In general, I'd recommend LS Subaru. Courtney in sales was awesome and I'd totally buy another car from her or send a friend to see her. Sean, the sales manager, was also pleasant, and I appreciated his straightforward style. The only reason I can't give a 5 star on the whole organization was the finance office experience. Once I declined to buy any prepaid service or extended warranty, the finance person switched immediately from being friendly and making small talk to being curt and short with me. It was obvious that he wasn't excited about the deal after that. That aside, the sales staff themselves are very good, and I'd still recommend the store. Everything about our experience was highly unusual compared to typical used car purchases. Over the years, we have owned many vehicles, and this process differed significantly from the start of our interaction with the dealership. Although we ultimately proceeded with purchasing the vehicle and trading in our own, multiple unresolved issues arose within just a few days. As a result, the dealership offered to allow us to return the vehicle. However, we were informed that the title for our trade-in had already been processed, and a replacement title would need to be ordered, which would take 4-6 weeks! While we understand that administrative process, we requested written documentation (on letterhead) outlining the status of the transaction so that we could confidently move forward with purchasing a vehicle elsewhere. Unfortunately, the used car general manager did not respond to our call or email. Instead, the finance manager communicated via text message and indicated she would attempt to obtain documentation, but ultimately informed us that nothing further could be provided and suggested we share the text message with another dealership. We do not consider this an acceptable resolution. Based on this experience, we cannot recommend purchasing from the used car division at Lee's Summit Subaru. We have filed formal complaints with the appropriate authorities, including the Attorney General's office and the Federal Trade Commission, and the BBB. read more

I have to give 5 stars for Brandon Vail, I really appreciated everything he did to make the purchase possibly even staying with me until 10:30pm so I could meet with the Finance Manager and make the sale possible since I couldn't do it any other day. If you're thinking of buying a used vehicle from Lee's Summit Subaru, please read this first. We purchased a 2015 GMC Denali from them. On the way home, we noticed a grinding sensation while driving. Unfortunately, the dealership had just closed for the day, and since it only happened occasionally on the drive, we hoped it was nothing serious. A few days later, the problem got much worse. When we contacted the dealership, their only response was: "You didn't buy a warranty, so there's nothing we can do." We eventually got into a mechanic (after weeks of waiting) and learned the rear end had completely failed. The repair cost is over $3,300. We informed the dealership, and once again they refused to help--even though they sold the vehicle in this condition. Because of this, the vehicle was undriveable for over a month. I had to borrow a car from my parents and work a ton of overtime just to cover the repair--losing precious family time before my son left for college. To make matters worse: * Our salesman originally offered to let us take the car home overnight to "decide," but his supervisor pushed the deal hard. Now it's clear why. * The finance manager was extremely rude, put the wrong financing company on our paperwork, and when we called to clarify, he doubled down without apologizing. * We were also sent the wrong title. Once the paperwork was completed and signed, she said we had one more step and we would have to wait for the next representative. He made us wait 30 minutes and then tried to strong arm us into signing up for a warranty and special coatings on the car.. when he was informed that we felt it was poor form to keep customers waiting for 30 minutes to try to sell expensive add ons that we were not interested in.... My issue is with the finance person who pushed an extra $10K in services I didn't need that were added to my financing and increased my monthly payment by $100. Luckily I moved and found a dealership with an honest finance person it seems. Upgraded to a new model and saving $100 per month. Lee's Summit Subaru told me my working AC was part of an AC recall. For 2 years, I had taken it to Subaru dealers and told them ac wasn't working. They charged me for checking it and said it was fine. I took it to a local mechanic, who told me the expansion valve needed to be replaced and fixed it. I was apprehensive of Subaru touching my working ac. They scheduled it to be done. An hour before the 1st appt, they called and said they were behind. They'd have to reschedule. The next appointment, they repeated, have to reschedule. Third time, they gave me a loaner that was dirty, with Garbage in it. They replaced the AC. GUESS