My friends and I were love looking for places that allow for team bonding kind of activities. This week we looked into escape rooms and landed on Legend X because of their interesting rooms. We decided on the Dynasty: Royal Library room and with the 4 of us, we ended up making it out just in the nick of time! The person running the place was very friendly and yes, we did use about a handful of hints. This room was great for beginners like us who wanted to do an escape room but aren't the best at figuring things out. There were some parts of the game that involves Chinese characters but nothing that require you to know or understand the language. Overall, we really enjoyed the game and had a great time playing it. In case you're trying to find it, this location is located at Puente Hills Mall. You should be able to see their giant sign facing outwards towards the parking lot of the mall. (I would even guess that the parking spot they faced is the same as the one from Back to the Future). read more

Wayne was our host and did a great job at navigating a unique experience for us that ultimately went smoothly and would normally be very difficult for most gamemasters. I thought the puzzle design was pretty interesting and made for some difficult but rewarding puzzles that you don't see at other escape rooms. I would recommend trying them out if you haven't yet as this location will probably be closing somewhere between this year and next. We found these to do as a couples escape room and found that the Royal Library room was quite doable with 2 people. The person running the front desk was helpful and we did use a hint or two when we got stuck. One of the props was glitching so we needed the GM to give us the context since the prop wasn't functioning but overall a good experience and even finished the bonus challenge. Just too bad that pandemic did take a toll so parts of the story plot has been scrapped so there doesn't seem like a continuance to the room for now. read more

This was by far one of the coolest escape rooms I've been to. The puzzles were definitely on the harder side, but super fun to work through. The Gamemaster was really friendly and even gave us a peek into the other room. I loved that the themes were so unique - especially the Asian-inspired ones. They even had clothes you could dress up in to really get into character. I'd definitely recommend checking it out. It's such a bummer the mall is going out of business, because this place is a hidden gem. read more

After eating dinner in the area we decided to do an escape room together and this was one that was close by. We did the Royal library which was an interesting twist on how escape rooms are. This room was based on traveling back to ancient China to retrieve a certain artifact, and the theme of the room was very different from any of the rooms we've tried before. When we arrived we were greeted by the game master and we had to sign our waivers and were introduced to our room. Prior to starting escape room we were able to randomly select our roles which played a role in the room. Overall I thought this room was well decorated and had many different types of puzzles that aren't your common lock and key. We had a good time and were able to escape in time. We hope to come back soon to try the other room that they have and the new ones that will be coming out in the next year. read more

One of the most well thought out and technologically advanced escape rooms I've been to! Our party of 7 went with Dragon Tower and it was definitely a challenge! We've all had experience with escape rooms and managed to solve ~90% of this one. It was really a doozy! Lots of collaboration and communication needed. Really loved the small details that this place put into the experience. They had themed costumes that we put on and at the end offered us cute passports, stickers, and printed out a photo for us! The person who guided us was amazing and super patient with us. Really appreciated all the small touches. read more

Our party of 8 tackled the hardest room, the Dragon Tower, and had so much fun! The puzzles are really challenging and you have to work together to get out of your respective room. We only barely got out on time and did use hints. Our game master was also really great! He was very kind, gave just the right kind of hint and was also funny. He was also very patient as we were deciding how to split up our party lol. Another plus is that we had the opportunity to dress up as our respective role which was a great touch. I had never done an escape room before and this was exhilarating!!! My husband and I did it with only the two of us, it is usually recommended for four, but we accomplished it! Wayne greets you at the door and is so fantastic. Wayne is then the guard for the room and he was a great guard! We are given five hints to use throughout the hour and he is great at giving you a nudge in the right direction and not the whole answer. The room is done SO WELL! I am still going over moments in my head and thinking wow they got me there! Wayne let us tour the Dragon Tower that has a difficulty level of hard and requires a minimum of five people so we will be coming back for that one with friends! read more

We played as a group of 4 on Labor Day (thanks for being open!) and it was definitely enjoyable! Some puzzles were a little challenging and some were kind of straightforward. I liked the use of the zodiac animals in the game--maybe would have liked a mini notepad and pencil to take notes with for that part. My boyfriend & I have done a few escape rooms or just us two and have completed them. This was one of the harder escape rooms we've done. Some of the clues are pretty abstract and really require you to think about it. We did the royal escape and enjoyed the theme. Definitely make sure to pay attention to the game masters tip prior to entering your room and the roles & their weapons That's going to be one of the biggest tell and highly important. We were soooo stuck on the first clue - which we absolutely hate haha definitely was enjoyable but we struggled so much on this and completed with 3 minutes to spare (barely). Can't wait to come back and try out their other room. The game master let us know they're also building out another room as well! read more

