I came here via a north fork vineyard tour. This was the third stop on our tour and this vineyard was my favorite. The live music was incredible and added so much to the ambience. They had a beautiful outdoor space with decorations that were perfect for the fall. The wine was also really great! Pugliese Vineyards is a craft winery that opened in Cutchogue, New York in 1980. It was founded by husband and wife Ralph and Pat Pugliese. Ralph learned how to make wine from his father, who made his own wine in Naples, Italy. He and his wife eventually decided to purchase a large tract of land in Long Island's North Fork. Today the area is home to more than 40 wineries and 3,000 acres of planted vineyards. Some of the grape varietals found in the area include Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Franc. Today Pugliese Vineyards has grown to include 55 acres of land and they grow nine grape varietals. They are the only vineyard on Long Island that grows Sangiovese grapes from Tuscany. Ralph passed away in 2011, but you will still find Pat in the tasting room on any given day. Son Peter is now the winemaker, daughter Domenica is the tasting room manager, son Lawrence is the vineyard manager, and son Ralph Jr. is a photographer whose work is sold at the vineyard. My wife and I visited Pugliese Vineyards in October 2018. We were celebrating our first wedding anniversary on Long Island with a private limousine tour of the North Fork Wine Trail. Pugliese was our first stop of the day. The grounds were beautiful and we really liked the decor. We decided to enjoy a tasting and sampled offerings such as their Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Sangiovese, and Riesling. I love coming to Pugliese. It's one of my favorites. I can still bring a picnic here. There is always some kind of music, and it is not a crazy party scene. They have a beautiful pond where you can feed the fish and the turtles and see the occasionally egret hunting. You can sit under the pergola covered with grape vines, or you can sit at the picnic tables in front of the vineyard. It is a family-run business, and the staff couldn't be nicer. This vineyard is in a beautiful setting. There is a pond with picnic tables outside the tasting room and an outside seating area with small wine bar. They have a very good selection of red, white, and desert wines. The wines are all very good, and there was not one that I did not enjoy. My friend told me about this winery and I said why not and ordered some wine. They have a pretty good deal going on where they are offering 6 wines for $69.99. If you live on Long island it is also free delivery! I had to pay a little for shipping because I don't but its all good. We ordered the cabernet franc, the blend, and cabernet sauvignon. All are pretty solid wines. They have good flavor and are perfect in accompanying a dinner at home or dinner out (when we are allowed out of the house). I would check it out. Pugliese Winery was an okay spot. We had a groupon for 4 wine tastings & a "cheese plate". I'm pretty sure everyone else that was here also had a groupon or were part of a tour that included this spot knowing it was a groupon winery. Anyways, once we got there, the "cheese plate" that we got was a pre-packaged paper plate with about 8 crackers and about 4 each cubes of Pepperjack, Cheddar, American cheeses. This is NOT a cheese plate that you would get at a real winery. As for the tastings, we got small plastic cups for maybe a .5 oz pour. While some of the wines were tasty, I thought it was a waste of money. For $17, I could have gotten a bottle of wine AND a real cheese plate (with cheeses, bread, jam, etc) elsewhere. You can bring your own food though which is a plus point (which we didn't), but it's worth it if you bring your own abundance of food and buy a bottle of wine. read more

Of all the vineyards out east, this one was my least favorite. The bartenders were not friendly and talked to my friends and I like we were stupid and they couldn't be bothered. Listen, I get that we're 20 something year olds, but we paid just like everyone else to do a tasting here. They also had a lot of gift baskets, pictures and cheap looking things to sell around. Aww. I can't trash this place. The owners are so nice! The best hidden secret about Pugliese? Anything you buy here, they will customize the bottle. I've purchased sparking wines from Pugliese (which they make a great sparking wine) and will write things like "Happy Holidays Merrill" If you want to give a unique holiday gift, you've arrived. Any jerk can buy a bottle of Johnny Walker. ewww... How about an enjoyable bottle of sparking wine with the persons name on the bottle? Its an unforgettable gift, trust me. This is something I'll never forget. My grandmother, when I was a kid lived in Queens. She grew grapes that I would pick off the vines and eat them. The grapes were so fresh and had a taste that was distinctful, it's something that always stayed with me. Pugliese sells a bottle of Rose, i swear it tastes the same as my grandmothers grapes. This is my second time at Pugliese Vineyards (once in the summer and now once in the fall) and it's been beautiful both times. Probably most noteworthy is the giant, beautiful coy pond in the middle of the space. But, this place actually has some of the better red wine I've had in the Northfork. We came on a Saturday afternoon, and there were tons of people at picnic tables across the property eating lunch and sipping wine. There's a nice vined veranda with shaded seating, and there was a pianist playing. There's a big bar area outside with tons of bartenders who were willing to engage in conversations about their favorite wines with you. The vibe is relaxed, but fun, and great for groups. They take reservations and bus tours if you call in advance. The tastings are substantial, and we actually purchased bottles of the Bella Domenica (lighter red wine- similar to a light Malbec) and the Cabernet Franc. I had a bunch of friends who purchased wine from this location, too. Bottles are on the affordable side. I enjoyed this place and would certainly be back to buy wine and/or recommend this place to friends. :) read more