WHAT? It doesn't work now. She was professional, helpful, great listener and had a lively sense of humor. My car was six weeks late getting to me due to understandable circumstances. Liz called every week to give me an update and in the end gave me a bit of a discount for any inconvenience. Everyone else I encountered were equally welcoming. Zero stars. Took it in for 2 issues. Can't get the key out and ac doesn't work. $238 and they replaced a $3 light bulb that I approved. Still can't get the key out so the car is sitting running in my driveway as we speak. Service advisor said they didn't fix the key issue because the button was $800. Although, an earlier call to the service dept, they said they fixed it. I did get a text saying I have thousands of dollars worth of things to do. I declined all but the lightbulb. There was never even an explanation on the text, or a total. I guess I should have had a calculator handy. No calls to explain. Majority of the $238 was to diagnose the Ac problem. On October 4, 2022 I bought a 2022 Subaru Outback from Lee's Summit Subaru. Before driving the 271 miles to the dealership I had negotiated the final price for the car ($33,399.95 with no additional costs and fees) via email with a Used Car Sales Manager, made an appointment through the same Sales Manager with an assigned salesman and printed out my last email with the Sales Manager stating the VIN number of the vehicle and documenting the price agreed upon. I arrived at the dealership at 1:15, was redirected from one building to another and then greeted by my salesman. His first order of business was to present me with a document I was to sign indicating my intent to purchase the requested vehicle at an invoice price nearly $2,000 more than previously negotiated. I objected and showed the salesman my email from his Sales Manager stating the vehicle VIN number and the agreed-upon final price. After much conversation with the salesman, waiting for him to confer with others out of sight, another Manager joined us and explained there were two files under my name. They now had the correct file and we could proceed. I asked to test drive the vehicle. In the car, I asked to see the low tire pressure screen that reports individual tire pressure. The salesman brought up the display and I saw that three tires reported 30 psi and one 29 psi. Because I knew that the manual for my previous 2022 Subaru, recently totaled in a collision, specified 35 psi for front tires and 33 psi for rear tires, I asked the salesman to have Service check the tires and be sure they carried the correct tire pressure as I would be driving home alone, 271 miles at night. He said he would do so. Four hours or so into the paperwork we hit a snag. I resisted signing the document stating what Lee's Summit Subaru does with my personal information. I simply wanted to purchase a car with a check, not agree to my information being "reported to credit bureaus", "used for marketing purposes", "for joint marketing efforts with financial companies", or for their "affiliates' everyday business purposes". The next 20 minutes were quite unpleasant for me as I listened to at least two Managers explain why my concerns were unfounded, the form was required, and that once I had signed they would see that my information was shared only with the state of Missouri. I decided to sign the document after numbering the four statements I found objectionable and writing in the Other Important Information line "Customer disagrees with #1, 2, 3, 4." Around 5:15 all the "preliminary" paperwork had been signed, the car had been detailed, and I was ready to write the check. But, no, I now had to go to another building and meet with the Finance Manager. After waiting 15 minutes in a little room, I entered the main vestibule and asked the receptionist how much longer it was going to be, that I had 271 miles to drive home by myself in the dark. I said I had signed every form, could I just write the check and go. Suddenly, a man/manager? rushes out of a side room and vociferously tells me to stop yelling, I am upsetting customers and staff, staff is busy helping other customers, I need to wait my turn! He tells me to be seated and they will call me when it is my turn. I quietly wait another 15 minutes. By this time it is nearing 6:00 p.m. I decide to go ask the receptionist if she has any idea how much longer it will be to see the Finance Manager. As I enter the main vestibule, the same man/manager? runs out and begins berating me once more. He would not let me speak. With rudeness and disrespect he ushers me into the Finance Manager's office. While it was a very awkward beginning, the Finance Manager and I handled the final paperwork in an agreeable manner. I left the dealership at 6:45 p.m., 5 1/2 hours after arrival. Ninety miles down the road the first low tire pressure light came on: 29 psi. One by one the other tires began reporting low. I took a photo at 188 miles: one tire reported 28 psi, the other three reported 27 psi. I called Roadside Assistance, but they were unable to offer help unless I wanted the vehicle towed. I googled "Driving on what low psi will damage tires". Three sources stated below 26 psi, so I drove another 80 miles to my home. The following morning, I read the Subaru manual taken from the glove box. Subaru specifies filling front tires to 35 psi and rear tires to 33 psi. Using an air compressor and tire pressure gauge, I filled the tires with air per the manual. For a week, I have continually watched the car's tire pressure monitor every time I drive. All four tires are holding at the recommended psi. read more

