Lenz Winery was a nice stop in the North Fork. They have a lovely 'farmhouse' setup, with an outdoor area that feels a little more intimate because it's in the center of a few buildings, more like a courtyard than an open lawn. There's also the adjacent vineyard, of course, if you're hoping to stroll among the grapes between glasses. The wines were good! The tasting menus did a nice job of providing variety among different styles, and there were definitely a few standouts among the pours. Lenz also differentiates between their older vintages and some of the more recent bottles -- you'll likely pay a premium for the former, while the latter tends to be a little cheaper. The space itself is a bit cramped overall -- while the courtyard setup is nice, the parking lot is small and there's only one bathroom for the entire grounds. Certainly a good option among the wineries on the North Fork, but consider going at less popular hours to avoid crowding. read more

I came here as part of a wine bus tour. They served us a glass of rose as the first tasting as soon as we walked in. We were seated at outdoor picnic tables. They came around about every 10-15 minutes after that to pour the next two tastings, a red and a white wine. For these, you had the option to choose between two different wines. The pourers provided brief descriptions of each wine. After the tastings, we were able to walk around the vineyards, which were lovely and sunny, though not quite as green and lush as others we visited on the same day. read more

Came to lenz winery after working with them on an event in NYC and LOVING the wines, so we made the trek out to LI in the late fall to visit lenz and see where the magic happens. Staff is friendly and upbeat, lots of seating inside and the wines were as good as I remembered and well worth the drive from the city. You're in for a treat if you order any of the cheeses on the menu too, they're local and they give you a HUGE block of cheese to cut up yourself. We ended up taking half of it home with us! Get the goat cheese and the sparkling wine, SO GOOD. read more

I've lived in NY all my life and this was my first visit to our [locally] famous vineyards just to the east of us. In my early twenties it was especially common to hear about friends renting limos or party buses and doing wine tours through the area. People always reported having a good time, but not once was the quality of the wine mentioned, which I came to understand why after this visit. Arrangements were made ahead of time and my friends and I gathered in a bus that took us from the city straight to the winery. Once we arrived we were greeted with sandwiches, salads, and pours of wine. The options for sandwiches and salads were sorely limited, and the quality matched the sordid options. While I'm not a sommelier, I know enough about wine to know when the wine doesn't taste good, which was the case here. The Long Island wine scene is still nascent, as compared to the more famous Finger Lake region in upstate NY, or the even more famous Sonoma wine country in the West Cost. I'm not sure the terroir supports the growth of the tastiest grapes, but I think it's really fun that they're trying. Of course I can't speak definitively for all the wines in the region but everything I had here wasn't very good. What I will say is that the grounds are gorgeous, with grass and trees as green as Estonian green blur, and live music playing on the weekends. Most of the shaded tables were taken so we made due on a sunny bench, where we snacked on some of the desserts we brought up from the city. It was a nice way to spend an afternoon, and we were dropped off right back where we were picked up in the city at the end of the day. read more

The Lenzy Winery I had a very good experience at this vineyard Inger was our server She was knowledgeable, pleasant She presented each wine with patience and gave us the background of each wine before we tasted. I had the Grand flight Tasting Paired with a delicious Grafton Truffle Cheddar cheese accompanied with Italian sea salt cracker wafers by La Panzanella. Out of the 5 wines tasted my favorite from the lot was the Chardonnay 2015 which costs $30 a bottle. My wife and I spent the day on the North Fork and decided to land here to relax and taste some wine. We have been here [many ties] before and was looking forward to the tasting experience. I am a photographer and as I walked in I took advantage of all the wonderful backgrounds here. All I could think of at that point was photographing either a wedding or engagement photos here. Now, onto the tasting room. We were out at the beginning of May on a Monday, so it was not very busy. That worked out well for us. We purchased a flight to share. Sauvignon Blanc, Old Vine Gewurztraminer, Gold Label Chardonnay, Old Vine Cabernet Sauvignon and Old Vine Merlot. My wife does not drink red so we shared the whites and I finished off the red. We were not surprised that we throughly enjoyed all wines. Not being busy, we had the luxury of just relaxing and tasting. It was a wonderful experience. Lenz has a wonderful staff of knowledgeable people who truly help enhance the tasting experience. Pricing is very fair here. We are both looking forward to our next North Fork experience here read more

