My boyfriend and I absolutely loved Evolution Home! They have two massive rooms full of unique antiques. The store is set up as multiple stalls for different vendors, but everything is located in the same room. There are a lot of pieces in the hundreds, but it's really easy to find beautiful things for less than $50. I bought a great hand-painted serving bowl and pitcher. Evolution home has a large selection of vintage clothing, designer bags, home decor, and furniture. Would highly recommend checking this store out. Only downside is the parking. There is limited availability in the front of the store, and even so, the spot required us to 8 point turn to get out because someone parked really close behind us. read more

Please help me understand. Why would a business blatantly lie and deceive people? Initially, they were friendly, appreciative, and eager to receive our consignment. However, now that our consignment contract has expired and we're owed money from sales of our items, they've become unresponsive, rude, dishonest, and uncommunicative. Our contract ended on July 31st, and as per the contract terms, we picked up unsold items on July 29th, "before the end of your contract." We've been calling and emailing them since September, but they've given us different answers each time we've phoned and haven't responded to emails.They've said, "The owner will call you back." "Did you read the contract terms? It says you'll be paid 90 days after the contract ends." "We have new accountants. They'll contact you about payment." "Check your SPAM folder. We probably emailed you and didn't hear where your payment should be sent." Our contract reads, "Checks are sent 1 month AFTER your expiration date." In our case, that was one month after July 31st, or August 31st. Thankfully, the loss won't bankrupt us, but business practices like this will result in bad karma for them. We plan to report them to the appropriate authorities and hope others will do the same. Shame on you, Evolution Home. At this point any excuse is impossible to understand. read more

I happened to run into the store because I was going to the habitat restore, which is a few doors down. It looked interesting so I decided to go in and look around. The store is chock-full of goodies. It appears that each section is a booth for an individual vendor. Prices range from moderate to high. This is not a thrift store level. Go find a gem for a ridiculously low price kind of place. However, you will find some unique and vintage pieces. Maybe even one-of-a-kind or hard to find. There is everything from furniture to jewelry to home decor. It's well worth a walk-through to take your time and look at all that they have to offer. What a really cute antique store. We were in town looking for stuff for my son's apartment and came across Evolution Home. This place reminded me of the antique stores in Fredericksburg, but Evolution was much brighter and organized. We ended up NOT finding anything for my son...Wifey, however, walked out with a beautiful antique ring and a very cool table tray for our coffee table at home. I agree with many of the other commenters; timely payment for consigned items is horrible. While I admit I keep consigning at Evolution Home, I have to wait at least a month or more for payment (not as bad of an experience of other commenters), and it takes a long time for them to respond to my email inquiries. I consign there only because I'm not aware of any other places to consign in Northern Virginia. If anyone is, please reply. Another CONSIGNER BEWARE warning. I consigned a dresser and nightstand with Evolution Home in May 2024. It was sold almost immediately the same month. Their consignment contract provides for a 3 month consignment period, with payment for sold items due the month following the end of the consignment period. My consignment period ended Aug 1, which means payment was due in September. It is now mid-October and I have not received payment and am getting the runaround on the issue. I emailed initially with no response. I called, spoke to a very rude woman who told me August checks are now paid in October and then hung up on me while I stating the contract said September (and I was given no explanation for the delay). I stopped by the store and was told some people are having issues getting paid because of the mail. Weeks later I have now received an email response stating they are so sorry but having back end tech delays and would forward my inquiry to accounting. I have yet to hear a response or receive payment. I have now had to demand immediate payment and will be pursuing legal action if it is not remitted immediately. Incredibly frustrating for a large, supposedly reputable business and practices that essentially amount to theft. And I see I am not the only one having this experience. read more

The Evolution Home move to the Pickett location is one regret the owner may or will have. My visits to the store decreased not just because of the industrial location but because of the poor customer service to the clients that make this business possible. The move created a change in staff that quite honestly do not know how to service people. Suggestions for improvement are not frown upon. It took five months to receive my consignor check despite the contract agreement. Only when I consistently pressed the issue did I receive a check. My days of a consignor and customer are over! I can no longer recommend Evolution Home. Do yourself a favor and consign, sell, or shop elsewhere. Richmond, VA has plenty of antique and vintage shops that make for a nice day trip. There are other shops nearby with vendor and consignment opportunities. read more