I love my Crosstrek. The service at the dealership is great. So why 2 stars? While the finance department was adequate in securing an auto loan for me, they botched the title by putting the wrong lender on the title. They harangued me to bring in the title so they could "correct the error." I did and they ... dropped off the face of the Earth. I had to harangue them to give me updated information. They finally responded with a blurry partial screenshot from the DMV (maybe? there was no contact information on the screen shot.) Now it's time for me renew the registration. The DMV (which has been surprisingly helpful) tells me that the dealership botched the title correction. Sheesh. BTW, I applied for a mortgage this year and found that Lee's Summit Subaru made 6 hard hit credit inquiries in getting my car loan. It only took 2 hard hits to get a mortgage. So to sum up, two botched attempts to properly transfer registration to my new car and they threw hand grenades onto my credit report. read more

My wife's 2023 Crosstrek was due for service, so we called Lee's Summit Subaru to book an appointment. I asked the service advisor what service was due for the car, as I was unsure at the time what had constituted the previous service on the car, which had just under 17,000 miles. I was told that she needed the service maintenance package 2, and when I looked on Subaru's website, I concluded that, per their recommendations, that would entail oil and filter change, tire rotation, multi point inspection, and changing the cabin air filter (if needed). We booked the appointment for January 2, 2024. The service ended up being $333 with tax! When my wife showed me the invoice from the dealer service department, all looked good, until I came to the brake fluid flush and change. I found it to be a bit perplexing that they would do this service at that mileage interval, so I did my due diligence, and checked on Subaru's website, as well as numerous Subaru dealer websites nationwide. And then, I called every other Subaru dealers' service departments in the Kansas City area, and spoke with them. Further, I put in calls to dealerships of other brands in the Kansas City area. I couldn't find one dealer service department, Subaru or otherwise, that recommended doing this service prior to 30,000 miles. It was only after this that I called to leave a message for the service drive manager, expressing my concerns over being billed for this unnecessary service. Rather than get back me directly, he had the service advisor who handled the ticket on January 2 call me. I spoke with her, and she told me that Subaru recommends the 15,000 brake fluid flush and change, and that's what they go by. I informed her that I had already talked to multiple Subaru dealership service departments, and not one had ever done such a service prior to 30,000 miles. Frustrated at getting nowhere with the service advisor, I once again called and left a message with the service drive manager voicing my concerns. He finally returned my call toward the end of the day, and explained that, a.) this was the service we requested, and b.) this brake fluid flush and change fell with the guidelines of Subaru of America. I informed him that a.) we weren't aware we were buying this added service, and b.) it sounded an awfully lot like he was telling me "hey, Subaru lets us do it". He eventually agreed to refund the cost of the unnecessary brake fluid flush and change, but all the while maintaining that it was the correct service at the 15,000 mile interval, even making the statement that they had just had a meeting about it earlier that day. Oh, it ain't over! We finally saw the refund of $91 show up in my wife's account, and that seemed a bit short. So I called Lee's Summit Subaru back to speak with their service manager, and left a voice mail to return my call. The service manager did return my call, and this conversation mirrored that I had already had with the service drive manager, except in one crucial matter. He told me that they go by Subaru's "severe" maintenance schedule, due to the snow and ice and road salt we get out here. Like this is New England, or upstate New York. So apparently, they are the only Subaru dealership in the whole of the Kansas City area, and the only auto dealership in the whole of the Kansas City area, that considers driving in this area to be "severe conditions". At no point has anyone with Lee's Summit Subaru admitted to wrongdoing, even