smith has its own signature through-line that makes it unique. I like that all the drinks have a sort of coconut or pandan very Vietnamese and tropical undertone. I have enjoyed all of the offerings here, both coffee and matcha, but especially the Oahu Joe. I can just feel like the whole team puts in so much effort into curating the menu, writing recipes, brewing the coffee, preparing the drinks. The staff are pretty professional and helpful. I really like the location and the space. It is located in historic downtown Garden Grove which has a unique charm that is distinctive or from the rest of city. It is very spacious and a good place to get some work done, study, chat, or just relax. The interior design is Spanish-inspired and rustic which is not the most common or popular coffee shop design style so I really like how distinctive and special it is.