Be careful...this place is very overpriced. Bought a pair of brass candle holders today for $68, only to look at the inside when I got home and saw a Goodwill sticker for $9.99 for the pair. All sales are final at this store as well. They have a lot of pretty stuff, just make sure you're getting things actually worth what they're asking for. read more

My rating is specifically about the consignment process. The contract the store has you sign gives a specific time period which you will be paid. the last two times I have consigned, I have not been paid until 2 months after the specified time period I was supposed to be paid. And even then I had to call and ask repeatedly. The workers are evasive or vague when asked about the late checks. I can only assume there are financial issues with the store? The store itself has a great selection of items, so shopping there is a nice experience, but if you are looking to consign items there, beware! read more

CONSIGNER BEWARE!!!! I consigned a Dunn coffee table with this business in *February* and was told I would receive a check by *June*. It's now *September*, and after numerous attempts to follow up, I have yet to receive payment or any meaningful communication. I did speak with someone in the consignment department who informed me that all she could do was leave messages for the bookkeeper but admitted she couldn't force anyone to return my call. This lack of accountability and follow-through is extremely frustrating and unprofessional. I am owed several hundred dollars, and the continued silence from the business is unacceptable. I've been on the lookout for a consignment store- especially one that sells furniture and home decor. After a few (not so successful) attempts, I finally stumbled across Evolution Home. There was stuff everywhere. And I don't mean that in a disorganized way! There is just so much stuff for the consignment-enthusiast to have fun with. The prices are pretty fair, and I like seeing the prices change on the tag depending on how long it's been on the market. Unfortunately, with COVID, their dates are technically delayed a month because they weren't open for a while. I think that's fair, but the bargain part of me was slightly sad about it. Either way, I walked away with some beautiful crystal wine glasses, and a pair of brass candlestick holders for less than $40! I say that's a win. Interesting stuff, but pricing is delusional. If you are looking for something unique and are okay with paying a premium for it, then go here. But otherwise I'd take an hour to drive out to Lucketts instead. The artwork prices were outrageous. Paintings that look like they were done at a paint and sip class - $40+. Remember that print from the 2000's that everyone had in their red dining room - the one where the couple is dancing in the rain while waiters hold umbrellas over them? - $40. Furniture prices close or even more than you would pay for new. There were a select few pieces that had been refinished with chalk paint where you could sort of justify the price because someone put some time and effort into it. But most is overpriced. The new location, ambience and customer service sales team is not one you want to spend your time on. The sales lady literally followed me around the store and kept asking me to hold my purchases at the front every two minutes. I felt like I was being stalked! Unpleasant shopping experience. The space itself is like a big warehouse now with big white bright lights and hard concrete floors. Nothing relaxing about this experience. The dealers are spaced apart from the middle of the store for walking around. It feels like an antique mall you would find somewhere in the middle of nowhere with a bunch of jumbled up collections. On one occasion, I saw a "Campbell's Soup Cans" Andy Warhol inspired art. The 20's year old didn't know, in fact it pointed out "I never saw the picture, I don't know who Andy is". I want to clarify this is nobody's fault. Evolution Home was a pleasant surprise when I visited last Thursday. I hadn't expected much based on the location and the semi filled parking lot. Although, I miss rummaging through racks to find that hidden treasure; it is nice to walk into a store where they've already done that work for you. One of the gentleman who was showing customers around explained that the business use to be located in the Del Ray part of Alexandria. The building with their business was sold and they decided to relocate. I think. It is safe to say Del Ray's loss is Huntington's gain. The store reminds me of how a interior design center is set up. Each space is set up like little rooms with a theme centered around them. I will be back when their consignment shop and/or expanded furniture space is open (in a couple of weeks). The prices (from the pieces I looked at) are reasonable for vintage, consignment or used items. Do not expect to go into this place of business to find thrift store like prices. They're prices are not dirt cheap because their selling items of a higher quality than what you might find in a thrift store. However, the price of their furniture and other home goods is cheaper (and in my opinion has more character) than brand new pieces. read more

