The beer pie tees would have belonged in a tasting menu at a Michelin-starred restaurant. It was savory and incredibly addictive. We also had the smoked salmon dranik, and it wasn't any less delicious. My wagyu flat iron was cooked to a perfect medium rare. For dessert, I went with the apple pie(?). It was creative and I enjoyed each bite of it. What looked like an apple on a plate was actually a white chocolate shell encasing an apple pie filling. Over the course of the past decade I have had the opportunity to dine at a handful of restaurants which went on to receive Michelin stars. Dining at Lele gives me the exact same feeling, this is Michelin level food. I can't say that they will ever see a Michelin food critic, because like many of the south bay's dining gems, Lele is located in a strip mall with a Walgreens, Dog Grooming, Dance Studio, Pilates Studio etc. The restaurant is an extension of the bakery next door. Lele is self described as Eastern European food, having spent time in Eastern Europe I recognize many of the dishes as Slavic cuisine only re-imagined as high end California cuisine (Butterbrots (open faced sandwiches), Draniki, preserved fishes, liver mousse etc. My wife and I had the Chicken Liver mousse butterbrot, the bread for this was light and airy with melted butter, garnished with cherries, dill and edible flowers. A Grenik Butterbrot which was herring on buttered rye bread, with sour apple, ginger and picked red onions radish slices and chervil. I have to admit that I am a sucker for chervil, parsley and cilantro's most delicate cousin. It's a hard to get ingredient and when I see it on a plate, it's an indication of the level of commitment that the chef has to their food. The Pommes Dauphine which are like little potato pâte à choux(s), they were incredibly well done with the most creamy decadent mashed potatoes inside. They were served with dill mayonnaise and chervil. Smoked Trout Dranik (potato pancake) which was an incredibly thin potato pancake topped with avocado spread and smoked trout with herbs (Cilantro and Dill) cherry tomatoes and crispy onions served smoked under a cake dome. For main courses we had the Lemon Asparagus Ravioli with Crab and the Fish Schnitzel. The Lemon Asparagus Ravioli had shaved asparagus and parmesan and the Fish Schnitzel (halibut?) came on a bed of ajvar (an Eastern European Eggplant/Pepper/Tomato pesto) with dill mayonnaise and smoked Salmon roe (Ikura/Ikra) and dill, it was served with a small salad with that had rhubarb, grapefruit and fennel which is a nice palate break from the oil in the fish. We had the Apple Cake, which is probably their signature dessert. It's an apple shaped shell over whipped cream, cake and apple compote on a bed of graham cracker crumbles. Overall the meal was absolutely amazing. I would come here for a special occasion birthday, anniversary etc. read more

The cuisine is exquisite, mindfully sourced and presented like a Michelin restaurant while having strong roots in Russian and Ukrainian flavor, there is NOTHING like this around. What an amazing place for dinner! We love the cafe next door for breakfast and go almost every weekend. However the restaurant next door might be even better. The ambiance is super casual and feels like you're eating in someone's living room. All of the food we've had has been amazing, but I especially recommend the dranik and the wagyu flat iron steak. Service has been amazing both times we've been! I don't mind any of the issues we've had (having to move tables & longer than normal wait for food) because they've communicated it to us early on and also gave us free glasses of wine and other snacks. This restaurant feels like it should have a michelin star. The food concept is one of a kind (especially in the Bay Area)-eastern european inspired farm to table. And the execution of that concept is impeccable. Besides getting to try new things (such as Pinecone!) , we also enjoyed the very creative and unique combinations of flavors (such as potato pancake with smoked trout, macarons with goat cheese and smoked salmon, honey thyme ice cream). We went as a party of 6 and ordered many dishes to sample but there are still things on the menu we want to go back to try. Additionally, the parking was easy, the ambience was intimate, cozy and comfortable, and service was attentive and friendly. We cannot wait to go back. This place is a gem ! Staff was so knowledgeable, considerate and welcoming throughout the evening. We ordered and shared a little bit of everything- macaroons, smoked trout, salad, ravioli, steak and salmon.... Each dish was thoughtfully prepared with so much dimension, texture and fresh flavor. Timing between dishes was just about perfect. I'm not quite sure where to start with this review as lelé kitchen defies the typical food review. Let me say that the recent SF Chronicle review of the restaurant doesn't do this place justice. The Blossom Hill Road location is quite unassuming to say the least, but don't be fooled by a book's cover as the saying goes. Do not pass up the oysters! They are presented in a unique and yet simplistic manner, no bed of crushed ice for these succulent beauties which are seasoned way beyond a typical tartar sauce along with horseradish. The Wagyu and halibut entrees were artistically presented along with vegetables which were perfectly prepared. The apple cake is one of those rare desserts that you will remember for its creativity and exquisite tastes. Life is short, eat dessert, and be prepared to be wowed. The service was also very attentive, knowledgeable, and personable. They understand the magic that happens in the kitchen, and they do an excellent job of completing the entire experience. lelé kitchen is destined to be a jewel in the SF Bay Area dining scene! They definitely have some interesting items on their menu but that's where the pros end. Asked them 3 times to turn down the music a bit but never reduced it even a smidgen. Shouldn't have been a problem since aside from one other group (Clearly that group was affiliated with ownership based on the fact their kids could roam the restaurant including coming and going into the kitchen.) we were the only ones there. Staff, so so. Didn't come across as interested in being in the hospitality business or experienced. More like they took the job until they could find something else. Some food items were delivered room temperature. Way over priced. Yes, the Bay Area is sloshing with money but $18 for 1 dinner role made from "100 year old starter." Yes, we bit on the gimmick but when you brought one dinner role and not a basket of bread. C'mon now. Don't insult me. Overall one of the poorest dining experiences we can recall. read more

As a Ukrainian living in California, I approve Lele Kitchen menu and recommend you to make a reservation asap. Everything feels super fresh. The halibut was one of the standouts, perfectly cooked, with peas, wax beans, fennel, and little pattypan squash that somehow all made sense together. The cheesecake is creamy, custardy with this nice toasted edge, and when there's fruit involved, it's always in season and tastes like it belongs there.
