Was in town for the Blues Festival and walked by the night before and it smellled delicious. Today my friend and I went to have lunch there and it was awful. We ordered dishes that were supposed to have green vegetables in them and not a hint of green was seen. The dishes we ordered had so much bamboo in them it was disgusting especially if you know what they taste like. The waitress was flippant when we asked her where the green veggies were and when we told her that the dish didn't taste good and the white rice was hard. This was highly overpriced and I wouldn't reccomend this place if you want authentic Chinese food. read more

Wowowowowow. We were craving Asian food after spending a few days in the area, and we were thrilled to find a local Chinese restaurant. We had all the small town Chinese American restaurant staples: Hot and sour soup. Lemon chicken. Beef with green onions. It was literally perfect and hit the spot. Service was great and you can tell the staff have relationships with locals who were ordering take out. This is not authentic Chinese food (duh). We were in town for a couple of days and had a hankering for some Chinese. No other options without making a lengthy journey, and with the reviews posted by others, we were slightly apprehensive. The dining room had some other diners, but they seemed to have a lot of take out. The server was very friendly, and attended to us promptly. I live in the area and my mom and I went for a lunch but had the worst experience ever! The waitress was incredibly rude and nasty (may have been one of the rudest waitress I have ever experienced) when we brought up the fact the food was cold and hard like it hadn't been cooked enough. She made rude comments and then way over charged us for the tiny cup of soup that was all we ate. The food tasted old and like it was straight from a frozen bag. Lee's unassuming, drab exterior belies a charming and clean little restaurant on the inside. As far as ambiance and interior design goes, I think it's one of the best restaurants in Ft. Bragg. More than just a big room with tables and other restaurant-y stuff, and random memorabilia inside, someone has clearly put some thought into making this a nice place to have a comfortable meal with friends. The menu is pretty much what you'd expect in a Chinese restaurant in the US. Large, but not overwhelming, with all the usual dishes. Please bring your own Sriracha to drown out the saddest Chinese food I've ever had. If there was a Panda Express in town, please go there. I have my favorite restaurants in both Mendocino and Fort Bragg. Lee's has never been on that list. Back when I first moved to FB (35 years ago) and joined the local Audubon Board, our president used to pick up Chinese food for our board meetings from Ada Bell's (now thankfully--Café One). Yesterday, a friend invited me to meet her at Lee's (which is, BTW, FB's oldest restaurant.) It was nearly empty at lunchtime, though a few people came in and got food to go. Our server was charming. Now my favorite Chinese meal is Mu Shu. Even in San Francisco I've had very disappointing Mu Shu, so I quizzed our server. "Comes with plum sauce?" "Served with crepes, not--as I once had it in SF--flour tortillas?" I bravely ordered the vegetable Mu Shu and it was delicious. My friend had Chow Mein and loved it. Apparently, Fort Bragg has a really good Chinese restaurant right under our very noses and I loved it. read more

Walked in at dinner time and only one couple were the only customers at the time. There was no hostess or server to lead us to a table. The female customer then proceeded to hand out menus to us. Wth, knock-knock, where's the hostess? I figured the couple were regulars at the restaurant and knew the owner/workers? We browsed through the menu. We decided with Chef Lee's Dinner for two people ($32.95). The menu included: Sizzling Rice Soup Egg Rolls & Fried Prawns Mongolian Beef Pineapple Sweet & Sour Chicken Steamed Rice Hot Tea & Cookies The meals came fairly quickly. The food was okay. I liked the sizzling rice soup but I was not impressed with the egg rolls & fried prawns (frozen, pre-packaged?). Had some of the Mongolian beef but lacked flavor. Didn't get to the pineapple sweet & sour chicken. We had better Chinese food in Chinatown in San Francisco. The cookies were fortune cookies. I don't know why I was thinking chocolate chip cookie or even almond cookie. Our server was really nice. No complaints. Be mindful that the restaurant does not accept credit cards, not even debit cards, so basically, cash only. Luckily, we had cash on hand. Street parking only. We had gone here for lunch and stepping back into wonderful time warp. The food was delicious just like the way we remember from San Francisco old Chinatown where I grew up. Recommend stopping here should you be craving for good old fashioned Cantonese style cooking. Something of an art that is past down from generation to generations.
