For kids clothes, save yourself a headache and avoid 529 Kids Consign. Blossom and Buds and Lemon Lane have better prices and customer service. I've had 3 negative experiences at 529 Kids Consign over 4 months. 1- I bought kids' items on Instagram. Since the shop is a 30-45 minute drive for me, I called first to ensure my items were ready for pickup. The salesperson said, "I have them right here!" However, when I arrived, she was frantically searching for them. I asked for a refund, but was told to come back the next day when the owner, Megan, was in the store. When I explained this wasn't a possibility because I work full-time, she finally relented and gave me store credit but wouldn't issue a refund. 2- Before buying a kid's item on Instagram, I asked if there was any pilling, holes, or stains. I was told the item was in like-new condition. When I picked it up, it had lots of piling and a second item I bought had stains. (I was able to exchange the items, but the store needs to be more transparent about the condition of items.) 3- I was the first person to claim and pay for an item on Instagram. When I went to collect it, I was given the wrong dress. The store sold the dress I claimed to another customer who was second to claim. The salesperson called the owner Megan and her response was, "Uggh. I can't DEAL with this RIGHT NOW. I need to be a mom." I was shocked at her response. I have four children and my time is valuable too! A better response from the owner might have been, "I'm so sorry for the mixup. I'm not in a position to address this right now. May I call you back?" I offered the salesperson my phone number and asked if the owner could call me at a more convenient time. When Megan did call me she said, "There's nothing we can do and I can't help it that YOU read the post wrong." When I offered a suggestion on how to improve labeling in the Instagram posts, she said, "There's not a problem with our process." Further, when I mentioned how two of my items were previously lost Megan said, "I can't control what comes out of everyone's mouths. The items weren't lost, they were probably in the store but the girl couldn't find them and she probably doesn't even work here anymore." Megan also said she two girls who work in the store have dyslexia. It seemed strange to me that Megan didn't keep employees' medical issues private. Being open to feedback and providing training for employees are hallmarks of a good business. Sadly, 529 Kids Consign doesn't provide even the most basic level of customer service. So I'm choosing to spend my money elsewhere. read more

BLUF: overrun with Alexandria's privileged who want to look like they have money. This is also a shared space between adult and children's consignment. While waiting patiently for way too long for my child to try on one dress, we watched a lady walk in as if entitled to consign things without an appointment and the obsequious, young employees kowtowed to that privileged lady. Meanwhile, my daughter had to go to the bathroom to try on the dress after waiting for at least 15 minutes while other women were hogging the dressing rooms. We decided that this place is not worth our time or money. read more

529 Kids Consign is a two-level store in Old Town Alexandria inside a rowhouse. My little family visited after the annual St. Patrick's Day parade and picked up a dress for $20 for our six-year-old. They have the used clothes well organized and sell other goodies like toys, etc. Service was helpful! read more

I have consigned and purchased kids clothes. While they are selective, I think that is a good thing; it makes for good shopping! Also they will let you drop clothes and send you the receipt later if that is your preference. They donate what they don't take. I would recommend consigning here! read more

I stumbled across this store yesterday as I was walking about Hollin and decided to go in after I noticed a cute display. I was the only one in the store and the woman was friendly and asked if I needed anything. I told her I was just looking and she let me be as I walked around the store. I noticed some of the prices seemed high esp for the quality of second hand clothing. Maybe it's because I don't buy the types of brands that she had, but again the quality wasn't the greatest on some pieces. They had several racks of clothes all properly marked by size and gender. The brands I saw were mini Boden, Lilly pullitzer, Hanna Andersen, Patagonia, etc. There were also several racks of sale prices: 50% off and 25% off. They had a good variety of new and used toys as well as some baby essentials that looked second hand. They also had some mom apparel in the back with shoes. I bought a pair of ruffle butt tights, bombas socks, and a hair bow for my daughter as well as a sweatshirt from the clearance area for $30. It was pricey and after a little research it showed me Amazon was about a dollar cheaper for the bombas and tights but I like to support small business so I'm not sweating it. They have a promotion card as well where after 10 visits of spending $25 or more you get 25% off your entire purchase. I don't foresee myself personally filling that punch card but I will return to peruse. read more