Not very impressive. Probably the only place you can bring outside food to but that's because it was more like a public park than a vineyard. Wine was just ok and the flights, while cheaper than some surrounding vineyards, were very small and cheaply done. Food were basically lunchable packs. Unlikely I'd come back any time soon. This was our final stop on our bachelorette wine tour, and it had the perfect vibe for it. There was a ton of seating outdoors under a beautiful pergola and around the building, and live music that was just too fun!!! We were dancing and grooving and laughing for hours. The only reasons I am giving them 4 stars instead of 5 are: the bathrooms are very limited so the lines were incredibly long; and more importantly, the wine is not particularly good. Spent time at Pugliese Vineyards on Saturday afternoon as part of a wine tour. This was simply not a place that could handle or even seemed interested in handling a tour crowd. Add in the overpriced glasses and the average wine, and the experience was just not very enjoyable. Quality: Pugliese Vineyards was stop number two on our North Fork wine tour. our visit came with three sample tickets, which I used on the Merlot Reserve, Sunset Meritage, and the Dolce Patricia. I did not enjoy the reds, but liked the Sparkling Dolce Patricia enough to opt for a Bottle. The overpriced glasses, leave you with little choice, but to get a Bottle of Wine. Quantity: The Tasting pours were minimal leading us to believe a Bottle was a better option than a Glass. Value: $10 for a Glass of Wine. $11 to $35 for a Bottle of Wine. Ambiance: Pugliese Vineyards is located in North Fork, Long Island. This is a smaller winery that has a more intimate feel. The tasting room and gift shop are small, and clearly weren't set up to handle a tour bus. Outside they set up a bar under a large tent, but it was not arranged well, causing lines to pile up. Near the tent is a pond filled with koi and a fountain at the center. This was surrounded by numerous picnic tables, creating a picturesque scene. As we were packing up a musician had just started playing guitar outside. Crowd: There were only a few other visitors outside of our large group, yet they still seemed completely unprepared for the crowd. Service: Unlike the other wineries we visited on our tour, the staff at Pugliese had no interest dealing with our tour bus crowd. They relegated the large group to an understaffed outdoor bar and rudely turned folks away inside. Parking: Small paved parking lot and a big grass lot for overflow. read more

It's pretty no frills here, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. There's a small field with plenty of picnic tables and enough space where you're not on top of other groups. The highlight of the space might be the pond, which contains alligator sized koi fish (you can buy food for them for $1) and the cutest little turtles, who get beat up by said koi fish. As you can imagine, this is a lot of fun after a few (bottles) glasses of wine. Speaking of, the wine here isn't bad. It isn't great either, but that's not what you're here for and that's why most bottles are under $15. Grab a bunch of friends, a few plastic cups and enjoy a nice day on the east end here! We chose to come to this Vineyard solely because they allow you to bring outside food. When we arrived we were impressed by the grounds. There's a nice pond and a large picnic area. The tasting room left a lot to be desired though. It looked very run down. We purchased a bottle of the Chardonnay Gold and were given a couple of plastic cups. We brought it outside along with our snacks. The wine was not good at all. Tasted like cheap wine, not something I would expect at a Vineyard. The ambiance was nice and it was great that we were able to enjoy our own snacks. I probably won't be back though since the whole point of going to a winery is the wine, and theirs wasn't good. read more

