Every sip felt like a reward for simply existing. Also tried something called "False Spring," which has carrot juice in it (I know, I had questions too). But somehow it works! It's fresh, a little sweet, and makes you feel like you've made a good life decision--even if you're just ordering coffee in pajamas. Everything arrived perfectly and tasted like someone actually cared while making it. 10/10, would absolutely order again and pretend I'm a sophisticated person with a refined palate.

As we made our way up to order at the inside counter, I realized that the outside menu had been outdated and we had to choose completely different drinks. I went with the El Platform, and my husband had the False Spring ($7.50 each). We also got a Feta Tortilla ($13.65) that was tasty. It's nice and spacious inside with outside tables as well. I love the idea of Frothtails, and I hope they bring back the Royale with Cheese so I can try it!

While reading I saw that Metric in Chicago was on the list. And that was the sign this place had to be a must try! Came here on a Saturday morning. I walked a few miles from downtown to the neighborhood this place is in. It is in an industrial part town of area. Kind of reminds me of the west bank of the flats area or temont type of area we have in Cleveland. The shop itself is not very big. However the coffee, is absolutely incredible. While there I met Cara . She was so friendly and knowledgeable. I mentioned that the reason for making the walk to this place was to see how it measured with award of top 100 shop. From there I got my espresso. Amazing. Just amazing! Cara also took the time explain the cupping process. And how Metric gets their beans. The educational experience for a coffee nerd like myself was . And then getting a chance to do the cupping was icing on the cake!!! I'm very glad that I got to experience this gem of a shop. I truly understand why it's top . When in Chicago, for any coffee lover/nerd. Come here. I promise you will love it!!! https://theworlds100bestcoffeeshops.com/locales/metric/

They have the best morning bagels I have ever had! Sure, I could put cream cheese, onion, tomato and cucumber on one at home but it is NOT the same! I have tried! Whatever they do to make their bagels is so much better than the store bought ones I can find. Not to mention that I love their scones! I might sound like I have a food problem but I love their morning bagels with a blueberry scone for later and top it all off with a vanilla latte. The service is always pretty quick, the staff is very friendly and if you eat there they play pretty good music. There are only like 6 seats inside but they also have an outdoor area too for summer.

Service leaves something to be desired as we received a completely wrong item and we didn't find out until we traveled far away. Frustrating, but it did taste nice. Overall I do recommend stopping by and supporting this offshoot of the original Jumping Bean Cafe, but it's definitely not as good as the first location.

Fully stocked pastries and options, great customer service and HOT tea!!! My visit today Saturday 2/28 @3pm CST was VERY disappointing not only for me. Let's get into it. I was second in line I paid for my croissants and stepped aside while I waited for my Honey Lavender Matcha. The 2 girls in front of me was also waiting. One left she too ordered the same tea. The second girl in front of me was checking her order and noticed (2) Honey Lavender Matcha (cold) on the screen and they removed it. Gave her her order and she left. I'm still standing and waiting and the girl with the duplicate tea on her order returns and says you didn't give me my tea. My drink is finished and my matcha cup is not hot. I take a sip and it's tasteless and luke warm. I didn't feel like more waiting I left and heated it up at home. These two cashiers need more coaching on QA quality assurance is important when it's not included it causes customer service to drop quite a bit. I know this was a one off bad experience which is why I'm rating this place 5. However if it was my first time visiting this franchise they would've gotten a 2 out of 5. They advertise hot tea mine was not.

This store is super clean w/the pastries displayed in plexiglass cubicles. The same set up w/a tray, paper on the tray & tongs to select the pastries. Like all the TLJ's they have a selection of coffees & teas to complement the pastries. The store itself is brightly lit & has ample seating.

