I ventured into this place on a whim. It was right down the street from a few thrift stores so I figured why not. After reading the reviews I knew it also carried newish type stuff. But what I wasn't prepared for was almost a complete lack of "antique" items save a handful of booths. Most of it was newer shabby chic & kitschy type stuff you'd find at upscale home & garden boutiques. Nothing struck my fancy as it was a little on the high side of pricey. Seems like a good place if you want to consign your items. Had a question about an item but the staff was MIA or too busy plugging away at the computer. The only pro to this place is the one vendor that specializes in Mid Century Modern furniture. It was expensive but in excellent condition. I don't think I'll make a special trip out to this place but I might pop in if I was in the area. read more

I started coming here when they were in their previous location on Mount Vernon Ave. in Del Ray. I wish they were still there since it was only two blocks from my apartment, and I loved to stop in on the weekends just to wander through and browse. The nice thing about the new space is that there seems to be more room, which means there is more to browse but you don't feel overwhelmed with clutter like you can in other stores. They have lots of different dealers that are selling their wares, so the prices can range from steals to .... well, let's just call it "I'm just not willing to pay that much." Some of the dealers are open to negotiating, and the floor staff can call them to see if they'll take a lower price, so don't be afraid to ask. I've bought paintings in beautiful frames, cast iron wall hooks, and decanters. On my last visit, I managed not to spend any money, but only because I was helping a friend who bought three paintings, five mirrors, and some burlap curtains. read more

I used to go to Evolution when it was on Mount Vernon Ave (formerly Potomac West Antiques), and I've continued to shop at the current location. My main issue--and I was hoping it would change when they moved--is the smell. If you have any allergies to dust or mold, stay far away. Yes, it's a vintage shop and vintage shops often have a smell, but I always leave wheezing. As for the antiques themselves, I've found some amazing pieces that I'll keep forever. The selection of mid-century furniture is particularly excellent, but not overpriced. I'll continue to shop at Evolution, but not as often as I would if it didn't set off my allergies. read more

This place is wonderful. I was at a store down the street where a lady was trying to sell me a 1800s mirror for almost 200. Stopped in here and found exactly the same mirror for 30 bucks. It was in better condition and was true to date. Someone had replaced the mirror but the frame was old. A bit of cleaning and it's great. We always find interesting things here. read more

This place is pretty freaking cool. While I didn't buy anything, I spent probably two hours in there just walking through and looking at all the antiques and vintage items. While most of the items I loved were out of my price range (although reasonably priced), I will definitely be back. BE CAREFUL WHEN CONSIGNING YOUR ITEMS TO THIS BUSINESS! I consigned two items to Evolution Home. The sales person I dealt with was extremely unprofessional. They took my items and displayed them in the corner behind many other items. Then after 60 days (I think I came in on the 61st day to pick them up because I was told they did not sell). They claimed I did not arrive on the 60th day so they sold them on thier own - for profit! I received no compensation for my items! So, my items did not sell for the 60 day period (when I was entitled to compensation) and then all of a sudden they sell in a day (when they supposedly own the piece)! I went here after reading about it in Northern VA magazine. Well they spun the story really well for me to drive 30" to see this "amazing" place. If you like junk then this is the place for you but I wouldn't categorize it as NoVa did as "a place to buy inexpensive furniture"??? It doesn't look ANYTHING like the photos. I often visit different antique shops for silver dimes and half dollar coins. I have to say this is one organize antique shop, they have a good selection of everything, it is clean and plenty of parking spaces. I'm some what surprise to see many young workers here, they are respectful and friendly. I will come back more often. read more

Evolution Home is great. They have both consignment and dealer stuff in their gigantic showroom. It is clean and orderly and beautifully laid out. It is pleasant and easy to browse the many dealer areas. Consignment prices drop regularly so if you are willing to take a chance on losing an item you might get a great bargain. Prices can be good anyway. They have furniture, old hats, crockery, china, glassware, jewelry, and more. It is fun and fascinating to shop there and the staff is friendly, helpful and will load your car. read more

As a late 20-something, I've given up expensive weekend bottomless brunch good and now spend my time thrifting and antiqueing (is that a word?). This place looked promising upon entry, however my hope quickly turned to disappointment when I started checking prices. Now, I've been to those antique stores that every item is just beautiful and perfectly cleaned/polished, and the prices reflect that. This wasn't that kind of high end place to reflect the above market value prices. In fact, there was not a single item that I thought was reasonably priced here. I just bought a house, and have a lot of bare walls and room for everything from trinkets to large furniture pieces, so I was looking to spend $. Unfortunately most items were 2-3x what fair value for them would be, and some 4-5x. (Again, I've been antique/thrift shopping A LOT recently, I've got a GOOD grasp on market value). Anyways- it's always fun to look around, and they've got some nice things to window shop, but spend your money elsewhere, and maybe the vendors and consigners here will decide to realistically price their items. read more

I've been curious about this shop for a while, so one day a few weeks ago when the outdoor temp was in the low 90's, I decided to stop in and check it out. Great merchandise, displays and lighting, but so hot inside that I could barely breathe! How on earth could anyone spend any length of time in a place that felt like an oven! The clerk (maybe the owner??) explained that the a/c was on the fritz but that it would be repaired. I went back a few days later and it was the same! This is the type of store that should welcome browsers, but with the stifling heat inside, it was impossible to stay more than a few minutes! The poor salesclerks working there - this has to be a violation of federal or state laws, to expect people to work under those conditions. I probably won't visit this place again! (I wonder if it will be heated in the winter??). read more

This is an unethical business and I would NOT recommend spending your money here. I picked out two chairs that I fell in love with and carried them to the front counter to continue shopping. When I returned to the counter, they had changed the price on the chairs, increasing it by 60%. I am not sure if it's legal to do that, but it is absolutely unethical and I would not recommend giving this place your business. read more

This evaluation is of Evolution Homes Consignment services only. I dropped off twin beds to be consigned last summer. I was told that they would store the beds until they had space on the floor for them and then would notify me when they went out on display. I checked in with them awhile later and they still hand't been put out. I just called them today and discovered that they were put on display in November, but I was never notified. They have 2 weeks left before they are transferred to Evolution Homes inventory. It is a good thing I called when I did because I may have never seen them again. Unfortunately I don't have much time to collect them since I will be out of town on their "expiration" date. If you are thinking of consigning furniture, I recommend you do so elsewhere. read more

Nicely organized and on one level. Does have three or four stairs only in the front. This place is definitely better organized than an antique place down the road and more pleasant to walk through. Nice selection of antiques and the people working were pleasant. Well lit and things were arranged for easy access. Items were reasonably priced. Parking lot is in good shape and has enough parking spaces. Will definitely go back. Easy to get to off Richmond Highway because of nearby traffic light. read more
