Our house is almost 60 years old. For at lest the last 37 years a large portion of the floors have been covered in wall to wall carpeting. We decided it was time to ditch carpet and enjoy the natural beauty of the original oak floors.
We found Leandro through HomeAdvisor.com at the end of June 2015. He came out and gave us a bid. At the time I explained that it would be several weeks until we would be ready to do the floors, we had to do a re-pipe first. It turns out that my daughter who has recently done a large-scale home remodel had Leandro bid on her floors and she wanted him to work but she needed someone at a certain date; he was booked for quite some time.
One time problem leads to another and finally the stars aligned and Leandro was able to start our work this past Monday. He works alone, no other crew, at least on "small jobs" such as ours, a kitchen, dining room, living room and hall. He works hard. Leandro assured me that he "does not make dust." Well, I had done a refinish on the kitchen and dining room about 20 years ago and I produced plenty of dust. Let me tell you, Leandro has a special vacuum attached to his sanders and buffers that pick up the dust. We had perhaps the same amount of dust we would find after a typical week in the home.
Our floor has some issues, some stains present from carpet shampooing that bleeds through, a leaky water connection to the refrigerator and a spot by the the bathroom where years ago we had a problem with a toilet that would overflow. Leandro did a great job in taking care of those problems. Are they all perfect? No. It is a 60 year old home and the floor has some character. A nice job was done adding some trim around the hearth of the fireplace.
We went with a satin finish as opposed to high gloss or semi-gloss. The explanation from Leandro was that on the older floors, the gloss finish tends to show the imperfections more. We are very happy with finish and the quality of the work.
We will not hesitate to call him again. read more