though they refunded us $91, leaving us with what was still a pretty high bill for a routine oil change, tire rotation, and multi-point inspection. We have since decided to take our cars to a different Subaru dealership for major service intervals, and take them to Firestone for the routine maintenance and service like oil change and tire rotation. I would advise to avoid Lee's Summit Subaru for servicing your vehicles. And if you find yourself there for whatever reason, get the pricing up front, and look in your owner's manual to see what the manufacturer's recommended service is for your vehicle at that mileage. Don't let them BS you, don't let them convince you that they're just looking out for you and your car. We've been getting service there since 2022, and assumed they would never recommend an unnecessary service, or overcharge us. We were wrong. And if you've been over billed by these folks, know your rights. Contact the consumer complaint unit of the State of Missouri's Office of the Attorney General. read more

I would give negative stars if I could. I purchased my 2020 Forester last June in Washington state. This is my second Forester. The last one I had for 10 years and maintained it perfectly, every 30k major fluids changed, 120k timing belt, water pump, fluids and drive belts. ANYTHING that came up with my car I fixed it right away and at the dealership. So WHY tell you all this? Because this dealership is all about the bait and switch. I brought my 2020 in for an oil change after driving it across the country. The advisor told me my alignment was out and I needed a tire rotation. You get one complimentary alignment in your first 3/36 warranty. I did agree to the tire rotation because the higher tread was in the back. They charged me $30 for a tire rotation! That is absolutely a rip off. Most of the time an oil change will go through the quick lube size which the tech is paid an hourly rate, not flat rate which means he isn't making any more money for doing it. Lets just say that a flat rate tech did my oil change because there was the alignment as well... my car was already in the air and my wheels should have already been off to check the brakes properly. Even if my wheels weren't off a flat rate tech should not have to put $30 worth of effort into moving tires. ALSO, the advisor did not mention it was a $30 charge for a TIRE ROTATION. Let's think about this.... the minimum wage in Missouri is $8.60 this tire rotation would is worth 3.5 hours of work? How in the heck does this add up? I come from the dealership world. This is extremely disheartening and this is why people do not trust dealerships. On another note... my apple car is not working in my $36,000 car. I called to make an appointment because this is an on going issue. The woman I spoke with told me she would charge me for a rental if it wasn't within my warranty? I am within my 3/36 and I know its a car issue not my cord. I have no other signs of any type of damage (rodent or otherwise). THIS DEALERSHIP WILL TAKE ALL THEY CAN GET FROM YOU! He answered all of our questions, and concerns and was very pleasant and patient with us and presented options that he thought might be something we were interested in. James Fegan was our finance person and was great to work with, again no pressure only presentation when it came to the packages available for us. Then they offer a service, which we took advantage of; a tutorial on the vehicle as far as the electronics. This was presented by LeAnn, who was very knowledgeable, and pleasant. This saved my husband a lot of reading and experimenting to get things figured out. We are a senior couple and this dealership, treated us like we were important and that they appreciated our business. I feel I've made myself clear with every person I've worked with there, so this is not my only "platform" of complaint. I have a very old Subaru that needed a lot of work when I bought it used this year. I got great service from Brad when I went in with my father (a longtime customer) to get major things fixed. A few months later, I had a catastrophic breakdown that ended up costing $5000 at an out-of-state dealership. I do NOT blame Brad or his colleagues for this, but was very disappointed not to hear back from him when I called him, in great distress, after my breakdown. I just wanted his feedback, as his client, on what I could have done and what I should do now that I was stranded at an unfamiliar dealership. More recently, I dealt with Greg S. and received great face-to-face service and frequent updates, plus the use of their lovely loaner car. That said, when I got my own car home, I noticed that all my old, dirty parts had been...tossed in my trunk? I called Greg and he was not too interested. Most frustratingly, I had asked him if, since he had my car for two full weeks, someone could please just spray a can of lubricant onto my very squeaky undercarriage while they were at it. I've now driven it for a week and regret to report that I do not think Greg was truthful when he told me that had been done. read more

