If you just need a pizza...went a couple of weeks ago and this was just a pizza. No seasoning like it normally is with Ledo's pizzas. No red peppers to season it up a little. I ordered a small, took 2 slices, and threw the box in the trash. I was routing for them since they are right around the corner from me. i Came in with my hijab and Asked the grilled chicken salad without bacon. I told her please make sure I don't have bacon. I don't eat pork and then I go to ask her about the lasagna. I've never had it from here before she said yes it's good. I said OK I'll take it. I waited a day. I didn't feel like eating that that night, I took my first bite and realize something was off I took it back and she I told you it had pork in it. I am a muslim that do not eat pork! Firstly it's not a real Ledo's it's a store where you can only get takeout (really). The outside makes you want to steer clear of it and the inside isn't any better. Unfortunately, the pizza wasn't good how you can mess up a simple pie of pepperoni and sausage I don't know. It's not as if it was frozen (or was it?) Can't really speak to service because there's only a guy handing a pizza to you. The new shrimp boat plaza is very nice . Breakfast food is extremely good and made to order . Lunch food is buffet style but still fresh . I've observed clean habits including using gloves to cut up and handle fruit . The ordering process is a little disorganized but regulars learn how to navigate it . never order uber eats if you can drive to this location because it's a serious up charge from the in-store prices . staff is friendly and care about quick service ! i always get the french toast platter which comes with eggs and your choice of meat for $10.99 . read more

I'm so disappointed in this place. I had the chicken and waffles one weekend and they were great. The chicken was seasoned well and fried just right. So I wanted to try something else. I order 1/4 baked chicken with greens and peach cobbler on UberEats and was disappointed. The greens were bland but drowning in black pepper. The cobbler was to sweet and the peaches were hard. As other have mentioned, the Shrimp Boat Plaza is NOT the old Shrimp Boat in any way. New owner, new menu, new everything except for the exterior shell. The new place is a donuts/coffee/fast casual concept with fresh fried donuts, Ethiopian coffee, a hot bar, and made-to-order breakfasts, wraps, and sandwiches. It's clean, bright, and welcoming. The staff are wonderful. So far I have tried the coffee (rich and bold and very hot!) the donuts (extremely good and you can watch them make them in front of you so you know they are right out of the fryer.) and on my latest trip I tried their bacon egg and cheese bagel. They definitely knocked it out of the park on this one. The bagel is gigantic and they are not shy to stuff it full of bacon. My biggest pet peeve about breakfast sandwiches is when they skimp on the bacon, and at Shrimp Boat Plaza they most certainly don't hold back. I live just around the corner, so I'll definitely be a regular customer. It sure is great to have somewhere to grab a quick sandwich to go! read more

Worst excuse for Soul Food I've ever experienced. Collards were uncut and greasy & mushy at the same time. The Salisbury Steak was a luke warm patty reminiscent of Gainsburger with some watery brown liquid masquerading as "hood gravy". The Potato Salad was more like mashed potatoes, but with little trinkets of vegetation dispersed throughout. Plus the isht was $18 OUTRAGEOUS ... Now Shrimp Boat Plaza, went there after work and got some fried chicken wings with green beans and mashed potatoes. And I wasn't expecting it to be this good, I had gone in the past (before they bought it out) and food was greasy. I was really hungry this day and tired and its just a couple steps from the Benning road metro station. They have an extensive variety of food. They even have pizza! And it looks like the desserts are not made in house but they get must get them every day because I went the next day and the delivery truck was there again so definitely fresh. I got the bean pie and its all thumbs up! So in conclusion whether you are running late and want a bite before work or if you had a long day after work this is the place to go to! Prior to the revamp, the shrimp boat was just a place I used as a landmark or just a place I'd pass by coming from the Metro. Once, I realized I've never actually eaten there, I got an order of fried shrimp, but it was to go while someone ran in to get the order for me. The fried shrimp was basic carryout food. I don't know what other seafood was there. I'm saying all of this to say that when I entered the shrimp boat recently, I don't have much to compare it to. This version, Shrimp Boat Plaza, I'm sure is a lot better and offers a lot more! The community is mixed on if they are happy about this change or not. I like the change. It's different, but not a drastic change that it doesn't feel right in the neighborhood-- you know, like a bead jewelry factory or pet accessory store. Those places are welcomed, but in the desert of options, those places aren't a good fit right now. From the outside appearance, I thought more along the lines that there are different vendors with their designated counter space. Food, donuts, MetroPCS. In fact, the food and donuts share a space and Metro PCS has it's own portion of the building as you go through a separate door once you enter the building. I love the fresh donut maker-- the toppings aren't clearly listed out, but the staff work with you. The prepared food on the hot bar is limited and similar to Mid Atlantic soul food/seafood, not the biggest fan. I have not had the food that's made to order, but that sounds like the way to go. I'm terribly disappointed! The food was oddly seasoned (lemon juice) as if to cover up some other worse flavor. My food tasted like baking soda was used in it, which even when soaking food prior to cooking, you should be able to rinse the baking soda taste away (IF THATS WHY IT TASTED THAT WAY TO BEGIN WITH?!). This just saddens me, because it seems like we just can't get anything decent in this community each time some new person comes along trying to "revamp" the Shrimp Boat. This was the ultimate worst!! I got a crab cake that was like 8.99. It look store brought, but I was okay. I bit into it, and there's plastic in my food!! I went back to get a refund, and they're looking like how did the plastic get in between the meat. But they did give me a refund. I'm so glad they renovated this place and gave it a whole new makeover. It was pretty crusty before. No it's a great place to get a nice meal quick and fast. I recommend the baked chicken, stewed beef, turkey wings and the salmon. The breakfast is pretty good too, which they serve all day. I just wish they were open on Sundays. They also offer chitlins, which I understand people around here want....I just wish they didn't cook it in the store. They could cook it somewhere else and bring it in. This is the kind of customer service "east of the river" deserves. There was no bulletproof glass, no dirtiness. The people behind the counter were attentive. When I wasn't sure what to choose between two entrees, I was even given a hot sample of both meats. Got my takeout home and everything was good. Especially the fried shrimp platter. Woo was that good! The fried whiting was the least seasoned, but still tasted good (I'd love more seasoning on it though). The sweet potatoes--keep in mind they're not candied yams, which was my mistake. I took a bite wondering where all the sugar and butter was, then remembered the menu didn't say candied yams! Mac and cheese wasn't "stretches out like that perfect Thanksgiving mac" ooeey gooey, but it was still good. They had way more than that though.
