Installing Leaf Filter has been a nightmare. At this point, the only thing that can be done to earn a single star is a full refund.
I had Leaf Filter installed around January, 2020.
The first problem was that they were unable to be installed in a section of gutter that, interestingly enough, is also the hardest gutter to clean. I should have cancelled it all then.
The filters have constantly failed to stay clean, allowing water to overflow the filters. This mostly happens on inside corners where water rolls down through the roof valleys. People have come out many times in an attempt to fix the problem- adding diverting flashing (which caused more debris to be retained), removing flashing, moving flashing around. The angle of the filters was blamed, and adjusted all around, but problems remained. Large sections of filter was replaced, with "newer/better" product. Problems remained.
I asked- how many times do you need to come out and not fix stuff before you give up and give me a refund? I was never given a straight answer- not from the local/regional managers, nor the corporate office warranty agents.
Ultimately I was told that I needed different "super" corners in my gutters to handle the volume of water coming off of my roof in the inside corners. Also told that they weren't compatible with my existing gutters, and that I would need all new gutters, all around, at my expense.
If i didn't get new gutters, I was offered quarterly cleanings for the existing filters, but there was nothing else that could be done. No willingness to provide a refund.
Feeling that there were no other options, I agreed for the new gutters to be installed. I was told I was getting "a good deal" but I found out later that I ended up paying for all labor and materials for the new gutters.
It took several visits to get the gutters and new filters installed. I asked the local supervisors to ensure that they were installed correctly. Several revisions were made.
The gutters leaked. In several spots. It took 3-4 more visits to correct the leaks. The last one of these visits was today, so I'm not sure if it has been resolved.
The new "super corners" still overflowed. More flashing was added. At least one corner is still overflowing. For resolution, I was told to call and have someone come out to clean the filters whenever needed. At first I was told they would do it quarterly, but after seeing the problem today, was told that I could call anytime and they would come out.
The last time I called, for this last leak, it took them a month to come out- earlier appointments were not available. Having my gutters overflowing for a month, in the wet Pacific Northwest, is unacceptable.
I feel like the whole solution was not viable for my property and structure. It was promised that I would not need to clean my gutters, which I was doing 2 times a year. Now I have to clean my gutter filters potentially more than once a month in the winter.
Paying to replace my gutters was a waste of time and money. The new gutters with new corners exhibit the same failures as before- overflowing in the inside corners.
At this point I want the filters removed and a full refund of the original cost as well as the additional payment I made to Leaf Filter for new gutters. read more
