DO NOT go to Lee's Tailors!!! I took my brand new wedding dress (that I paid over $2,000 for) to get minor adjustments. I just needed the straps of the dress to be shorter and for the tulle/lace in the front to be replaced with fabric from the dress. First, they lost the replacement fabric I provided. Next, they cut the straps of the dress dramatically and changed the entire structure of the dress to an unwanted empire waist dress! After crying in the store from being groped (yes, groped) and gaslit by the rude staff, they promised to correct their mistake and for me to come back. After coming back two more times (each the dress straps were not adjusted as requested), they let out the bust of the dress. This was not requested at all and now my perfect dress is a complete disaster! The staff at Lee's Tailors managed to destroy not only the dress but the vision for my wedding. After going back and forth to them FIVE times, I managed to get my dress from them. Now, I have to either purchase a replacement dress or find another seamstress all before my wedding in three weeks!! I'm completely screwed and left scrambling! I would've been better off altering the dress myself. read more

Last week I took three dresses to this tailor for alteration. One simply needed to be hemmed to a shorter length, one needed to be shortened and have a decorative border removed in that process, while one required an alteration to the sleeve. I did not try on two of the three dresses for the tailor because I did not feel it was necessary. They simply needed to be shortened, and I specifically stated that I wanted them shortened by 5 inches. The lady working with me did not measure or mark 5 inches on the fabric, she simply guesstimated and stuck a straight pin in the dress to indicate where the fabric was to be cut. She also did not write down my instruction of 5 inches in the notes that she took. When I picked up the dresses, one of them had been shortened by at least a foot, and the other by at least 10 inches. It is absolutely ridiculous to me that such an error in measurement could have been made. I am partially at fault for this, because I did not try the dresses on and let her pin up the hem to the length that I desired. I did not do so because I am currently wearing a full-length leg brace and using a walker while recovering from knee surgery, which would have made changing clothing and stepping up on their pedestal difficult for me. I thought that the clear and precise direction cutting and hemming the dresses to be five inches shorter would be sufficient. The second of those two dresses had a decorative border around the bottom of the skirt that I did not like. I asked that it be completely removed when the dress was shortened. The lady smiled and nodded to indicate that she understood my request, but she did not write my instructions down. The border was not removed as I had requested . Instead, the fabric was cut above the border, the dress shortened, and the decorative border sewn back on. Again, I blame this mistake on the fact that the instructions that I gave were not written down. I blame the language barrier for this. Don't come at me with unwarranted accusations of xenophobia when I say this. I am a die-hard liberal and do not stand for any sort of xenophonic nonsense. I am simply stating that the language barrier contributed to my instructions not being followed, and that the tailor did not make detailed notes of my instructions because she simply did not understand what I was saying, although she nodded and smiled as if she did. I'm not sure I can even describe the mess that was made of the sleeve alteration that I requested. (I DID try this dress on to show the tailor what I wanted altered because it had a fuller skirt that I could wear over my leg brace without having to remove it, and I did not need to step onto the pedestal because the alteration was to the sleeve, not the overall length of the garment.) The dress had a very short ruffled cap sleeve that I felt was too voluminous, and I requested that the ruffle be detached, excess fabric be removed, and then the ruffle be reattached, so that the sleeve lay closer to my arm and not be as poofy. The lady pulled the fabric taunt to make the ruffled sleeve smaller as I had requested, nodding to indicate that she understood. Again, she made no written notes, but I thought that she had indicated that she understood my request. When I picked up the dress, the fabric had simply been pulled taunt and tacked without the excess fabric being removed, creating two separate armholes on each side. It was absolutely ludicrous that anyone could possibly think that that was what I wanted. It boggles the mind. Thankfully, at least the fabric of that dress was not cut, so the stitches that this tailor made can be picked out and the alteration done correctly elsewhere. I did not try on the dresses when they were picked up from the tailor, in fact I did not even pick them up myself, due to the mobility issues I am having post knee surgery, which prevents me from driving. So I I was not aware of the mistakes that were made until the alterations were already paid for and the dresses were already removed from the premises. Not that it would have helped in the case of the two dresses that were incorrectly shortened and hemmed, since the fabric was cut and the excess likely disposed of. Perhaps the third dress with the incorrect sleeve alteration could have been redone by that tailor, but if my wishes were not understood the first time, I honestly don't think a second repetition and demonstration would have helped much. The cost of these alterations, having two dresses hemmed and altering the sleeve of a third, was over $100. Two of the three dresses were completely ruined. I am therefore out over $500, the price of the clothing in addition to the cost of these bad alterations. I strongly suggest to anyone who needs alterations made to an expensive or irreplaceable item that they avoid this business and take the clothing to a tailor where English is fluently spoken and understood, in order to avoid the destruction of the item. read more

