Palata with chicken curry
Vincent N.

Skip the buffet, order from the Burmese menu!!! There's no wait and more authentic (and tastier) than B-Superstar 1. Palata with chicken curry: crispy roti with the curry side. Highly indulgent 2. Shan noodle: rice noodles with pickled veggies & seasoned chicken. Served warm, yet refreshing (not too oily)

Great Burmese Chinese food. Not authentic but okay Myanmar noodles dishes. Would I go back again, no I wouldn't. Just like you want to try and just say ok type.

Best Burmese noodle soup and garlic noodle. Samosa the crispy potato fillings is really good.

come for their Burmese food!

This review is strictly on their Burmese food only, not their Chinese buffet. Came here on a lazy Sunday after our Burmese friend highly recommended this place and hyped up their kyae oae, garlic noodles, and fried shrimp appetizer. Y and I were stoked! Service was great, prices are reasonable, and all of our food came out looking very appetizing...and the flavors...they were pretty dead on, especially with the little pieces of fried garlic. My favorite was their chicken garlic noodle. That is...up until the MSG kicked in. OMG, talk about MSG overload! Growing up with Asian food all my life, MSG lives in my blood, I thought I was immune to it, but even I couldn't handle it. The throat started closing up, my body was feeling tight and tingly, and the headache kicked in. I was a complete mess! Needless to say, that just ruined the entire food experience. I think I need some time to recover before walking into this place again. If/when I do come back; I will tell them...absolutely NO MSG!

This place has been at this shopping center for as long as I can remember. Grant it, I have never stopped by until just this past week for the first time. I have always gone to Sam's Chinese Kitchen when I am at this plaza but I felt that I needed to expand my options and check this place out. I initially noticed that they offer buffet style lunch which is GREAT! The cost for the buffet is $8.95 which is not bad at all. In looking over the options that you have for lunch you can somewhat see why the cost is what it is!!! You have your usual options that consists of the following: orange chicken, egg rolls, beef with broccoli, chow mein, etc. The portions get replenished when the get low which is nice but the freshness may be a bit questionable! My food was cool which I am happy about. I got a two item combo lunch box to go. The food seemed a bit over seasoned and a bit saltier than other Chinese food establishments that I have been to but I made it work. If you can look past some of these shortcomings here then this place may be a WINNER for you. But, if you prefer something that is a bit more tolerable I would suggest looking for Chinese restaurants in San Francisco, in my opinion. #GiveItATry

Having said that, Mingalaba is probably the most authentic Asian restaurant I've eaten at so far. You can there that there's no shortcuts with the dishes, nothing is watered down, everything is just real. The coconut chicken soup is something out of this world. It's not spicy at all. I can't describe it but it was really delicious, as with all the other dishes. The service was amazing and they even amended some of our dishes so that we could feed it to our kid (non-spicy). I really like this restaurant. Only such a shame we live so far now and only just discovered it. I'd visit again if I'm around.

While there are a few highlights, several dishes don't quite justify the premium pricing. The Burmese beef and lamb curries are really good--the meat is consistently tender and the flavors are deep and well-developed. We also really enjoyed the rainbow salad and the paratha with curry sauce, though both felt overpriced for what they are. Other menu items have been disappointing: * Catfish Chowder: This was fairly average and bore a strange resemblance to pea soup. * Walnut Broccoli Chicken: Another mediocre dish that failed to leave an impression.

The service was quick and friendly, and ambiance was homey! We got the garlic noodles (which I think might be more of an Asian fusion thing that is popular in the Bay Area), which I enjoyed. There seemed like there was minced crispy fried garlic on top of the noodles. We also had the pumpkin curry, which I have had before in homemade Southeast Asian food, but my friend hadn't seen that before on menus. I love savory pumpkin dishes and I'm glad they had it on the menu. I had also wanted to try a tea leaf salad--this is a touch bitter, but I really liked the balance of textures with some crispiness from the peanuts. I'm hoping they reopen soon!