Lenz Winery is a nice place to stop and enjoy locally grown and produced North Fork wine. Proudly here 43 years, they are a well established vineyard with a nice variety of reds, whites and sparkling. The people are welcoming, knowledgeable, and give perfect guidance when discussing likes and leanings. Within a few minutes Michael guided me to a Cuvee Sparkling, a good Cab Sav, and two of their coveted Old Vine options.. Merlot and Cab Sav. One word for three of the four. One was good the other were wow. The sparkling rivaled Sparkling Points which few do.. a bit more flavor on this one... the Old Vine Merlot is likely their best creation... it redeemed Merlot's for me.. after sinking hard with my California wine club who seems to have super nice Napa Cabs, but too many Merlots that don't make it. Not here... safe harbor for Merlot.. They explained the strength of Merlots on the east coast, and Cabs on the west. A 2016 Merlot will run about $20... the Old Vines step up to around $55 for Cab Sav and the Old Vine Merlot around $65. They are limited to wine club members. There is a Old Vine Chardonnay... have to try that in warner weather.. so you know what has to be done... sign me up.. Some of the well structured reds will easily age 20 years well. The vibe in here is relaxed and conducive to an enjoyable comfortable tasting experience. Big open room, high beam wooden ceilings, distressed wood tables, with a warm, relaxing vibe. Upstairs I noticed some nice black cushioned chair seating areas for tastings. No one was using the upper room. Looked good so had my eye on it : ). read more

My 1st visit to Lenz Winery & pleasantly surprised. We had a cozy table with Ardirondeck chairs and a perfect umbrella for shade. What's nice about this Vineyard it's not over crowded with bus tours. A Band was playing while we were enjoying our relaxing day. I had the Cabernet Sauvignon which was good. The Rose Wine was perfectly chilled & the Mascot wine was super sweet. Came here with a group as part of an organized wine tour. I've never had ruder service before. When we arrived, we were quickly rushed to our seats, and I will say that the tables were probably 6 feet apart but the place felt a bit cramped and was not that comfortable. Everything about this place seemed super rushed, like they wanted us out of there as soon as possible. When one of my friends asked about a wine saying that he tasted notes of cherry, our server responded with "Sir, there are only grapes in wine." Um, what? RUDE! We then tried to take a picture in an empty area with our masks on and we were scolded for leaving our seats, told that we were not allowed to take pictures anywhere. Guess they didn't want the social media promotion. The wine here wasn't the best, but at least they gave us some chips to wash it down with. Overall, a pretty bad winery and with so many others in the area, wouldn't waste my time here if you can avoid it. read more

Stopped in last week for a tasting. It's one of the older vineyards and we've been wanting to try it. It was quiet when we arrived. I believe only 2 other people there. We sat at the bar area. The waiter brought over menus. We chose 2 flights and some snacks. She brought everything out without any descriptions. That really would have helped. I do know if that's the policy. We attended an event for 90pt wines from all over the North Fork and had a great time. They were very accommodating when we called to add two to our party the night before - they didn't have enough wine to add more to our special tasting, but allowed us to add to the table and order other things for them. During COVID there are time slots for how long you can stay, but at the end of our slot when there were still free tables they allowed us to stay. We had a non-wine drinker with us who enjoyed trying local craft beer. We had a beautiful spot shaded by a canopy of vines, and on this particular Sunday they had live music of a violin with an acoustic guitar. The only thing I would change would be to see the vines from the tasting area, but it's still quite nice. The staff HUSTLES, that's for sure! read more

The North Fork wine scene has changed like Atlantic City did when they first got casinos!!!! For the worse. Very sad - but............ ........ there is a bright spot still on the North Fork!!! LENZ Winery!!!! We had a few friends from Pennsylvania who wanted again to go to the North Fork with us (we have lived in Miller Place since 2004) and we plod out to the fork every few years with friends. My wife and her childhood friend put some baskets together with cheese, and vegetables, dip, fruit, and some non-alcoholic beverages for me (I don't drink and most vineyards don't seem to offer anything other then tap water or $6 a gallon bottled water more expensive then their wine??? We hit numerous places from Baiting Hollow through Mattituck and when we reached our lunch/snack time vineyard (*** Bedell - where we had lunched numerous times in the past) when we approached the front door it said *** NO FOOD ****!!!!! Seem the LI Wine Council (a subset of wineries) had made a decision to turn the tasters through a little faster and eliminate the big busloads who don't really buy anything to not allow outside food?? VERY disappointing. So my guest and I muled ALL the food baskets back to the car buried way back into the winery access road about 300 yards out on the property and returned back to the winery (1/4 mile round-trip). We left within the hour just as they want you to. - FOREVER in our case. A quick skip down the road to our next vineyard was our usual stop to Lenz. It seems upon a search that Lenz is a long standing and independent organization who still cares about the locals, and customers who come to enjoy their facilities and wine and the bucolic setting which is ALL part of the wine tasting and vineyard experience??? No stupid "club" to join (Roanoke Winery?) - just the community of wine enthusiasts. I CALLED first to make sure we were clear to bring in our goodies as we bought a few bottles of wine and enjoyed ourselves. Lenz said - YES!!!! What a different atmosphere? So welcoming, not shirts and people hawking vendorware and lined up like DisneyWorld for wine and waiting for a table like new york city??? ...and a strange sound not heard as yet all day??? MUSIC from a live trio!!!! We had arrived!!!! (see pictures) we got a few bottles, unloaded our baskets, I tipped the trio a few buckos and we enjoyed ourselves immensely!!! Feeling guilty we did not come here first and skip the hundreds we spent on the "other" folks when the best was right HERE!!!! I spoke to some folks in charge and let them know of our experience......I hope you will drop in and buy a few bottles and enjoy the gem of Lenz!!! The short: I'd been dying to come here for quite some time, and was able to come on a Saturday morning with a wine tour. The wine, vineyard grounds & service were all polished and amazing. The longer: big thanks to Jeff for leading such an amazing, intelligent wine tour. I've been on tons of wine tours, and not one of them cared enough to be as thoughtful & informative as Jeff. We learned a ton, got to taste really amazing wines (helllloooo Chardonnay), and had the most perfect early afternoon. We took pictures, sat and chatted, and walked around. The vineyard is dog-friendly, group-friendly, can host small weddings, and is overall just a really great time. I highly recommend it! read more

