I am new to selvedge and Japanese fabrics. Christian answered all of my questions and walked me through the types of fabrics, dyes, cuts, mills, and stitch work that goes into a solid pair of pants. His passion for high quality clothing was refreshing; I wish more business owners took their craft as seriously and with as much care as he does. Just as an example, he traveled to a remote Irish Mill he discovered that was making wool fabrics in a way that impressed him. So he went out there to check out their work and process before bringing their products back for his shop. He worked with me for hours until we got the perfect pants for me. He must have went through a dozen pairs before he got it just right for my body type. The best part was that I never felt like I burden. It felt like he just wanted me to get into a pair of pants that I truly loved. And I ending up walking out with two pairs of pants that I can't wait to wear. A Unique , Fun , Original store in the middle of Ridgewood (quick M ride) They have the QUALITY and at very fair prices . But the most important thing is that THEY CARE AND LOVE WHAT THEY DO! I got couple of jeans and they weren't fit , at the store i was able to exchange and got one delivered to me after alteration (no extra cost) They have very good website but i think that being in the store is something that you will appreciate . I picked up the 13 oz. Cone Mills Chelsea jeans from here a short while back to snag a piece of denim history after the closing of the White Oaks plant. I've had very pleasant interactions with the owner Christian in answering questions about the fit and determining what size I would need. All the employees were very friendly and I enjoyed my visit to the shop. That being said, I had my jeans hemmed in store and the results were less than great. the legs came up different lengths and the hems themselves were uneven (pictured below). Once I brought this to Christian's attention he would not let me exchange them but (to his credit) did offer to rehem them. Unfortunately the jeans were already hemmed shorter than I would've liked so hemming them again would make them unwearable. Left Field makes good jeans and Christian is very helpful with sizing and material questions but if you botch a simple hem job and refuse to exchange then I will be taking my business elsewhere in the future. read more

These guys are the best in sourcing classic and modern materials, and reinterpreting classic wear wear styles for modern men. I popped in after work a few weeks ago to pick up some heavy black jeans to break-in for winter and sure enough with their help I found myself walking out with 18.5oz jeans that (as I'm writing this) broke in perfectly in time for the temperature drop! Additionally they provide Darning service that I took advantage of...and couldn't be happier with! Less than 24 hours turnaround, and the damage is impossible to appreciate given how expertly the repair work was done. This has become my go-to brand for denim. I'm 6'0 210 and have pretty big legs and the Charles atlas and greaser fits are so perfect. Like any raw denim it's a labor of love breaking them in, but Left Fields jeans are so worth it when those fades appear. I lucked out as a shop in Calgary carries them otherwise I would have never found these guys. Do yourselves a favor and pick up some black Maria's, seriously the nicest, most durable and most fade worthy black jeans going. My new favorite jeans, the Greaser 16 oz Neppy, slubby extra long staple cotton denim. If you like the look and feel of raw, selvedge denim, these will be one of your go to jeans. They are Goldilocks, not too loose, not too tight. The denim shows a bit of the white cotton threads; a nice look. Perfectly tailored, they are flawless; not even a loose thread from when they were manufactured. (Of course, this is standard for Left Field.) BTW, if you don't like the look and feel of raw, selvedge denim, what is wrong with you. If you have never owned, but are considering, look to Left Field first. This place has been on my list for a while and was finally able to make it since they're open on Saturdays now. I've been through a lot of the major selvedge denim stores and brands over the past decade or so. So far, nothing compares to Left Field. All the fine details are there, from the vintage buttons, contrast button holes, solid stitching, unique pockets that you can actually get your hands into, and so much more. I'm a tall guy with big legs and boy did they nail it with the Atlas fit. I've been looking for something like this for ages. It's refreshing to see a brand care so much about their product. Definitely worth stopping in, even if it's just to chat with the owner, Christian and let him drop some knowledge on you. read more

They carry nothing but quality. Picked up a pair of Nihon Menpu 15 oz. blue-grey jeans. Rolls up very nicely. I have to say that their darning service is top notch. It gave new life to my old jeans. They have nice shirts as well. I got a hemp/organic cotton blend blue striped pocket tee-shirt. I bought two because once a run is done, they're usually gone. I'll keep one on the side, so that once my other shirt is done for, I'll have another to enjoy. They carry things that I can appreciate. This place is a real find. I have become a return customer. Cant say enough good things about these guys. Foremost, bought two pairs of denim. One indigo cone mills 17 oz greaser cut in a 35 and another black maria 14.5 oz chelsea cut in a 36. Both fit and lie fantastic. i'm 6 ft 190lbs. did not hem. Haven't had long enough to comment on fades but the jeans, in addition to lie, are of great quality and reasonable price. Secondly, the owner, Christian and his colleague Jonny (i believe) are super cool. they offered me a drink and we shat the sh* for about half an hour. Quite honestly don't foresee myself going anywhere else for my raw selvege denim again in the future. read more

My first visit out to Left Field in Ridgewood (10 stops on the L from Union Sq.) was a bit disorienting, however, upon my second, third, and fourth visit to the neighborhood, found it to be an exciting and stimulating adventure, and quite welcoming. Once there, in what passes for a store, but feels more like the atelier of an iconoclastic, creative entrepreneur, one is surounded by an inviting selection of the highest quality denim and accessories to be found anywhere. The construction, design, and fit of the their jeans is impeccable. In either the Chelsea or Greaser style, whether Cone Mills or Japan denim, the comfort level is second to none.The only negative consequence of buying your first pair is that it will most likely result in multiple purchases boardering on addiction.
