Updating my review…read more Still coming to Chase and his team at Gate Avenue Service - I think we've brought 4 vehicles here now over 10 years. First and most importantly, Chase and his team are honest and hard working. They are extremely busy but always make time to diagnose and give second opinions. They have saved me money and given me solid advice multiple times when dealerships were leaving me astray. Most recently Chase and his team helped me to advocate (aka fight) Hyundai to get a replacement on my engine. Chase provided me all the documentation that Hyundai required not once, but twice, and in paper and in e-mail after Hyundai "misplaced" it. Chase did both of these requests same day. Chase has seen me at my worst (in tears) completely overwhelmed with car stress (and I don't speak car) and also completely flustered trying to explain what felt off with my vehicle when I seriously was not describing it well. The team at Gate is always courteous and treat me and all the customers I have ever seen with respect. The only limitation or downside with Gate is that they are really busy - and for good reason! So you may have to wait a bit for an appointment but they will always treat you right! PS They offer a program to store your tires for you! So I am comfortable in providing an honest and reliable review of this business. All of our dealings during that time have been with this company's first point of customer contact, that being Chase, the Manager. Chase has mastered the art of making clients feel welcome as soon as they enter the premises. I can easily say that Chase has provided top notch,first class customer service to us. I know my wife appreciates always being treated in a courteous and friendly manner. The quality of repair work is at a high standard and the prices are reasonable. The manual said I should get transmission fluid, brake fluid changed, a tune-up, etc. Revolution Motors was recommended to me. The receptionist was efficient, explained the process and told me that when they finished the inspection of the car they would call and let me know the cost, and get approval for the work. They gave me a car to use while mine was in the shop. Long-story short my Forester is in great shape, and they told me that I didn't need to do the scheduled maintenance because everything was great (it is a very low mileage vehicle). Only charged me for the oil change - and gave me a great price. They have definitely won a customer for the future. So glad that the folks on Reddit suggested them. I'll be back as needed.

Autobody shops aren't the kind of place you just wander into and think "hey, I should get some work…read moredone on my car." You go looking when it's necessary, but where do you go? We were referred to Balwin Collision by our insurer and we got lucky. All of our dealings with Balwin Collision were excellent. The manager was very friendly and helpful and helped us through the process in evaluating the damage to our car and getting it fixed. The work on our car was done quickly and everything looks better than before. I know the outside of a car has to be cleaned before painting any of it but our whole car looked like it had a new paint job. It looks great! The last thing I expected was for the car to be cleaned inside but the interior was spotless, even the trunk! I swear they had to have steam cleaned everything. For obvious reasons, I hope I never have to use Balwin Collision's services again, but it is Edmonton after all, so I just might. And if I do need an autobody shop again, I won't hesitate to call these guys.

They are genuinely not happy until you are. Clear explainations of problems, careful tracking of your vehicle history, friendly and skilled staff, willingness to refer you if someone else could do a job cheaper/faster/better. They are particulary good at recommending the cheapest effective options. Once the solution was to hit a part with a wrench; it worked, and they charged me nothing. On a couple of occasions where repairs were not spot-on, they fixed the problem without hesitation. Case in point: I had a starter that chronically failed over a few years. I only paid for it once, but they replaced it and found the root cause of the problem. You owe it to yourself to check them out.

You can almost guarantee you'll have to go back a second time cause either a)the problem wasn't fixed or B) something else just happened to fail as soon as you drive away. Prices have almost tripled in the last 6 months, and sometimes I've seen people waiting 15 minutes before someone even greets them. They order wrong parts or forget to order them complete then lie when questioned about the ETA, passing the blame off. But there's never a shortage of alcohol and cigarettes in the break room, or random alcoholics spouting racist jokes off. One journeyman technician on site out of the 3 that pull wrenches.

On my aunt's recommendation, I brought in my 2002 Durango for a transmission repair. Now she…read moresupposedly has a "relationship" with them due to her company using them a lot. So at least I expected the decent service that I would hope for from anyone. What actually happened was this: I stopped by on a Tuesday to see about an estimate. I waited patiently with my baby for ten minutes while they finished up a phone call. I began telling the manager about my trouble and he took another call, then left me waiting with the baby for another 15 or so, with seemingly no concern and no apology, until he finally got off the phone and addressed us again. He said he wouldn't have time until Thursday, so I said I'd bring it in first thing. On Thursday morning I dropped it off an hour before they opened (I thought I'd have to come back but they were in, so I gave them the key at 7 instead of 8 a.m.). The manager took my number and said he'd call when they had an estimate. Instead they called my aunt (who is, incidentally, a terrible communicator) so I didn't learn that there even WAS an estimate until two days later (now the weekend). My aunt informed us that it would be $2000 and she verbally told them to go ahead with the repair. In my past experience for ANY work this expensive, the owner should be signing off on a detailed written estimate before any work goes ahead. As this is our second vehicle, I tried to be patient when I didn't hear about the repair. On the following Tuesday (yes, we were without the vehicle for 6 days!) near the end of the day when I hadn't heard anything, I finally phoned them myself, and once again, he had phoned my aunt to tell her that it was ready, and of course she hadn't told me. This is why I left MY phone number (you know, the owner of the vehicle!). The end price was $2600, quite far off from the original quote to my mind. The transmission itself was supposedly rebuilt, and it now seems... fine? Maybe? I am not a dab hand with mechanics, hence paying someone else to fix it. It's an old truck so I don't know that anything is supposed to run perfectly anymore. After I got it back, the front heat and defrost were no longer working (back heat is fine). I have no way to know if this is coincidental or if maybe something got bumped while they were in there. Bottom line: they didn't communicate directly, leaving the OWNER of the vehicle out of the loop, and they did not provide a written estimate. On top of that, they increased the price by more than 25% before it was done. All of that I can attribute to the fact that they may have been confused and thought that my aunt was taking care of it more than she was. But getting it back 6 days later (actually, 8 by the end, since we did not have that money just lying around and needed more time to get it together) was completely out of line. In addition, I was largely ignored even in our in-person interactions. All that for a truck that now works... fine? In the future, I'll give them a miss.