This place was amazing! The costumes and character "powers" make this super immersive. It was my first time at an escape room and I would definitely come back for another one here. Played Dragon Tower with a group of about 8 people with varying levels of escape room experience and it was a chaotic but fun mess. Puzzles were medium to high difficulty with a few that required substantial collaboration and communication. The set design was fun but mostly number locks, with only a tiny bit of tech involved. I would say do not do this room with anyone that can get easily frustrated or overwhelmed by too many people because it can get crazy. Recommend 8+ players unless you're really experienced. read more

I find it somewhat rare to fail a room and think that was an amazing experience, but the Dragon Tower left me feeling just that. The instructions beforehand are very thorough and the puzzle game play is amazing. I do a lot of room escapes and this one required the most teamwork. My only feedback is that there were so many moving parts and the moderator didn't explain everything at the end. I kind of enjoy that ending walkthrough, especially when not everything was solved. But honestly, the guy was really nice and that isn't too big of a deal. I'll leave my review short as I don't want to spoil anything but if you really like puzzles and want a real challenge, I highly recommend you assemble your best team to tackle the Dragon Tower. read more

I've done dozens of escape rooms while my boyfriend has only done two but we both had an amazing time inside the Royal Library!! I was a little worried about the role playing aspect of it that I was reading about it in other reviews, but luckily it seems to be more or less optional for this room. I did have fun with it while "alone" in the room where, even though I knew someone was watching, I didn't feel as shy roleplaying a little bit. :3 The room logic was straight forward, all the pieces fit, I think, even though we did get stuck at a couple spots. There were a number of what I thought were clever and impressive setups that I haven't seen in other escape rooms. Only complaint was there was a part where the writing was unclear. Thinking about it now, maybe one piece was a red herring... If you get stuck on a symbol lock, don't forget to look for arrows on the lock, lol. I can't believe we overlooked it. The guy watching knew and just told us about the arrows or we would've been there forever. xP (thanks!) Overall, super great! It's probably one of my top 3 escape rooms in terms of difficulty, logic, theme, and overall fun bits. Would recommend! read more

I went with a group of 7. We did Dragon Tower rated SSS. What I enjoyed most was the level of difficulty required from each member to complete their number of clues. Without giving too much away, you do need to work together to solve the puzzle. What I liked most was that each of us were attempting to solve the puzzles. There wasn't a lot of idle waiting and we did have to work together. We definitely will do their next SSS escape room whenever they make a new one. read more

All the reviews are for the Dragon Tower escape room and that escape room does look really exciting. The worker showed us the Dragon Tower escape room after we completed the Dynasty-Royal Library escape room. Our friends and I decided to try the The Dynasty-Royal Library first because we only had 5 people. We would like to try the Dragon Tower next time when we have more people, to have at least 2 people per (separated) room. This is only my 3rd escape room experience but I felt that this escape room had very low production value and the role playing quite unnecessary. We did end up solving and escaping the room, along with the bonus room, but I felt that it was not very linear at all. Not meaning that the clues have to literally jump out at you but it was quite difficult to utilize any clues. A majority of the items in the room were not "movable", as noted by a sticker. Make do with what you find but I found that we had to constantly jump back and forth, back and forth and the clues in the room were not all that helpful. The prize at the end was candy. Would've preferred a sticker or something, more of a keepsake. Hey, who knows. Maybe the Dynasty-Royal Library makes more sense to others but I just did not enjoy it as much as other escape rooms in nearby cities. Prices are reasonable and parking aplenty. There are no restrooms to use so one needs to walk to the Macy's next door. There are lockers for your belongings, especially your phones as they don't want you taking pictures or using your phone for clues. read more

What a creative, interactive and DIFFICULT room! Without spoiling anything, a group of 5 (max 10) is separated into archer, sorcerer, alchemist, knight and thief and locked into 5 separate rooms. If you are afraid of the dark, avoid sorcerer. You then have to work together to escape your own room, and then the main room together. There are soo many puzzles and locks to get through, and they are very creative! Difficulty: 5 stars (20% escape rate) Tip: After you get out of your room, work on your own individual puzzles to save time. read more

Dragon tower Origin. Oh my god. It's so hard. Extra extra teamwork needed. This is probably the hardest escape room I've ever done. Everyone will do something to contribute to the escape. Everyone are locked in different rooms with different puzzles, but you're not the key to your room..you'll need your kins. Sooo many puzzles (A LOT) and technology. 6186382 hints needed (mirror mirror on the wall PLEASE HELP US). We have to add extra time (30minutes) to get out lol. Have to pay for the extra time though. If you want to challenge yourself and your teammate I recommend this place. Love the costumes and the production value. And the weapons! Use them! Game master is amazing. First time here and we had a great experience. I've done a lot of escape rooms and personally don't like it when the puzzles are just a series of various locks. This room was well adorned, felt pretty immersive & the puzzles were a perfect combination of locks and interactive triggers. We literally geeked out every time we figured something out and revealed another clue so it kept us well-entertained. Would highly recommend! The Royal Library is a great room for beginners and families. Can't wait to go back and try other rooms! read more

