My husband and I finally made it out to Krab King for dinner, and I'm so glad we did! This place has been on our list for a while, and it did not disappoint. First, the vibe was grown and sexy, just the way we like it. The aesthetic was really nice and set the tone for a great evening. Now let's talk about the staff, because they truly made the experience. From the moment we walked in, Brianna greeted us with such a warm welcome. Our waitress and head chef Nique was incredibly informative and attentive. She really knew her stuff and made sure we were well taken care of. I recently used Krab King as an example that another similar restaurant should take notes from and then I realized, I've never given Krab King it's official kudos..so here it goes! Once you enter, there's a small bar and lounge area that bleeds nicely into a small dining area. It has a contemporary style but nothing over the top. The food is amazing. We've had the crab cakes, crab egg rolls, lamb chops, seafood fried rice and the seafood salmon and each meal had us wanting more... Delicious! Service can be a little slow, so I would recommend having at least one more server, especially Thursday - Sunday! So hear me out... I have driven past this restaurant many times, and have no stopped. My good girlfriend and I went here on a Wednesday evening and ate good! Four drinks between us both, jerk chicken quesadillas, a seafood pasta anddd a seafood fried rice bundle, and we were rolling backkkk to the car. Our server Kay, gave the best recommendations - and we were very vocal in telling her that we agreed with her good eats! (I'll specifically say, their pasta is better the following day lol.) I also want to highlight the fact that this location is bigger than what I expected. From the outside looking in, I wouldn't have thought that the restaurant was as long as it was until entering. Additionally, the establishment is indeed a vibe. Their bathrooms are clean as well, with music blasting (at a good volume, let me be clear) from the front to the back of the room. The only issue that I have with Krab King, is their TWENTY percent gratuity charge. I think 1,000% that that is something that the establishment should advertise on their table, at the bar, on their website, etc. I'm aware and comfortable with 15, even 18% charge when the service is sufficient - but 20... a conversation needs to be had. King Krab has been on my list for a while now, so my friend and I decided to come here to catch up and see what it's all about. It is pretty small here, but the decor is really nice. It is extremely dim so keep that in mind especially I I f you can't see and need your flashlight lol. We went during the day on a Saturday so it was very quiet in the restaurant. We were seated and served immediately. I ordered the hot honey old bay wings and the seafood burger and of course fries. Keep in mind that there's an up charge for the fries that was communicated, I thought I was substituting one out. The seafood burger was so big, I didn't even finish it. The wings were fried very well and I really enjoyed them! I believe my friend ordered the crab cakes and a sandwich. I heard they have a great happy hour here as well, so one day I plan to check that out. I think I can safely call this a hidden gem -- it's right next to the Giant you can clearly see from the main road, but can you see Krab King? Not in the slightest. They have happy hour from 4-7 on weekdays, and late night HH from 10-close on Friday & Saturday... nice! It's a relatively small spot -- I compare it to Crab Cab, but it doesn't feel as tight. And they have karaoke on Thursdays, NICE! We sat at the bar, and the staff was very friendly to us, talking to us on multiple occasions throughout the night, even when it got busier. I didn't get happy hour food, as she told me on the Jerk Krab & Shrimp quesadillas... they were SO SO SO good... a great way to spend $19. I've walked past Krab King several times in the last few years - finally made it a point to pay them a visit and I'm glad I did! The spot is bigger than it looks from the outside (but it's definitely not a large restaurant). A friend and I stopped in for happy hour on Friday around 5:45. Their HH runs from 4-7 on Monday through Friday. They also offer a late night happy hour on Friday and Saturday nights 10pm - close which I think is really fun. The happy hour menu is limited, but there are still solid options. $7 cocktails, $6 beer and wines, $12 small plate bites. The overall ambiance is great; well decorated space with a small bar that seats 6ish guests. Some nice RnB and hip hop playing through the restaurant to keep the vibes up. Very cool to have this modern, comfortable space in Upper Marlboro. The happy hour drinks were perfect; I had a margarita, hurricane, and the moscow mule. Each was made perfectly - shoutout Dominque! I had the sweet chili wings and fries (the menu says seasoned fries, but they were just regular salted fries). The chicken was hot and crispy on the outside; the sauce was a nice combination of spicy and sweet. The fries were absolutely delicious - hot, crispy, and fresh. I may have liked the fries more than the wings, though both were great. I would love to give a full five star review, but service seemed a little slow at times. The restaurant wasn't particularly crowded (maybe 15-20 guests at its max), but this number of guests seemed to really slow down the bar. There was only one bartender to make drinks for the folks at the bar as well as the rest of the restaurant. Not to mention that the majority of folks were ordering happy hour cocktails, which all have several ingredients and steps to make. I'd be concerned about the pace of drink service if the spot was more crowded. Looking forward to my next visit - happy hour is definitely the way to go here with the