I do not recommend Lee's Tailor in Southpoint Mall. They will tell you they can do the work just to get your money. They overpromised and underdelivered. I took my daughter's mermaid-style dress in to be altered because she wanted it to hug her body properly. They assured us they could do it. After two failed attempts, instead of being honest from the beginning and saying they couldn't achieve the look, they basically did what they felt was "good enough" and then told us there was nothing more they could do. We left unhappy and completely unsatisfied with the work. Money wasted. Businesses should not take advantage of people like that. Very disappointing experience. read more

I used to come to Lee Tailor regularly to have my conference dresses altered and always had good experiences, which makes this visit even more disappointing. I brought in a black dress that needed to be taken in on the sides and significantly shortened because it was extremely long. Instead of following my request, they only trimmed a small amount off the length, and it honestly looks like they only adjusted the back while leaving the front looking unfinished. The dress no longer resembles the fit it had in the original before-and-after expectations. The biggest surprise was the price. I was charged $109 for these alterations. A very similar dress I had tailored here previously cost around $35-40, so the increase was shocking. When I asked why it was so expensive, I received only a brief explanation that didn't justify the cost. When I tried the dress on before leaving, I expressed that I was unhappy with the length and how it looked from the front. Instead of addressing my concerns, I was told to come back wearing the heels I planned to wear with the dress, and if it was still too long, they could look at it again. To make matters worse, while I was waiting for assistance after trying it on, I felt ignored as staff helped other customers despite me being next. Overall, I'm deeply disappointed in both the quality of the alterations and the customer service. This did not feel like $109 worth of work, and I left feeling overlooked. Lee's rocks. One of the long running tailor shops here in Durham located in South Point mall. Lee's is easiness enough to get into with ample parking around the mall. I recently went there to have them fix a zipper on a hoody of mine that I've had forever but has remained in great condition outside of the zipper. They were able to replace the zipper and breath new life into this favorite item of mine. Their turn around time was very quick (they do offer rush orders) and their staff is super friendly. This is one of the few places where I feel like their level of detail and service warrants their prices. If you are looking for a quality tailor in Durham this is the place to go. read more

I took one suit jacket to this place because it sits conveniently in the mall....Use this business at your own risk. Have them write down what your price is before leaving you garments. I went into Lee's to have a bridesmaid dress altered for a wedding I was in. The dresses the bride requested us to order were from a site in Australia that required their customers to pay a fee to return the dress so my best bet was for me to get alterations done to the dress. I needed thicker straps added to the dress and an additional seam because I am busty. And well for all of my busty women who can relate, sometimes the item fits everywhere except your boobs. So the first disappointment from Lees came from when I originally went into the store to tell the seamstress what I needed she asked me could I take the dress back to get a bigger size. Now I'm no rocket scientist however I do believe if returning the dress was in fact a more feasible option I would've done just that. But it wasn't so that's what brought me there. The next disappointment was, I was told that I had to provide my own fabric, bring it back and they could make the alterations. An inconvenience for sure considering I have very little knowledge on fabric but sure I'll do it because again, I'm a bridesmaid in a wedding. So I go, get fabric, come back, try on the dress and we decide, a one inch seam added to the dress and one inch straps. I come back to pick up the dress (and of course the wedding was during prom season, no fault of my own) there's a line out the door, I get to the front, they hand me my dress (no try on, no conformation that the dress was completed how I needed, nothing) I pay and move on. I leave for the wedding in two days, it's the day of the wedding and my dress is NOW too big. There was in fact not a one inch seam added to the dress but in fact TWO one inch seams added to the dress. When I called to notify the store manager or owner of the issue, no one answered so I left a voicemail. Here we are 4 months later with no resolution from the store owners or managers. I'm not from NC but all the locals say "Lees is the best" and sadly I didn't experience anything of that sort. read more