I did the dragon tower room with a group of 7 people. I've done a few escape rooms including this one, this was my least favorite so far. Its not bad but I would recommend other escape rooms before this one. Your group is split until 5 rooms so you need minimum 5 people. But even with the minimum of 5 people the space will feel cramped as a lot of the game takes place in a small hallway and you're constantly going in and out of doorways. The reason I don't like is as I think the puzzles are little disorganized and you don't have enough time. Its one thing to be difficult...its another thing just to give you 2 hours of work to do in 1 hour of time. They say teamwork is needed. What they mean is you might wait in a room with basically no puzzles to solve and just wait 20 minutes for a teammate to come rescue you. The clues I don't feel are are very intuitive. You will have a bunch of stuff thrown at you with no way knowing if you're supposed to do something with it now, or if its meant to be used later. But the game doesn't give you enough opportunity to figure out what to do first. Again...a lot of just waiting around for your teammates to solve something. This game is very reliant on everybody working well. If you have even person new to escape room it slows everyone. In fact we broke the game because one person accidently dropped a tool and couldn't retrieve it, that delayed game for everyone and the employee had to come in and just randomly open up a room. The employee was very nice, service was good. I do love how you can reserve a room and pay for 5 ppl, but if you bring more you can pay for the rest then (without having to have the exact number up front). Overall its a fun experience but when you're paying so much for an escape room and there are so many really really great options out there, I would not recommend this place. edit: To the owner, thank you for taking the time to reply, but the group you are talking about was not mines. We didn't break a lock, we did receive a walkthrough (which I really appreciated), I did this with a group of 7, not 5. You said its possible for any person to exit their individual room first. I don't want to spoil things but not sure if this is the case for the sorceror. If it is is possible then it is very impractical for this person to escape first. Although every individual has their own puzzles to solve, a lot of the puzzles requires the individual to travel back and forth among the rooms. This causes a jam on the hallway and doorways. read more

Been to 30+ escape rooms in the SoCal area and Legend X's Dragon Tower ranks in my top five. It is pure fun, soars in imagination, has some beautiful surprises, and a couple nifty tricks to behold. Pros: high quantity of puzzles to solve in an hour's time and in varying difficulties, great use of mechanical and electrical tech throughout room, charming fantasy theme and a cohesive storyline Could be improved: the decor in a couple rooms is sparse. Some other rooms I've been to have had higher (Hollywood-level) production quality. Music playing was the same movie-suspense track over and over again. Would be nice to have different music as the hour progressed. If you've been to The Hex room in Anaheim, this place is a similar kind of setup with the separate rooms and roles, which really get you pumped, and make the whole experience more thrilling than the average escape room. Similarly, Dragon Tower escape success relies on good communication with your team. Lastly, am so appreciative to Legend X for doing a fantasy theme and not a horror one!! (Thank you, thank you!). The staff was super friendly and had a good sense of humor. The atmosphere was inviting and game props were top notch. However, I guess I'm not a huge fan of the Dragon Tower game design. It definitely heavily emphasized teamwork and communication as other reviews indicate, but there are too many linear dependencies. Considering that each member start in separate rooms and some rooms are meant to be broken out of first, it quickly becomes confusing and hectic for the people who weren't included in the initial conversations. Therefore, it's not just another room for a casual group of friends, but a team that probably needs a coordinated method of management, like the team needs to decide beforehand how to get everyone up to speed and so on. Otherwise, some members might be left solving dead-end puzzles in their rooms when they are actually intermediate steps of puzzles that begin in another room. This isn't inherently bad necessarily, but it definitely requires teams with a matching expectation, and I guess it exposed the weakness in ours. I can see that depending on the team constitution, this might be a very rewarding experience, or a very frustrating experience. Be warned. We had fun overall. We're capable of taking a loss and I personally learned a lesson about how to coordinate better in the future. This would probably be an excellent team building exercise for the office. read more

Just finished the royal library for a friend's birthday. We had 4 players. I've played a few different types of escape room games and from different companies. This one I recommend because even though the theme is a ancient Chinese library, they provide clues that are bilingual so all can enjoy. Will return with more friends for the bigger room. read more

We had a great time doing the dragon tower escape with a party of 8. The puzzles were not tediously or unnecessarily complicated but were pretty logical, did require a lot teamwork, communication and attention to detail. The initial split into 5 individual rooms was particularly novel and really ensured that everyone on the team participated. The gamemaster was awesome, both in securing us a last minute slot, as well as during gameplay. He even went above and beyond with a birthday treat at the end. Wonderful experience!