Purchasing a car can be stressful and certainly not an easy process. I initially ran a quote and was put in touch to the sales team. Decided to stop by and take a look at the car in person. Everything was quite smooth and good during the test drive and looking over the vehicle. The sales person I worked with was great. Unfortunately, we were not able to agree on a price, which is fine. When negotiating the price, the sales manager, with his condescending attitude, essentially stated that they did not want to sell the car and apologized to the sales person for "me wasting her time." I found it ironic that they were trying to sell me on the fact that they were a dealer that respects their customers when I did not feel that at all. This does not seem to be a one-off scenario as my other friends and colleagues who have visited experienced a similar purchase experience as well when dealing with the sales manager. read more

Took my car in for oil change and pointed to the light I also needed fixed. Not only did they not fix the bulb but when I took it in a week later to tell them they wanted to charge me $200 to fix what I had already paid them to fix. I have purchased 9 vehicles from this dealership in the past and they were willing to throw that business away over $200. I attempted to purchase a new vehicle with this dealership last year. They did not have any in stock at the time so I put down a deposit for one that was to arrive within a week. Come the guaranteed delivery date, the car doesn't show up and they refuse to do anything to find out about the status. The salesman I was working then started screening my calls and dodging me. Now 3 days later, still no sign of the car and they refuse to find out the status. I tell them to return the deposit which they refuse to do. They never contact me about the car arriving and sell it out from underneath me and try to keep my deposit. Luckily I made the deposit with a credit card, so had my CC issue a charge back without any problems. I left reviews elsewhere and the dealership just lies about the whole situation. I brought my 2018 Forester 6M in today for service. Rather than having an employee wash it and bring it up when it was finished - two employees took off in my car so one of them could "learn to drive a manual". I watched these kids pull my car around - dump the clutch- kill the car and then switch seats so the kid who knew how to drive a manual could finish parking it. I brought my car in for service. Not for it to be used in service of teaching your employee to drive a 6 speed. This is unacceptable and unprofessional. What's more is the service manager proceeded to tell me that I should expect this and that their employees will get experience from customers cars. No. It is not my responsibility to provide a clutch for your employee to tear up While learning how to drive. Furthermore, it is negligent for your company to EVER put an employee who can not operate a manual transmission into a customers car with a manual transmission. It is gross negligence. Do not take your car here for service unless you want teenagers joyriding in your vehicle. read more

This is our second purchase from Lee's Summit Subaru. Our first was a new 2015 Crosstrek. We started shopping for a replacement for my wife and test drove some non-Subaru models and my wife didn't love them or the dealership experiences. I had done an on-line inquiry with LS Subaru and already had an appointment to see Tyler. After a Saturday morning of bad experiences, we got to Lee's Summit Subaru and Tyler already had a Forester with the equipment package we wanted ready to go. With my wife at the wheel, we barely got out of the lot and my wife said she wanted the Forester, although in a different color. LS Subaru didn't have the color we wanted but Tyler found one in St. Louis within minutes. We negotiated a purchase price and gave them a $500 deposit to bring the car back from St. Louis. Including the test drive, we were at the dealership less than an hour. We picked the car up the following Tuesday on the promised delivery date and spent about another hour at the dealership handling the paperwork. All in all, both experiences were the way car shopping should be. One unexpected perk was the concierge service. Signed my name for titling, had my credit pulled, put down a deposit, to have them turn around and tell me the vehicle needed a job done that would take 2-3 weeks. I take responsibility for that, because the vehicle hadn't be inspected prior to my arrival. They gave me my deposit back, and attempted to help me find another option, which they did! But, because of all of the work that needed to be done they weren't willing to go down on the price because, exact quote," Someone will buy this for the asking price." DESPITE all they put me through in 24 hrs. Paul was pleasant to work with, but it is very obvious they only care about the money and not their reputation. They weren't willing to budge $800 dollars to transcend the entire