This place is a rare gem. They have excellent customer service for repairs and walk ins. We have used this spot over the years a few times and they do not disappoint. My wife took in a wool sweater for repair on Friday morning. We were only in town until Sunday. The store took the sweater, repaired it, found and repaired two other small holes and it was ready for pick up on Saturday afternoon. A hidden gem inside of South Point Mall! I would've never discovered it if wasn't for Yelp. The folks here are kind and great at what they do! The prices are also affordable. I had to trim the length of 2 pairs of pants, which cost me $18. I wished I knew earlier about this location! I look forward to getting my pants and suits fitted hear again. Simple process -- when you arrive, you're assigned to one of the dressing rooms to try on your clothes, someone will be waiting for you when you come out and do all of the measurements, take a ticket and let them know when you need it by. read more

I went here for years. Not only took dry cleaning but also alterations. I had never questioned a bill--the ONE time I asked to go over my bill to understand the astronomical charges, the main cashier/shop owner got extremely nervous, upset, and combative. It was like she was offended that someone would ask for her to explain what the charges were. She was not answering my questions and the more she recalculated my pieces, the more expensive it got. I finally just gave in and paid what she asked for so I could leave without the situation escalating. I realized at home that I had been charged for three items that were not cleaned, and I was charged for work I didn't ask to be done on a top. I will never return. There is absolutely no reason that asking to review a $125 bill should upset a shop owner. That reaction was suspicious and uncalled for. When I was there, someone was complaining about a silk dress that had been ruined, and there was complete chaos in the shop. I left and came back when things calmed down to discuss my bill (plus they had to fix a mistake). This shop is convenient because of the location, but not worth the hassle and disregard for customers. read more

As a bride not used to getting major alterations done for a formal dress, I was glad when someone recommended Lee's to me, thinking it was a slam dunk. Unfortunately, it was a terrible experience. I walked in to the proprietors arguing with a customer who was unhappy with the quality of service received. Instead of working with her to resolve the issue, they kept blaming her for their shoddy workmanship until she left. I should have taken that as my warning sign to leave as well! I had my dress hem taken up, the bodice taken in, and a hook added so the bustle could be pinned up after the ceremony. When I returned, the bodice had giant, awkward gaps in it, and they had forgotten to add the bustle hook. I was told, "We'll add it, come back in 20 minutes." They added a single hook and eye for a heavy bustle. I should have said something, but again, I have never gotten major alterations done, and I assumed everything would be okay. I was charged upwards of $500 for these alterations. On the day of my wedding, my bridesmaids realized that the bodice gaps were even worse than I'd thought. Luckily, one of them saved the day by fitting me with her push-up bra, but the bodice did not fit as it had before I'd gotten it altered. The dress was too long and people kept stepping on it during my walk down the aisle and dancing. The worst part, though, was that the hook and eye they'd added in 20 minutes (after they forgot) broke off before I'd even made it down the aisle. My bridesmaids and wedding coordinator had to do multiple emergency fixes with safety pins during cocktail hour and dancing, and as a result, I missed several special moments I really wanted to enjoy with guests. My dress is now ripped, and I can't believe I paid $500 for these train wreck alterations. I would go back and complain, but I know they'd argue and yell at me like they did with the customer I saw originally, and nothing would get resolved. I am getting married next week, and didn't have a dress to wear. My mom offered her dress from almost 30 years ago. I wanted to have it tailored to fit me, and my mom recommended this place to me. A few week ago I brought it here. I was nervous because the dress was not flattering on me at all, very outdated, and there were a few things I wanted done to make it look nicer for me to wear in 2021. They did AMAZING. I went back to pick it up and almost cried because they brought my vision to life. There were a few things that still weren't 100% right and they fixed it at no extra cost. The cost wasn't bad given the fact that they did a lot to this dress. I think the price was fair. They worked with what they had and gave me a beautiful dress to marry my fiancé in. Measurements for adjusting my dress pants was fast and my pants were finished by the date that I told them.