Visited a few weeks back while there was a graduation going on. We sat on a picnic table and had preordered the flights during reservations. Our waitress was less than helpful, she never came back to ask if we wanted anything additional and would only take tips on her Venmo or cash app. The other servers came over to us multiple times asking for our glasses even when they weren't quite empty. It was a very odd experience and do not recommend this establishment as nothing was pleasant about it besides the company of the friends I brought. read more

So nice to see dog friendly places since my girl is social and loves going to new places. Tried the firefly Rosé and was delicious. Took home a bottle to enjoy. This is a classic Long Island winery that offers something truly unique to the area - some world class wines! Our group was greeted enthusiastically, and seated promptly. Lenz lets you bring your own cheese and snacks, or you can select from their offerings. The wines here pair well with cheese and fruit. The property offers a warm and charming atmosphere, with a number of seating areas, inside and out - under the pergola, in the courtyard, or in the shaded garden. Lenz produces a number of reds and whites, but there are (in my opinion) a few standouts - 1) Reserve and Old Vine Merlot. Please put your "Sideways" prejudice aside - this is really good juice. The Old Vine is expensive, but it will stack up to any right bank Bordeaux - and the Reserve is excellent for $25; 2) Bubbly - they cannot keep this nice, dry champagne in stock, and it pairs so well with soft cheeses and fruit; 3) a new offering of a white blend named Tete-a-Tete, consisting a 50% each of Pinto Gris and Gewürztraminer. Great spot, terrific staff, and wonderful merlot and bubbly. read more

Stupid asses, I try to avoid you slobs every chance I get. The worst time to come wine tasting? Columbus day when everyone is off. Enough of my ranting. This is about Lenz who produces a superior and award winning wine, Their Chardonnay is an exceptional wine, I highly recommend spending the extra money and buying a bottle of their best white wine. Here's a great idea, for Thanksgiving buy a sweet wine to be served with Turkey. The sweetness will make your dinner pop. My tip for the day. Be nice to the people working in the wineries. If your just there for free booze, don't expect a warm and fuzzy after your third drink. read more

We have been coming here for at least 10 years. My husband and I have been together for 12, started trying wines together a year into the relationship and realized that was something we had in common. We have so many wonderful memories here. I just realized I never wrote a review. The two main employees that stick out in my mind are Jeff and Jerol, they are the most amazing men you'll ever meet. Not to mention, all the other staff that has been around over the years. Top quality service, fantastic wine selection, wonderful sparkling wine, and great events. We bought a case for our wedding six years ago. Unfortunately, we were not able to save a bottle from the year we got married in 2014 (not sure what the actual vintage was at the time). Now to be fair when we went here we came on a wine tour threw elegant limousines(which was terrible) and it was raining out. We had a reservation with the limo company for a table and a tasting. The place was crowded so they literally sat us in the cold factory warehouse on folding chairs. Wine was pretty decent but the pours were very small, even for a tasting. The merlot was my favorite. The staff was nice but because it was so packed they were fairly slow. read more

Did our annual wine tour and the Lenz Winery was on our list.. again, I was disappointed. The overall vibe at this place is lacking. There is literally 1 bathroom inside the main building. It is for both men and women. When the guy came out with the wine he literally was talking to someone else while pouring my wine- he ended up pouring wine all down my leg. Luckily I was wearing black pants and it wasn't a huge deal. I would never come to this place by choice and I don't recommend it. I was relieved to find Lenz to be a lot less chaotic than some of the surrounding wineries. We came on a dreary afternoon a few months back and cozied up in the tasting room with a flight, followed by a glass apiece. Standouts included the cabernet, rosé and chardonnay - bottles were reasonably priced as well, so we left with the cab and rosé. While we didn't take advantage, it's nice to know they allow you to bring your own food, since many wineries won't allow for picnics, only food purchased in-house The grounds were lovely with ample seating and table space.
