We love having Ledu nearby and eat there at least once per month. The restaurant is well-lit and extremely clean. There isn't much seating inside, so we usually time our visits accordingly, but we've only had good experiences both dining in and taking out. Service is cheerful and responsive. Hmmm...I would have *loved* to have given this place 4 stars, because the girl at the counter is super sweet and the space is low-key but very neat/ comfortable (not like S&I, where tables are rickety and your plates barely fit on the table top). Plus, apart from Cha Yen Thai there's a dearth of excellent Thai food within the vicinity of where I live. But the food just is not there :-( *Som Tum: I've lived in SE Asia (total of 5 years) and took Thai cooking classes. The Som tum here did not have any dried shrimp - ok, most American places shortcut this out - but no garlic either! It also had a severe lack of fish sauce. Honestly, it sucked. Just tasted like chillis and sugar with sour sauce. I couldn't taste any palm sugar either - tasted kind like white sugar, but maybe it was just too subtle. *Sticky rice: Slightly overdone. It was a bit too moist and had lost a bit of its tooth-someness. Other stir fry/ curry items were pretty good, but not enough to overcome the som tum :-( read more

We are going to be regular patrons of the new LeDu Thai Eatery. Stopped by right after it opened to grab a menu, which, to our delight, included the northern Thai curry called Kao Soi (it's listed under "LeDu Favorites"). Yesterday we tried it and were thrilled with the result. A huge bowl of rich and thick and fragrant curry, just the right amount of spice, with chicken (plentiful), onions, bean sprouts, egg noodles, pickled greens and crispy noodles on top. Wonderful variety of flavors and textures. The shop is cozy, with a few tables and window counter seats. Nice decor and comfortable setting. The owners, Cholada and Paul, are warm and friendly, and very enthusiastic about bringing good Thai food to the area. Newtonville is indeed lucky to have LeDu in our neighborhood! read more

This place is a disaster. I came in and was standing there for ten minutes before anyone asked me why I was standing there. I then placed an order where she said t would be about 45 minutes and granted, I said yes. I went home and even came back an hour later and came in to a guy who was CLUELESS and was no help at all but let me pay and said my order wasn't ready. I decided to wait out in the car and came back in a good fifteen minutes ONLY to find out that they didn't even put in my order!!!! We called in to pick up, which was quick and easy. Overall very good - the vegetable spring rolls were fresh and very crispy on the outside (though the paper was thick enough that the inside was a little mealy). In a town that is inching closer to Thai takeout super saturation, this place shines! We've been twice so far and everything has been great. So far we tried: Kao soi chicken (so good!), pad see ew, pad woo sen, jalapeno crispy wings and the papaya salad. All super fresh and flavorful. And the portion sizes are all huge so you really get 2 meals in one. Oh, and the woman at the front is exceptionally nice. Takes a little extra time than normal takeout ~30 mins. I've tried most things on the menu. Found 2 things i really like so I've gone back. Not again. Called food in tonight and they said 20 minutes. Showed up 20 minutes later and waited another 45. Asked the man at the front register how much longer and told him what he told us and how we've been waited and got no response or apology. He was rude and just said they were busy and he didn't know it would be an hour. Pretty much tough crap. I've ready other reviews saying he has been rude and a problem as well. We ordered 2 dishes with tofu and no egg. Both dishes came out covered in fish sauce. When we returned the food and explained we were vegan, they told us they would have to charge us 50% MORE because we didnt specify that we are vegan. My husband & i will mever be returning. Vegans beware....just saying no egg, with tofu isn't enough for them to realize they should ask if fish sauce is ok. read more

This place gets 5 stars for food, I wish they had more tables! It's a family run operation and you can taste the love. I am a Tom Yum soup fanatic and this is the best I've had in Boston. This the best Thai food anywhere. LeDu is the take-out reincarnation of Khao Sarn in Brookline. But don't worry, there are a couple seats if you want to scarf some crispy-spicy wings and wash 'em down with a Singha. The menu has all the favorites from KS. What a great spot! The food is delicious (probably some of the best Thai I've had in Boston), service was friendly, and the space is bright and fun. I tried the Gaprow Chicken and the crispy wings, both of which were tasty, the right amount of spicy and presented well (I ate at one of the tables in the space).
