After more than 10 years of using Advance Tailors in Brier Creek, I have finally reached the point where I will be taking my business elsewhere. Over the years, I have brought them multiple suits annually because I like my suits tailored to fit a certain way. My work requires me to wear suits regularly, so tailoring is not occasional for me; it is a necessity. Unfortunately, recent experiences have made it difficult to continue supporting this business. My biggest concerns are inconsistent pricing, overpricing, and poor communication. On one visit, a hem may cost one price, and the next time the price is different. Recently, I brought in three suits, one of which needed to be rushed. I was charged $40 for the rush service, which I paid because I needed the suit quickly. The following month, however, the price had doubled. I also often wear three-piece suits and like to have a pocket added to the vest. This time, I was quoted $50 to add one pocket using leftover fabric from the pants. I pointed out that just a few months earlier, the same alteration had cost $35, which I gladly paid. This time, I declined. The last straw came when I was told that two of my suits would be ready on May 2. When I arrived, the pants were not ready. I was told the pins had fallen off and that I needed to try them on again to be measured. In a very casual and dismissive manner, I was told to wait 15 minutes and the pants would be ready. I waited. As I was leaving, the gentleman attempted to give me $5 for the inconvenience--after I had spent $395 to have three suits altered. After more than a decade as a loyal customer, that was disappointing. They have seen me for the last time. I will be looking for another professional tailor--preferably one with clearly posted prices and more consistent customer service. I am not sure what has changed at Advance Tailors, but it feels as though their success may have gone to their heads. Think twice before using them. This is by far the worst tailor in the Triangle area. I've used them several times over the years--at least a dozen--and every single experience has been disappointing. Their pricing is inconsistent and seems to change depending on who you are or how they're feeling that day. As well as items not being seamed together and matched properly. I'm always asked to stay and wait and sit longer or to come back later that day or another day and they still don't provide a discount despite their errors. Most recently, I brought in four small blankets to be stitched together. Each blanket only cost me about $5. At the time of drop-off, they told me they were too busy to give a quote, so I specifically asked them to call me with the price before starting work. I never received a call, voicemail, or any form of communication. When I returned, I was shocked to be told the total was $74--more than three times what I paid for all the materials combined. When I questioned it, the owner lied & insisted he had called me, which simply isn't true. Then instead of addressing the issue professionally, he became dismissive, telling me it was "in the past" and brushing off my concerns. Any time I tried to explain how inappropriate and frustrating the situation was, he acted like he didn't understand me like he didn't understand English, which made the interaction even more upsetting. I would strongly recommend taking your business elsewhere. There are plenty of tailors who are more transparent, professional, and respectful of their customers. I am a transplant from NY (& used to the higher pricing there), but I was taken back by a $35 charge to shorten & hem a skirt. The price was bad enough, but when I picked it up, it wasn't even pressed! It was just folded over on the hanger - which btw made it difficult for them to find! read more

Quality service and timely alterations. My alterations are always done within a short period. We all know it's best to go early, but sometimes we have time constraints, and Advance Tailors always honor my request. The staff here are very polite and accommodating. I would not dare take my suits, gowns, and dresses anywhere else. The best! read more

I walked in this establishment one weekday evening. As I strolled in, I read the hours on the door and as soon as I walked in, I saw a clock on the wall. It was 10 minutes past closing time. A gentleman came from the back and asked what I needed. I showed him my pants that had a 2 inch rip in the seam. He took a look at it, and then looked up at the lock and he realized it was after closing time but said "if you pay $7 cash, I can do it now." I was shocked. I thought I was going to have to leave it there overnight. But I went back to my car to get cash and when I came back 3 minutes later, the job was complete. read more

Shady business alert. Very poor customer service. Owner wanted payment in advance ( hence the name) Would not take debit or credit although they advertised they take MasterCard and Visa. Cash only. I took a designer coat to have sleeves shortened. She topstitched the hems instead of tailor stitching. Cheapened the coat's look and value. After they got their money they forgot how to speak English. Avoid! read more

I recently had four pairs of pants hemmed at this tailor. One pair was still too long when I got them home so I had to take them back. Two of the other pairs have already had their hem to fall out so I had to take them back. They are also ridiculously overpriced and take A WEEK to hem pants. Literally. It is very frustrating that I paid so much and have had to go back multiple times to have them fix their shoddy work. I wish I could give them zero stars. read more

I have never been disappointed. I have had several clothes altered here and they do a fantastic job and are reasonably priced. I am of short stature, which requires me to get all of my clothes tailored (hemmed, tapered, and you name it) and I can attest that the value from Advance Tailors is hard to beat. All I recommend is that you tell them exactly how you want it. If it feels too tight when they are pinning it, then let them know. They are easy to work with and have always delivered for me. read more