I had three collared shirts bottom hemmed such that they could be untucked or tucked. It was cut shorter than I asked, and there was no material left within the fold as I had asked to potentially fix. It has effectively ruined my three best shirts. I write this incredibly frustrated and wish I had never attempted this bit of tailoring or had measured myself and just handed the shirt with the safety pins already inserted. Respectfully, the woman working spoke little to no English so explaining how I wanted it to look was very difficult. read more

I recently got alterations to a wedding dress here. I'll be brief, three main problems: 1)They dramatically over-charged me. My dress is super simple, only 2 layers of fabric, and they charged $300 to hem it. When I asked why, they said it was because it's a wedding dress, so they put their best people on the job. The dress was $75 to begin with (bought it from Lulu's, highly recommend) so I thought it was crazy that alterations cost so much. A friend had recommended Lee Tailor's to me because she got a bridesmaid dress altered there for $70 and it had at least twice as much fabric, so they definitely upped the price because of the "wedding" label and not based on the amount of work they did. 2) They noticeably messed up the hem of my dress. After shortening the dress, they added a piece of lace trim to the bottom and ran out of material half way through. Instead of ordering more (or asking me to provide more) they decided to use scraps of the lace ribbon they had cut and ended up sewing the scraps on upside down. So half of the hem had a scalloped edge of lace and the other half has the spikey version of the lace (see pictures). 3) When I asked them to fix the hem, and when I wanted to discuss how much they had charged overall, I couldn't get a word in. They said they would only fix the hem if I bought more material and paid them more money (doesn't sound fair to me) and again, I just couldn't get a word in. They were interrupting me left and right and were not listening to a word I was saying. I even came back and brought a bridesmaid with me to help me advocate, but it did no good. They said "that's how it is, we can't fix it". Also worth mentioning, I never had a chance to ask for a price quote. When I first brought my dress in, they had me try it on and immediately started marking on my dress with pink marker. Originally I was planning to get quotes from several tailors before making a decision, but then suddenly there was pink marker on my dress so I thought "I guess my business is yours now". I really really regret letting them touch my dress before they gave me a price estimate. read more

I've utilized this business for years. I've recommended their services to many friends. But today, I felt like I had an out-of-body experience. I walked in, entered my name in the computer, and just waited to someone to finally recognize me. I put on the item to be altered and stood outside to be pinned and the gentleman who came in after me came out and was helped before me. I asked if there's a protocol as to who's next, and literally, no one responded to me. I continued to stand there for a couple of minutes until I decided to leave. Why was I completely ignored? Lee's is one of the ONLY spots I will take my clothes and things when I need them tailored. The turn around time is always great. The team of seamstress do a great job. The prices are high... I've spent as much as $110 to have a 2piece suit altered. Now mind you that included everything from shoulder pad swaps to taking in the suit. The work is amazing and when you get your product you see why you spend so much. You really do pay for what you get and if you want it done right the first time, come see Lee's. Update: I just now tried the jacket with my dress, and it is unusable! I am unable to steam out the shiny flat places where they used an iron on velvet, and the darts stick out in back because they were not tapered properly. I can't believe I wasted $70 on this. Downgraded to two stars. I gave three stars because they did the alterations, and promptly, and my jacket does fit better than it did, although not exactly the way I had envisioned. Also they did a prompt and free re-do when the hem was uneven on one side. (although you would think a tailor would do a hem right the first time...) But: She rushed me through the fitting and didn't really let me tell and show her the adjustments I wanted, to be sure we were on the same page. And after the alterations, when I was pointing out the dip in the hem on one side, she didn't listen or let me look at it, just said, "Don't move! Don't move!" as she marked the jacket. Perhaps she was being efficient, but it came off as brusque and rude. Then, when they fixed the hem, they press-ironed the hem of my velvet jacket, leaving it flat and shiny. I had asked when I first called if they had experience working with velvet and they assured me they did. No one with experience with velvet would have done that! And to add insult to injury, when I pointed out the large shiny spot, she said that you couldn't notice it if you just looked at it from another oblique angle! No apology, no offer to make it right. read more