specials. Stopped here today around 730-8pm looking for eats, the inside is small and full (including the bar area) so making a reservation is your best bet. I wouldn't have found this place just driving by because it's listed in a shopping center that I've only known to house a giant. The wait was 30mins so we opted to carry out instead. Dropped my daughter off at practice and decided to venture here since my wife and I had time to kill. We arrived around 1:30 on a Sunday. We arrived and I thought they were closed. The food came fairly fast but once again, there wasn't anyone else inside. I ordered the Seafood Grits which comes with cheesy grits, "Colossal Crab Meat and Fried Whiting". If you see the Colossal Crab meat in the grits let me know. The whiting was a little tough. They do not offer tartar sauce but a nice version of King Crab sauce which I liked. I also ordered a side of potatoes which were good. My wife ordered the chicken and waffles. The chicken was decent. Lacked flavor and seasoning but the presentation was on point. So after a few phone calls to verify that their online system was finally accepting orders, I placed a very large order for pickup- 4- 5oz crab cake dinners, 2 blackened salmon, 2 starter samplers: 12 wings and 6 fried colossal shrimp, and 2 orders of seafood mac and cheese. And whoo, this was a bit expensive, but the food was quality. Everything was very tasty and was a decent portion size. It's located in a quiet shopping center across from nipseys and a car dealership off 301 headed towards route 4. My one friend complained that the portions were small but I thought for $14 wings and fries consisting of 6 wings and a small fry was the norm. I ordered the surf and turf which came with a crab cake, lamp chops, rice and asparagus. The crab cake was one of the best I've ever had it was flavorful which most at other places have the lump but still no taste. The asparagus was cooked to perfection, now for the rice I didn't care for it as it was a bit mushy and was served with a weird sweet and bitter balsamic glaze on it. A black owned and newly opened seafood restaurant in the Upper Marlboro area? Sign me up! I heard about King Krab from a couple of other people, but apparently I was living under a rock because I had no clue they had a food truck for some time before opening the restaurant. We decided to give them a try on a Sunday afternoon. We were greeted very nicely by the staff. KK has a nice size bar and seating inside for a cozy restaurant vibe, with tv's stationed at the bar. The menus are paperless, so you can pull them up on your phone using the barcodes provided at the tables. Since we were placing a to-go order, we were told to leave our number and someone would call once our order was ready. We ordered the smoked salmon with asparagus and mac and cheese, the lemon pepper crab cake dinner with asparagus and mac and cheese, some wings, fries and shrimp. It took probably 25 minutes or so for our order to be complete. I truly appreciate the staff wearing hair nets AND beard nets! Read that again...BEARD NETS! They were all masked up and wearing gloves. They were also very polite. They would speak whenever passing us and asked if we needed assistance. Wonderful customer service! We took the food home and I was rather impressed by the smoked salmon. Very good. The crab cakes were also a huge hit. The asparagus was tasty, a bit too thick for my liking though and the shrimp was really good as well. The mac and cheese was average, at best and so were the wings. They didn't really have a variety of side dishes, but they just opened, so that's very understandable. Hopefully, that will change in the future. Is it pricey...yes, but it's seafood and that's to be expected. Is it the best seafood I've ever had, no, but for the most part it was enjoyable. I wish this restaurant much success in the future! They already have a large IG and FB following and of course word of mouth following, so I'm sure they'll thrive! First time here. 8pm Wednesday, not busy.cant sit at tables, only bar...ok NBD. Order crab toast and asparagus, lemonade. 6 people 'working', 1 bartender/server. Had to ask for everything,NBD. Food was good. Got bill, no details just total, I add 20% tip. $43.80??? Since my original review and experience unfortunately things have changed and not for the better. Shrinkflation is definitely in effect. I ordered a margarita and asked for the cost of it with grand marnier, I was quoted one price then charged for double. My husband and I both ordered the happy hour wings and fries. We received 5 wings and collectively they could fit in the palm of our hand. The size of the wings were way smaller than what we previously experienced. In addition, I ordered the honey old bay wings and my husband ordered the honey jerk wings, when we received the bill there was an additional charge of $1 added for the jerk wings despite the up charge was not referenced on the menu. The server did remove the charge after we pointed the discrepancy out. Last, the gratuity was automatically added, for two people at the bar, doing a week day happy hour experience (Thursday 6pm), without any indication of mentioning this was an automatic charge!! We've eaten at Krab King several times, and there was never an automatic gratuity. Respectfully, tips are earned not guaranteed. While we enjoyed the restaurant when they first opened, clearly things have changed, staffing has changed, the ambiance and experience has changed, and not for the better. Krab King has amazinggggg food and this place is very aesthetically pleasing. My only issue is that this place is VERY small. The seating is SUPER small. I literally felt like I was sitting at a kids' table eating dinner. If you have a little weight on you, don't go here. Otherwise, everything else is great.