I've been a regular consignor here and yesterday I had a disappointing experience. I can break down the flaws of this place to a few factors: -- the young woman at the desk was stuck up. She pointed out light staining on my clothes. I said I went through everything before bringing it in as I'm aware of their standards. I asked her to point out the stains (I brought in about 50 items) and she struggled to find them on three. Like you would need a magnifying glass. So I felt the "staining" piece was unnecessary and rude. -- they apparently don't take things more than a year old even if it's in new condition. Ummmm---you are a CONSIGNMENT store. You will never come here for "this year's trend." Personally I would rather buy my kids like-new items from 3 years ago (which people wouldn't remember as being passé) than like-new items from last year. -- I will never understand how a consignment store-- whose main virtue should be keeping our clothes out of landfills and being good to the planet-- sells a large amount of new plastics/ toys made in China. To boot, the new unused items are ridiculously marked up. Unfortunately my daughter became very attached to a unicorn item so I bought it. It retails for 6$ on Amazon, new and COMPLETE (with a strap) but this place sells it incomplete (minus strap) and "new" (so where is the strap) for ... wait for it .... 19.99. See photos. I'll be looking for a new place to consign. I came in with three bins of amazing clothes (mainly Tea and Hannah) and they took only a handful of items. Crazy. This despite having almost no inventory when I arrived. In fact, they now have more new made in China gizmos than used clothing... what is the point. And so much for being good to the planet. read more

This used to be one of my favorite kids shops in the area. I would always come in when I was in town, and started following them on instagram, as well as recommending them to all my mom friends. I purchased a pair of baby shoes for my sister online, and even though I entered the correct address on the invoice (my sister who has the newborn's address) they sent it to the address they had on file for me, somewhere I don't live anymore. They acknowledged their mistake and we waited to see if the shoes came back to the store. And did they? I have no idea. Because I'm still waiting, 6 weeks later, to hear any response from them. I've messaged them 4 times and called the store twice, and haven't heard anything. I guess they just decided to keep my sister's money, instead of owning up to their mistake and fixing the problem. Meh. They have some cute stuff but the prices can be found with new items from the mall on sale. I do not recommend buying anything on their Instagram page bc their idea of "good condition" varies from item to item. I didn't have the greatest experience in the store yesterday and regret even making the effort. When I walked up with my daughter, who was in her handicapped adaptable stroller, I asked the young woman working if there was a way I can leave the door open, so I can carry her stroller the 3 stairs to get inside. She couldn't be bothered to get off her phone and make an effort to help with the door. Luckily, a very nice customer held the door open for me so I can carry her in. I didn't make it upstairs due to a flight of stairs. I think the customer service could definitely be improved and maybe some training on etiquette and common courtesy. read more

This place is as cute as it gets! They have an great selection of maternity to infant gear and clothing. They carry gently used and new. I love the set-up as, its not like your typical consignment shop, with disorganized heaps and racks. This place is clean and neat. The owners are kind and charming. The idea of being able to dress my kid in designer duds without the designer price tags is very appealing! To date I have purchased a green/organic lunch Tupperware, an organic/green lunch bag, and a hand stitched top. My kid is stylin! I will definitely be going back for more of my daughter and personal needs in the future. read more

I've visited this store three times. I want to love it but the customer service is poor. It is a small shop. When I have walked in on three separate occasions I have not been greeted or spoken to. My brands included Ralph Lauren, Crew Cuts (J Crew), Gap, Lilly Pulitzer, Janie & Jack, and several Nordstrom brands. Their selection isn't huge, but I found many excellent pieces for great prices here. The customer service was outstanding - even my non-pregnant friends were having a good time! I feel like this place is really hit or miss. We went in after hearing great reviews and saw that they had a ton of toddler clothes and a decent selection of infant clothes. The maternity clothes were a little lacking and there wasn't a ton of gear available. We told the owner exactly what we were looking for and to email us if one came in, that was about three months ago and we haven't received an email or any kind of update. The owner was nice enough, we chatted for a few while checking out, but my issue was the prices. We saw plenty of used baby clothes upstairs that we found at target a few days later brand new for cheaper than what the consigners were selling it for. Secondhand should be a little bit of a deal in my opinion, not more expensive than brand new and never worn. read more