experience from horrible to helpful and honest. First, understand that the service department team members are professional and nice. With that being said, their "appointment" system/process is a joke. I had a 10:00 appointment for an oil change and tire rotation. When I arrived I was asked if I were dropping off or waiting. "I live 30 minutes away and I have an appointment--so I'll be waiting," I replied. I was then told that it would be 3 - 3.5 hours because they "are really busy." So, what's the point in having an appointment? The vehicle was finished in 2 hours, 55 minutes. I received a "sorry for your wait" as I was led to the cashier to pay. This process needs to change. There are plenty of other places that understand what "appointment" means. read more

I've been car shopping for about 2 months now and had finally decided on what I wanted. I set up an appointment to do one final test drive before finalizing the purchase. When I got to the dealership, the receptionist called for my sales rep over the intercom. About 3 minutes later, the rep came walking out and shook my hand. Then, he (for some reason) made about 4 trips back and forth from the showroom floor to the lot, saying he "grabbed the wrong keys" each time. Finally, he pulls a car around for me. THE WRONG CAR. I let him know this wasn't the car I was scheduled to test drive and he apologized, confused, and went to go get the right car - again having to fuss with the whole key situation. Finally, he pulled the right car around for me but when he got out, he let me know that the gas tank was bone dry and said that the "carrier boy" had the gas card. He said we could either drive a different car or wait for the carrier boy to go fill up the tank. We said we'd wait so that I could drive the actual car I came to buy and the sales rep returned to the showroom leaving us on the curb waiting. After about 5 minutes and no update, we went in to find the rep we were working with and brought him back outside. At that point, the carrier boy came walking around from the service center smoking a cigarette and playing on his phone. Our rep grabbed his attention and told him to go fill up the car. He tossed his cigarette, walked right past us not saying a word, and took off with the car. When he got back, he once again silently walked past us playing on his phone and went inside. Finally we got to take the car for a drive and we did. The car was great -can't wait to buy one! (JUST NOT FROM THIS DEALERSHIP) When it came time to negotiate, I voiced my displeasure with the experience thus far, let him know I didn't want to play any more games, and asked for the bottom price he'd be able to do on the car. He understood and asked if we wanted some water. We said yes and he walked away. When he came back, he had a price list for (again) THE WRONG CAR trying to sell me on how it was a great deal and he really fought to get me that price. I told him that it wasn't the price that was on the car and he then discovered his mistake. Left and came back again with the correct price list, but the bottom price wasn't where it needed to be for me to do the deal. He told me to name my price and I did, so he took it to his manager to see if he could get it approved. His manager came to talk with us afterwards, and we never saw the sales rep again. Like I said, I've been shopping with MANY dealerships for months now, and this one takes the cake for THE ABSOLUTE WORST out there. So much so that I felt the need to rant on a yelp review even 12 hours after the ordeal. Needless to say, I'm very glad I left this miserable situation with my money still in my pocket. I am so grateful for the service department service. I was driving home to Ohio through Kansas City and hit the mother of all potholes on the highway. It dented 2 wheels. They had to deal with the third party warranty which is no fun al all, they never want to pay for anything. Do not have your Subaru serviced here!! My experience with Lee's Summit Subaru was one of the worst experiences of my life. Long story short. I had my 2011 Subaru Outback taken to this dealership for repairs. My engine was overheating. They had my car for a week, I had to call almost everyday to figure out where they were at with my repair. They had replaced my timing belt, water pump, head gaskets, etc $3000. Sucks but I needed it repaired. Thought I would have a brand new car essentially with how much was done to it. Car didn't feel right when I got it back. So, 2000 miles later I am stranded on the side of the road, engine shaking. Took my subaru back to dealership where they said I needed new heads, repair is $4000. Uhh what. I just had my head gaskets replaced and what not. Was told this new problem had nothing to do with the repair two months ago. Took to another shop where they said that it was in fact due to something Subaru had done improperly. I contacted them to see if they would fix what they broke and nothing. Please do not use this dealership for repairs! Coming from a honest hard working woman! read more