I didn't notice any staff behaving badly, but that's largely because I didn't see any staff. The furniture prices are absolutely delusional. I did a full circuit of the store and only saw one thing that seemed reasonably priced. I opted to leave it behind because I just couldn't countenance the overall pricing structure and didn't want to give the store any money, I was that put out by what I was seeing. The value of things vs. the price of them is so out it joint that it seemed insulting to the customer's intelligence. I went across the street to Goodwill and walked out with a beautiful antique wood-framed buffet mirror for $19.99, a solid wood end table for $5.99, and some suede-lined valet boxes for 2.99 each. Obviously they can't beat Goodwill prices, but the savvy shopper will check all the thrift stores in the area rather than paying their prices. No lie, this mirror would have been inappropriately priced at $150 (at least) over there. read more

Its like a museum where you can actually buy and touch stuff. Great addition to Alexandria! This store has all the pieces you find in Old Town minus the small cramped spaces and ample parking. The staff is great and when possible you can negotiate prices down. They have everything here! Furniture, jewelry, decorations, china, books, even some old school electronics. This is a great place to go on a rainy Saturday afternoon. Plan on spending at least an hour or two just browsing. Be aware, some of the things are antique and others are not. But the prices on the items will pretty much indicate which is which. read more

I will never step inside this store again- which is a shame, given that I found a few pieces I really loved. The only reason this place is getting one star is that they had a couple good pieces. I very recently inherited my grandmothers house, and am looking to sell a lot of the belongings in it and replace them with things that are more my taste. Maybe I should have volunteered that information when I walked in- maybe that would have made my time there worthy. Silly me. Silly me...? Anyway, my dad and I walked in, with a large budget and a new checkbook in my back pocket. Zero acknowledgement. We walked around for about 30 minutes before finding a rustic dining room table, couch, and satee (spelling?) that I was in love with. First of all, OH the attitude when we asked if someone could answer a few of our questions. An older gentleman followed us over to the table, answered one question, making it VERY clear that we were impinging on his standing behind the front desk time, and he was annoyed by us asking him to spare a few minutes of his time. As SOON as their was a moment of silence, he rolled his eyes, mumbled something and rushed off. We didn't waste any time trying to chase him, or anyone for that matter to look at the other pieces. On our way out, already irritated, we stopped one last time by the front counter to ask about selling or consigning about quite a few pieces. We waited five minutes, two feet away from the TWO people ignoring us behind the counter for the same guy to take a break from showing his coworker pictures on his phone and notice us. When we asked about consignment, he didn't say a word and assertively handed us a packet of papers- I guess instructions. Anyway, I have been curious about this place since they opened, and was super excited to explore another antique shop- one of my favorite hobbies. While I try to support local/mom n' pop businesses as much as I can, I won't be back. This is the WORST customer service experience I have EVER had. read more

Evolution Home is a great place to window shop if you're passing by, or if you live nearby it's a nice collection of many dealers around the area. If you're looking for something in particular, I'd say you're better off contacting the specific shop or dealer to see if they can help keep an eye out for something for you. I'm not sure if hands off is the way they work, but I had a new apartment and money burning a hole in my pocket the first time I visited. I got a couple looks up and down but apparently I didn't smell like money because that's the most interaction I got from anyone. I finally got some information from a woman who had her wares in the back of the building and she explained if I had questions about delivery and such I'd have to talk to someone who worked for Evolution Home but she was sure they'd be able to help out with a truck. I definitely left there more confused than when I went in, and sadly subsequent visits didn't clear a whole lot up for me. Again, I still love to go in there to look when I am nearby and have time to kill - but I can't really bring myself to spend money until the day I come across an Eames chair with a price I can't resist (highly unlikely, since they definitely price on the high end here.) read more

I am a big fan of this place, and that's coming from someone who really hates antique shopping. It's huge and there is a wide variety of merchandise at different price points. I personally really like the art dealer in the back right corner - you can find some really nice art at a steal - I've gotten beautiful pieces for as low as $3.50. There is a bunch of nice furniture too but since I'm not a huge furniture connoisseur I'm not sure whether the prices are reasonable. I've always had friendly interactions with the staff there - the art guy has marked down pieces for me without me asking! Overall, definitely worth a browse. read more
