Unjust Reshelving Fee for Faulty Prescription - A Case of Elder Financial Exploitation…read more I'm writing this review to raise awareness about a deeply troubling experience with an optician that I believe constitutes elder financial abuse. After receiving prescription lenses that caused significant dizziness and discomfort--symptoms that can be especially dangerous for older adults--I returned to the provider seeking a resolution. Instead of acknowledging the error or offering a full refund, I was charged a $159 reshelving fee simply for returning lenses that were unusable due to causing dizziness. I was told to sign paperwork on my initial visit and had no knowledge of reshelving fee. I did not order my lenses until weeks later. This fee was not disclosed upfront, nor was it justified by any service rendered. Charging a vulnerable patient for a product that compromised their safety is not just unethical--it borders on exploitation. According to the Florida Department of Elder Affairs, financial abuse includes unfair charges and deceptive practices that target older adults. This experience fits that definition. If you or a loved one are navigating vision care, I urge you to ask for all fees in writing, verify prescriptions thoroughly, and report any suspicious practices to your local elder protection agency. Providers must be held accountable when their actions jeopardize both health and trust. I brought a caregiver with me and still got taken advantage of.

The oddest eye exam by Mittelman EYE in WB. I went to Mittelman Eye with my husband last week. We…read moreboth needed glasses. My exam took 3 hours. My husband's longer than that. There was just one doctor seeing patients. Both my husband and were told we would NOT get glasses prescriptions after the THREE HOURS spent there, mostly waiting. The reason for this very odd inability to get a prescription after the exam was explained to both of us by different employees. The reason was that they would bill our Medicare and secondary insurance for the exams. In the next few days, or next day, we would RETURN to Mittelman Eye and have a 5 minute "exam" where Mittelman would use our separate VISION CARE INSURANCE and we would then receive a prescription for eye glasses. I questioned this, the repeated procedure, the useless second exam. The billing of THREE different insurance companies to get a very simple reading prescription for one eye. A clerk tried to brain wash me comparing my eye doctor visit to a Primary Care visit. I retorted by saying "I go to the Primary Care doctor and there is no need to return the next day and BILL another insurance company for the SAME EXAM". Conclude what you will. Needless to say l immediately decided not to go back. Today I received a letter in the mail from Mittelman Eye stating they will no longer accept me as a patient because we have "Different philosophies". We certainly do. It is no wonder our insurance premiums keep climbing due in part to this kind of practice. No stars, but I must rate it 1!