Although this is a little off the road and may be hard to find if you haven't been here before, it is worth a visit. This is the perfect winery for a beautiful summer day where you can sit outside under the grape vines, listen to live music, sip cold wine by the pond, and most importantly...picnic! There are usually Groupons or Amazon Local deals which are good for tasting for 2. Each tasting consists of 4 different wines of your choice, and the best is that you don't have to have the same wine as your groupon partner. This winery was part of our wine tour. The scenery was pleasant (pond view, benches, a huge awning with tables and chairs and a long stretched walkway that accompanies scenic view). This would be a nice pick for a wedding or special dinner reception. Unfortunately, the staff and the wine was unpleasant. The wait staff at the bar had nasty attitudes like they were so annoyed to deal with us. Even when I asked to use the bathroom, the lady that was inside the store was either in a bad mood or her attitude just sucked. The wine tastings were dis-gust-ing. I didn't even finish the samples. At this point, my sister knew I was ready to leave. We had to wait a bit for the other vineyard to get set up for us since they were preparing a hot buffet but this one was such a waste. My friends and I purchased a Groupon deal for Pugliese Vineyards, which included a tasting of wines along with a cheese platter. I cannot stress how much of a great time I had at Pugliese. There were tents outside where we chatted with the employees there and really appreciated the wines they had to offer. I, actually, ended up buying a bottle of their dessert wine to take back to the city. If you come here, you can actually make a day of it, their outdoor space is beautiful with a pond, a few picnic tables, and a live band playing. I explained he was dropping us off and leaving but it didn't matter as she was demanding we leave. She would not even take the time to listen or offer another option. My family liked it here. Tasty snacks, wines, and a great picnic area. Our only regret is how late in the year we decided to come by (Christmas weekend). Now, every single wine we tried was awesome and we decided to buy a couple bottles here. The lady who helped us was mostly accommodating and was generally helpful. This was the last stop on our day long wine tour in the North Fork and easily my favorite location. It has this fantastic laid back vibe that's very reminiscent of Sonoma. They have a lightly sloping lawn that leads to a small pond and several areas to sit and lounge, either in the grass, at a picnic table, under a tent. They have an ample large bar with multiple servers and a menu of the different selections. I like the idea that you can sort of choose your own tasting flight. They do serve the tastings in plastic cups and they don't really talk about the "tasting notes" so in that regard it's different from a "proper" wine tasting. But it's relaxed, has an upscale casual vibe and some really killer sparkling wines. 10/10 would go again. read more

Stopping in on a slow Sunday afternoon we were directed to the outdoor tent. We were reluctant to buy "tasting tickets" as it was a cold dreary day. Getting out to the tent, we were told the heat was broken and inside would be open shorty. Moving all tasters inside the 2 servers were clearly overwhelmed moving all the wine and attending to the patrons. We were randomly attended to. By being ask what pour we wanted and then taking our "ticket" and on to the next person. Perhaps just my own preference, however I enjoy the description and dialogue between wine server and myself. We did not get that here. Didn't love any of the wines. Nor the service. They seem to have been awarded several awards for wines previously. But not for my pallet. Try Bedell down the street. Such a classier more thorough tasting experience. read more

Not a fan, as this is the main stop for bachelor and bachelorette parties. What comes with groups, comes with noise, and with a winery, I rather sit, drink and relax, then watch drunk groups and their shenanigans. They have a huge outside area with a nice pond with a fountain. When you go inside to buy a flight, they give you raffle tickets to redeem outside. But when you get wine outside, they present it in plastic cups. That's what you do to cheap wine. I feel that this winery is geared towards satisfying parties then to establish a loyal fan base for their wine. Definitely not my cup of tea. read more

I definitely disagree with most of the reviewers here, which is unusual for me, but my husband and I absolutely loved Pugliese Vineyards. Set a bit aside from the main road of North Fork where the rest of the wineries live, Pugliese has what seems like endless acres of beautiful grape vines (and it was peak harvest season, so we saw lots of grapes!) and nestled right in the middle is a secluded tasting area inside a tent with a fountain on the side - very quaint and gorgeous scenery for a wine tasting. When we arrived, we went straight to the tent (apparently we were supposed to go buy tickets inside first) but the woman helped us right there and let us pay for our tastings outside. She was super nice and accommodating - granted, we were one of two parties there when we first arrived, but as our time progressed, another large party came as well. Despite being a bit understaffed (There were only two women there to do all the pouring), we got to have really great conversations and learn quite a bit about the wines, the vineyard, its history, etc. The women even shared some funny stories with us. We really had a great time! As for the wines, there were certainly some I would take and some I would leave, as with most vineyards I've visited. My favorites were the Sparkling wines. Both the Sparkling Rose (I can't remember the exact name - dolce something? It surprisingly was not overly sweet but rather was nicely balanced, despite the name!) and the Blanc de Blanc champagne were my favorites. The Cab Franc and the unoaked chardonnay were also good. Do yourself a favor and don't bother with the Sangiovese. It may be the only one produced on the island but there must be a reason for that :) Another benefit was the price... compared with other vineyards we stopped by in the area, $8 for a tasting of four wines was a good value. And the pours were gracious! All in all, great experience and I'd highly recommend stopping by this vineyard if you're wine tasting in the North Fork of LI! read more

We've been coming here for around 20 years- our favorite winery on Long Island. It exemplifies the the varietals available and does so with reserve and short releases. Our old time favorite (that is still offered) is the Chardonnay Gold. We like it because it is oaky or cloying, but has medium depth and bright bursts of flavor- not to mention around $16/bottle. I also prefer the Bella Dominica red as it is light bodied, yet still dry with subtle hints of fruit. You can't go wrong stopping at Pugliese for a flight or glass and relaxing next to the pond. read more

I loved the outdoor space immediately...it was a gorgeous sunny day, and they had lots of picnic tables set up, a small natural pergola area, and a tasting tent outdoors.