We were given complimentary tea, ordered Fried Tofu for appetizers, White Fungus Salad, Coconut Chicken Soup, Fiery Spicy Catfish, and a side of Coconut Rice for our party of 4. We didn't wait long for our food, we could tell from its aroma that we were in for a treat (food was delicious)! The sweetness of the coconut rice complemented the heat of the Fiery Spicy Catfish. The portion size of the White Fungus Salad and Coconut Chicken soup big enough for all 4 of us to share. The friend tofu was crunchy on the outside and soft in the inside. Tommy was very hospitable! He even gave us complimentary ice cream because our friends took us here. Found out that he may be relocating his restaurant soon (by Dec 2025) as the Mercedez Benz dealership beside them would like to expand which means that MB would take over the building space his restaurant is currently occupying. Very clean restaurant, make sure to stop by soon whenever in the Westborough area!

It's been a while since the last time we've come to Burma Superstar, but we saw the restaurant week…read moremenu and decided it was about time to come back! This time it was a $90 set with 2 drinks, 2 servings of rice of your choice, a trio of their salads, and 2 entrees - honestly a great deal and I think the waitstaff mentioned it's about a $150 value, which I completely believe. Our party of 4 arrived around 8:15, and waited about 15 minutes to get seated - definitely try to join the ahead of time because they saved us! It's cozy, clean and well decorated inside, and though the tables are a little close you have plenty of space and it's not too loud for conversations. We got two sets of the $90 menu - which was probably a mistake since we were stuffed and had plenty of leftovers. Drinks: we got 4 different drinks - the mango Lassi, spiced sunset, nanda breeze and burma cooler. All of these were excellent, refreshing and great for balancing the strong flavors of the entrees! Rice: we always get the coconut rice, so this time we opted for 2 scoops of coconut rice and 2 scoops of the burmese fried rice - the fried rice was tasty but not as fragrant as the coconut rice so we'll probably stick to that in the future Salad trio: this included the iconic tea leaf salad, along with the pea shoot salad, and superstar noodle salad. The pea shoot salad was a surprising favorite, and I'd even consider getting that over the tea leaf salad in the future! The noodle salad was pretty filling but tasty - maybe good if you're not planning to get a bunch of entrees On to the entrees: these are all super flavorful, umami, and can get a little heavy if you don't balance it out with the rice and salads. We got the pazun kyaw (chili prawns), nga phel hin (a sort of fish patty in tomato curry sauce with fresh cucumber slices), chili lamb, and basil chili pork belly. The chili lamb was a standout - super tender, flavorful and our overall favorite. The basil chili pork belly is a close second, but a bit oilier and heavier. The nga phel hin was tasty but a little too heavy /salty - slightly helped by the cucumber but there were only 4 slices with the dish. The chili prawns had great flavor but unfortunately were a little overcooked. Overall, this was an excellent meal! Burma Superstar never fails to be a great place for a large, flavorful family style dinner. I'm glad we got to try multiple new things from the menu through the restaurant week offer, and I'll be able to switch up my typical order in the future based on what we tried this time!

The service here is exponentially better, the staff is super friendly, incredibly attentive, and they make everyone feel very welcomed. The food on the other hand just is not great. Yes this place is always packed apparently, and it may be out of convenience. I found that everything that we ordered with the exception of the coconut rice fell flat. This is one of those moments that hurt your heart because I want to give them huge accolades, but it's just not there. We ordered the platha. It was tasty, but it also did not taste super fresh. The dipping sauce that it comes with (opted for chicken) and kept digging around the small bowl to find pieces of chicken that were nonexistent. The up charge of a dollar for the chicken dipping sauce that did not have chicken in it super disappointing. The sauce was tasty, but definitely not worth the up charge. Our server encouraged us to get the tea salad, which is definitely something. Someone should try if you've never had it before. The mixture of fresh veggies, the light sauce and the herbs, make for a very fresh bite. I would've been thrilled if late shredded chicken could be added to this for a different style dish. It would be super tasty. The salad was good, but not my style, but everyone else enjoyed it. We ordered the beef curry and the coconut rice. I absolutely want to emphasize how incredible the staff is. Their service and attentiveness absolutely should be acknowledged over and over again. The coconut rice at this location is exponentially better than at the other restaurant that we tried. This was a combination of light, fluffy, and absolutely flavorful delicious rice. The beef curry was incredibly disappointing. The beef was well done not done well. It was tough, overly chewy, and the flavor profile was just not good. It was missing something and even the light curry broth that the meat was sitting in well, good wasn't fantastic. The drinks seem pricier here, and the mango lassie, while good, was just OK. It tasted more like watered down mango. For dessert, we tried the black rice. This is definitely worth trying. It's a heavier dessert and probably a bit much after what felt like an uncomfortable dinner. The coconut sauce that it's sitting in is delicious and I can see why so many people enjoy it, and maybe if the strawberries were tastier the combination of all of the flavors may have made a difference. I definitely think it's something worth trying, but maybe elsewhere, or with different items for dinner.

