When they moved to McLean earlier this year, I went with about 20 items to put up for consignment. (I had made appointment as they require.) I brought in beautiful clothes, in excellent condition. They took the boxes to the back to inspect the clothing and choose which they wanted to take for consignment; and while that was going on I browsed. I couldn't believe the downgrade in the clothing; while the quality was fine, I did not see anything stylish for sale. I was not even tempted to try anything on. After about 20 minutes the owner comes back and says she cannot take any of my items, although she would consider one in the fall (it was a spring/summer item, as were all the pieces, as this took place in mid-Spring) and I "could come back in a few months." Super dismissive and arrogant. The one good thing was the friendly young man at the counter, who I chatted with while I waited. I see the positive reviews here are years old, so here's an update: NTY management is just as or even more snobby now, the prices are even higher -- not just because of time passing but also likely the expensive location -- and they don't even have cool clothes any more.

The staff were visible and ready to help but not pushy. The inventory was well curated and full but not overly stuffed. I saw a number of nice sweaters and dresses that I liked, and I ended up buying one. Also a lot of fun gifts, jewelry, and assorted decor items. This store is geared toward an older crowd, which I really like. I'm past the age of shopping at some other resale boutiques that focus on only the trendiest items in juniors sizing. New To You is more JCrew and higher-end items. Prices seemed to be about 50 percent off original retail. Could you find some of these items thrifting? Sure, but it'd be like pulling a needle from a haystack. I'm willing to pay more for a tailored selection of good-condition items. I'll come back to shop here.

The owner, Amanda, is so passionate about her work and kind-hearted. She will greet you warmly and make you feel like you walked into a safe space. While you'll probably visit for all the amazing pieces, Amanda is also focused on community. She almost always invites other creators to come sale their items or provide their services. For example, she had an event with a local coffee pop-up, one with a local seamstress doing on-site alterations, a nail art specialist, and many times other vintage sellers. I've picked great, reasonably priced clothing for work (LL Bean/GAP/Talbots etc) mostly separates and the occasional dress) and items like a Tiffany sunglasses case, two gemstone necklaces, a pair of Cole Haan loafers a few men's polos for my son. Great selection of Halloween costumes, Xmas decor - in season - and pieces of unique/quality china and serving dishes, even a solid wood side table for $40. I was told it would be done in two weeks and I never got a call. I dropped by today out of curiosity and I saw they're closed for the entire month of December. That would've been nice to know when I dropped it off. I still don't have it back. I haven't gotten a call. I haven't gotten a text. She'll even tell me to hold on to things and bring them back later when they're more likely to move. Her prices are fair which helps. I like the structure where you can pop in any time and drop things off...you have to prep buttons, zippers etc. in advance but that just makes things run smoothly.

They also have sale items depending on color price sticker if you are a member (sign up free). Although the selects are hit and miss, you can't beat the prices for music and books. Much cheaper than other thrift stores. Some cds are still in plastic. I see a lot of younger people browse for vinyl records and there is also a good selection. Most are from people's personal collections. Can't be the prices. Getting in and out can be tricky depending on traffic. And if you feel generous, round up to the next dollar cause you definitely save a lot shopping for your music and reading needs!

During this most recent visit last week I was refitted and tried on at least a dozen bras, lingerie, and corsets. Ursula and Ashley were amazing--helpful, patient, and genuine hype girls (over the course of 2+ hours of indecision). They took turns bringing things based on what I picked out, my updated size, and whatever else caught their expert eye, and helped me get in and out of the corsets as needed. We even talked must-have skincare at one point!