Honestly, I went here because of the good reviews and long hours. What a true disappointment. They charged me $28 to put in a cheap metal eyelet and hook. I could have done that myself. Sometimes, like auto shops, you really have to ask specifically, so what are you exactly going to do? How much are you going to charge me for that? When can I expect to get it back? They were timely, it took a day, but it was a very simple task. I wish I knew that was their solution and I would have not taken it there. Maybe they're better at serious alterations, or complicated things you can't do yourself. This was the equivalent of sewing on a button. I think a charge of $28 is too steep. read more

Rude, rushed and terrible job. I came here to get my work pants hemmed because they were too long. He asked me to stand on the small step so that he could pin the length down. When I asked him if he could do just a little bit higher because my pant shoes were flat, he scoffed, rolled his eyes and mumbled under his breath. I let that slide, but the next week the hem had fallen out. I went to get it done and they were so rude again. Well this is the second time the hem has fallen out and when I noticed it in detail, it was so sloppy. Don't even bother coming here. They are champions at wedding dresses. Give them time in advance before you alter and if you plan on losing weight go closer to the month of your wedding. Hands down most pleasing experience I've ever had with customer service in all of my wedding planning! I needed my dress hemmed and fitted and they fixed it perfectly, even giving it a light steaming to help bring out some of the wrinkles!! My wedding had me stressed and I dropped two sizes between the time I had it altered and the week of my wedding. Tight time frame? They are so great, they fixed it in a week!! Saved me so much stress and time trying to get it done else where. Not to mention I forgot to have the bustle put in and the sweet manager had it done while I was at my rehearsal for the wedding the night before! This was my favorite tailor. I have enjoyed their quick same day service for the last 3 years. Last year I had bought an outfit, and had to take it in for alterations. The vision the seamstress had for the alterations were phenomenal and I felt like a Queen during the event I had bought the apparel for. Earlier this year, I had decided to work on losing weight, I have lost 27 pounds and have 15 more to go. There are some clothing I have bought that I have had to have tailored because of the weight loss, others because I am in between sizes and some items I need tailoring for that. This past weekend, I went to pick up items I had tailored. On one of the items, they forgot to part of the alteration request. Instead of the seamstress saying "my apologies, let us get that done for you," she instead said "you eat too many fries, you need to stop eating." This was said in front of other patrons, and I was extremely embarrassed. I went in the room to change, and grab my items. I became tearful and I did share with the seamstress that what she said was hurtful. She tried to dismiss it by saying she too needed to not eat to lose weight, and I told her it was already said and it was wrong, embarrassing, unprofessional, and that she didn't know my story and my efforts. She apologized, still charged me full price even though they didn't do the alterations in its entirety. I left there embarrassed and ended up throwing the unfinished dress away outside of the mall. Different buttons. They put DIFFERENT BUTTONS ON MY JACKET. 3 of 5 are individual buttons that don't match the others. It's like some kind of joke and a complete waste of time and money as I'm going to have to have it redone. That really says it all. I took a big winter coat in with all the buttons but one missing, and she talked to me about seeing if she could find the same, and if not, replacing them all. Sounds good, sure. And I picket it up yesterday, and the workmanship was... meh, but fine. They didn't leave enough space between fabric and buttons for them to button up without straining the fabric, which I kind of am more annoyed now that I've left too, but then I needed buttons and they only charged me $10, so ok. But. BUT. Then I get home and only 2 out of the 5 buttons match. Like... who does that?! Isn't that like the first thing you'd look at, that you actually have enough buttons - that you're putting the same buttons on every space?! Anyway... never again, and a complete waste of time and money as I'm going to have to have it redone. read more