We found a spot on a side street a block away. This Thai/Laos eatery was dimly lit with a cozy atmosphere. When we arrived, only a few tables were occupied, so we were seated quickly. The wings were quite small, but we got 10 flats. Tasty, but not too spicy. Comparable to the wings you'd get from San Tung or Korean fried chicken wings. 4/5 CHAMPA SAMPLER ~ Lao sausages, fried rice ball salad, & fried spring rolls. Tasty generous platter! It comes with vermicelli noodles and lots of fresh lettuce and herbs so you can make lettuce wraps. Spring rolls were crispy and delicious. I think this was the highlight of our meal. 5/5 LARP LAO STYLE (Duck) SALAD ~ prepared with mint, onions, fish paste, cilantro & Thai eggplants. Alone, the duck is pretty salty. But eating it with the provided lettuce and herbs balanced the flavors and cut the saltiness. Unique and bold flavors. 4/5 PAD THAI ~ thin rice noodles, tamarind, eggs, bean sprouts, and chicken. Flavor was on point, but the noodles were a bit wet and overcooked. 3.5/5 GINGER FISH ~ battered catfish, minced pork, ginger, onions, bell peppers, and mushroom. This tasted more like a Chinese dish. The fish were filet pieces deep fried with a batter covered in a brown sauce. This dish tasted ok, but nothing special. 3.5/5 A few dishes stood out like the Champa sampler and Larp Lao style duck salad. The Tom Kha soup was the highlight of the meal. It was rich, creamy, and full of flavor, with a nice balance of coconut, citrus, and herbs. It was so good that George is still finishing the leftovers today. Between the two of us, we got about four servings out of it, which felt like a great value. Unfortunately, the Pad See Ew was a letdown. The dish was greasy, lacked depth of flavor, and had very little beef. I ended up contacting customer support to request a partial refund because the portion of protein was so disappointing. For a dish like Pad See Ew, you expect tender slices of beef, chewy rice noodles, and a balanced savory and slightly sweet soy flavor with a bit of char from the wok, but this version fell short. Overall, the soup was excellent and worth ordering again, but the noodle dish did not meet expectations. I have heard good things about this place and hope this was just an off day.

Since I have been here before I know the deal and expected the wait. We were seated around 6:40 pm but it was so worth it in our opinions. The shop itself has a good amount of tables with a nice retro Thai feel from its decor. The servers are very nice and friendly but also the food comes out super quick which is what I personally appreciate as well. Here are some highlights from our absolute feast that we demolished (no food was left behind or forgotten). * Nuer nam tok: The medium rare beef was chewy, had the right amount of spice, and paired well with the crunch of the herbs. The saltiness of the meat ate well with the fresh sides of lettuce and cucumbers. * Crispy shrooms with ground pork: The crispy mushrooms were my favorite last time and the version with ground pork was exceptional. The mushrooms had a nice light batter and the sauce coated your mouth with an umami punch. * Drunken noodles: I love the amount of shrimp and calamari they gave! The noodles itself were coated in a semi sweet sauce that had a delicious soy flavor. * Duck curry: WOW the most tender duck dish I ever had, no notes! * Kaya jam with coconut ice cream: Creamy, fluffy, and a great way to end a meal.