Amazing deals here. Some are brand new and nice and even still at a reduced price. If you can find some of the half off deals even better. Hard several baby bjorns and other even larger ticket items for almost a steal of a deal. Lots of cute kids clothes for the ladies to pick out as well. I visited 529 for the first time today and had a wonderful experience. S. Royal St. has paid parking and on a Friday late afternoon, it was still fairly easy to find a spot. I was able to find several items for my infant son that were very high quality and well organized. I would have liked to look in this shop but unfortunately I couldn't because there's no stroller entry. My son had just fallen asleep so I parked him at the door at the 'stroller parking' sign and went inside, keeping an eye on him through the Perspex door. But all that was downstairs was older girls clothes, the rest is upstairs and obviously I couldn't enter the shop further and leave my son unattended. read more

Overall the shop is nice, but my experience was awful i consign my daughter brand new Jcrew shoes with the price tag still on them for $59.00 a pair , and as I would have never expect them to fly right out the door, for 16.99 a piece, which I did not know they was price that low! In addition to find out I was getting half of 16.99 for 60 dollars shoes . Consignors please check you items before head!!!! really a wonderful store and a wonderful addition to Old Town. so thrilled to be able to frequent a local, local kid's consignment store. have shopped here often, including buying wonderful things for unyet born (or even thought of) babies b/c it was just too good to pass up - price and quality wise! that certainly says a lot about any store, let alone consignment. just dropped off my consigned prospectives and i love how nice the experience was, i often find consigning a bit challenging, this was not. whether it sells or not, will be back. overall, a positive experience and a business i look forward to frequenting. read more

Love this store! It was my second visit today. One of the owners seems to always be there, they have a great selection, and the prices are good, especially because they always have a few racks of clothes and shows that are 25% - 50% off. The regular prices are higher than you'd find in some other areas, but are still better than the closest "competitor" Bellies and Babies. Parking is actually really easy, even though the store is right in the heart of Old Town. I don't think the store is organized the best, but the friendly service outweighs any negatives. read more

I've been a loyal customer of 529 Kids--usually via Instagram--for five years. They have an excellent selection of brand and boutique clothes. I come here for Tea, Boden, Hanna, Joules, Beaufort Bonnet Company, Patagonia, Mayoral, Vineyard Vines, lots of cute smocked and appliqué brands. They are a fantastic source for boys dress shoes from Footmates and Sperry. The owner, Megan is personable, engaging, friendly and knows her customers. She is down to earth and active in the Old Town community. I often find it hard to find nicer boys' brands but as a fellow "boy mom" she's my go-to resource for special occasion clothes. On my last trip, I picked up several Tea collection long sleeved t-shirts and a boutique brand space ship raincoat and Castaway Clothing embroidered holiday pants. Always something good on store! I also outfitted my entire work maternity wardrobe here. I work in a professional dress industry and got lots of cute dresses, blazers and a winter coat here. read more

They also had a great selection of baby shoes that were in excellent condition. All of the products are of a nice quality and the store is organized and tidy. The staff is helpful and friendly. They also have gear and maternity clothes, though I have only shopped there for kids clothes. They seem to have a little more girls clothes than boys, but ah, such is life as the mom of a little boy. read more

I LOVE this place! It definitely deserves 5 stars. Yelp has the address wrong, though. It is 122A South Royal Street, Alexandria, Virginia. Here is why I love this place. 1. Great Location--It is less than a block away from King Street. It is set back a little from the road, so you have to look for the sign, but it is not too hard to find. 2. Adorable Decor--The two floors are artfully decorated. The whole place has a sophisticated, upscale feel with wood flooring and brightly colored walls. 3. Wonderful Selection--I have a hard time with thrift stores because I spend so much time looking for good items and almost always come up short. The clothes here are clean and beautiful, and there is a broad array of items available. I have a 10-month-old son, and I found him cute one-piece outfits from Janie & Jack and Polo Ralph Lauren, darling swim trunks and a matching hat, and a versatile Tommy Hilfiger white collared shirt, among other things. (They also have maternity wear and baby gear.) 4. Affordable Prices--Granted, when shopping for baby clothes, it is easy to get carried away, but the first time I visited this shop I didn't pay more than $12 for any single item! If you like dressing your baby in quality, elegant clothes but don't have the money to shop at United Colors of Benetton or Janie & Jack, :-P then this is the store for you.