My new favorite coffee shop... ever?? It was so good I managed to fit it in TWICE in a short trip…read more And have NOT shut up about it since I came back!! Military latte ($7.25)-- matcha and espresso mixed together with milk I don't know what sorcery they put in this but it's SO GOOD!! like matcha and espresso had a baby idk but they kept all the good parts of each other and balance each other out. For example, the matchy isn't earthy or chalky like some places or fake like the Starbucks one. The espresso isn't sour or burnt. And somehow when you combine both of them it's this perfect mellow blend but has the slight bitterness of both matcha/espresso where you're like "ah yes it's not just milk" that flavor really pulls through. But again it's mellow and blends together sooooo well like perfect mesh my goodness. Doesn't overpower doesn't feel like you're drinking matcha and coffee at the same time. It just becomes like a new thing altogether and that thing is glorious. The first time I got it iced (and the black camo latte hot) and all I could think about was how much better it would be hot.... So I had to come back for it !! And it ISSSS better hot. I enjoy hot lattes the hot milk and lack of ice is smoother and blends it together better or something. Obviously the iced version wasn't bad because I still had a great time... but when I came back for the second time and got it hot like YESSS THIS IS IT !!! Black camo latte ($7.25)-- same as Military but instead of matcha it's hojicha mixed with espresso! I took sips of this (as opposed to it being my own drink) and thought it was good! Really depends on if you like the taste of matcha or hojicha more. This one is deeper and richer, more earthy. Maybe even caramelized roast kinda flavor? Buuuut I know hojicha isn't for everyone so take it with a grain of salt. The combo with espresso is magical though like whatever ratio they're using is so perfect. It really blends together so well. ANDDDD here the coffee:milk ratio is so good!! No milky watered down lattes! I'm so used to having to add espresso shots or asking for less milk because coffee shops really be wildin in this economy but this place has a good ratio! Like yes wow we still have good things I love this for us. Matcha lemonade ($7)-- So absurdly sour I took one sip and that was enough for me!!! You really have to be a lemonade person like if that's your drink of choice to quench your thirst on a hot day then this is for you!! If you don't drink lemonade on the regular then I really wouldn't bother. I think this is a collab with a charity or something? Up your vitamin C for a good cause I guess. Cortado ($4.50)-- Espresso and milk, small cup, good test of their espresso and yesssss it passes with flying colors. And again, this place has their milk ratio down to a science. Perfectly balanced, not too much milk and you still taste all the coffee. Love love loveeeeee this place and would absolutely love an LA location. Until then, guess I'll have to plan another Chicago trip to get this goodness again !!!

I think Sawada is a little more overhyped than I would've liked…read more The Military Latte was pretty good, and I really appreciated that they offered macadamia milk! That said, the matcha itself wasn't necessarily the best matcha I've ever had. I think there was just too much milk in the drink, so I couldn't really enjoy the matcha and hojicha notes. It was enjoyable, but not memorable enough to justify all the hype - or the price. I really liked the ambiance, and the baristas were genuinely kind. They were also very willing to adjust or remake a drink when needed, which I appreciated. Overall, it's a cute spot with great service, but I genuinely cannot accept the price-to-drink ratio. I'm glad I tried it, but I don't think it lived up to the hype.

Ground Up has officially become my "accidentally ordered too many coffees again" place--and…read morehonestly, no regrets. The cappuccino freddo is the star of the show. It's smooth, perfectly foamy, and dangerously drinkable. I order multiple every time because apparently I believe I'm running a small coffee distribution center from my home. Every single one arrives amazing. No weak links. Just great coffee across the board. The spinakopita pastry deserves its own fan club--golden, flaky, warm, and packed with spinach and feta in that perfect savory balance. It's the kind of pastry that makes you pause mid-bite and go, "okay... this is really good." And the blueberry muffin gets an honorable mention because it quietly does its job extremely well--moist, full of blueberries, and not overly sweet. The reliable supporting actor of the order. Bottom line: if you're ordering from Ground Up, maybe plan on getting more than one coffee... because you'll probably wish you had anyway.

A cute cafe with lots of seating inside and friendly baristas, a great find overall!…read more My friend and I were at the farmers market nearby and popped into Ground Up afterwards. I love a specialty latte so the Honey Bee latte caught my eye and oof, delicious but maybe a little too sweet for me. I think with an extra shot of espresso and a little less sweetener it would have been PERFECT, but as is, it was just a little too weak and a little too sweet. My friend got the banana coffee from the same specialty menu and felt the same way. This is one of her favorite spots in town, so definitely good coffee and worth another visit, but I might stay away from the specialty drinks menu. We also got a spanakopita as a quick bite and that was a hit!