I have been visiting this tailor shop for over 3 years now and it is an awesome place. I have never found such a place that treat you like family give you the best advice on how to alter your clothes. I have taken dresses, dress pants and jeans to this tailor to be taken in because they were too loose and the tailor did a wonderful job, You cannot tell that they were altered. I have also had pants hemmed and jeans cut and they looked wonderful. Both my sister and brother in law are big fans of this tailor. I will not go anywhere else to have any of my clothes altered. I took my bridesmaid dress to a tailor at Crabtree (you know which one I'm talking about) and before I even told the lady where I needed the dress taken out she tells me, "No, no room..." Disheartened, I went to orange julius for a "pick me up ice cream fix" and saw advanced tailors next door and thought, "what the heck, let's get a second opinion" The lady in front was extremely nice and flipped the dress inside out and took a look. She then said that it's possible and to try the dress on. Once I did she took the measurements and said she could do it and sent me on my way. On the day to pick it up the dress fit perfectly. I'm writing all this to show how they went the extra mile to get me what I needed after another shop didn't even try. I trust them so much now that I will be taking my own wedding dress there in November to get it altered. read more

2 ruined dresses later, I recommend looking elsewhere. I took 2 items in, one for a zipper correction and one for slight tapering. They half-corrected the zipper so it still isn't right and tacked the neckline incorrectly so it lies wrong as well. The item for tapering on the bottom 6 inches somehow ended up being taken in completely on both sides. It is now a size smaller I cannot even get into the dress any more. Unfortunately they also trimmed the seam allowance so it is not possible to restore the garment to the correct size. Extremely unhappy, 2 dresses and $60 in alteration fees gone. read more

My wife just had a dress hemmed and was not pleased when she picked it up - the hem was crooked and puckered. I read all of the prior reviews before I left, and despite some of the negativity, I decided to give them a chance on a pair of jeans and a formal bridesmaid dress. First, I will start by confirming that the employees are VERY kind and would agree with a prior reviewer that they welcome you and are very warm. However, I'm looking for a tailor that can do her job and simply execute on a request. Therefore, the being nice part is a moot point. Let me just say that this was one of the worst tailoring jobs I've ever seen. First, similar to the prior reviewers, I put my pants on with the exact same shoes I tried them on with, and they were still a half inch too long. They also charged at least $3 more for the hem and took a week longer to complete the work than other tailors. As for the dress, it was a whopping disappointment. I needed it shortened and taken in. I put on the dress and spoke with both the tailor and the guy running the desk in great detail about what needed to be done. I was rather nervous when they didn't use any pins or mark anything on the dress for the tailoring. I should not have been surprised when I got a dress back with the wrong part hemmed. She took the belt of the dress in almost 1.5 full inches, and it wouldn't come close to zipping. However, they key here is that I did not request the belt to be taken in, and frankly, when the dress was on, it was very apparent that it fit perfectly on top. Instead, it was the skirt below the belt that needed to be taken in, so the resulting product was too small on top and too large on the bottom, a great combination. When they said they would fix it, I should have cut my losses and walked away then. However, I let them fix it, and instead of releasing the incorrect work and doing what was originally requested, they simply took out the previous belt hem. I continued to ask what all had been done to the dress, and I could not get an answer. They were confused and could not even respond to simple questions. Frankly, I just wanted to know what had actually been hemmed so I could justify my expenses. When I decided to cut my losses ($60+ for 0.5 inches hemmed at the bottom and no work on the skirt), I realized the issue is simply the language barrier. With that being said, I want to warn everyone that needs a hands on tailor to provide advice and correct work on an expensive/delicate item to NOT GO HERE. With the language barrier and inability to provide useful advice, you simply will not be able to get the tailoring work you want done. If anyone has a recommendation for a good high-end garment tailor, I welcome any suggestions. read more

I have had some very disappointing experiences with local tailors in the past not taking in clothing tight enough but they did a very good job here, making my shorts and dresses fit like a glove. They are always very kind and have the clothing ready on time. read more

Worst service ever. They were to add lace to a vintage evening gown. They didn't do it correctly even though I had shown them a picture. When I pointed out the error, the female owner RIPPED off the lace, taking no care of the vintage dress. I've never had such unprofessional care. EVER. I went here to have a bridesmaids dress alter. The dress needed to be taken out because I became pregnant. It was also to long and need to be adjusted up to to be tighter. I went in on Saturday and the two owners seemed to be great. I left because they didn't think they could make it big enough but said they could try. I ended up going back in on Monday and they were completely different. They acted like they couldn't understand what I needed, however appeared to accept the task. They told me to come back in two weeks so I did. The dress was taken out and actually fit. They did not hem the bottom dress yet so they told me to leave it another week. I picked the dress up two days before the wedding and did not try it on. I went to put it on the dress and saw chalk marks on it and noticed it was still long. They NEVER hemmed the dress. I was tripping over it all night. I am taking the dress in to show the owners because I would like a refund for the work that wasn't done. read more
