Not my first time to a Steak Frites, but this was the better experience. I enjoyed a cozy atmosphere and overall great food. You can bring your own wine, which for me means I can afford to spend more on apps! Our waitress was very helpful when deciding on what cut of meat to order. I thought I was going for the filet, but she had made the Steak Frites sound pretty good so the Steak Frites it was. While waiting for the beef we ordered the salmon tartare. As far as salmon tartares go, it was a salmon tartare and that's it. An itty bitty portion of tartare with a couple of baguette crisps. Meh. The beef was far from a disappointment. I found the Steak Frites, a cut from the inner shoulder, was more enjoyable than the filet mignon. Much more savoury and juicy, and almost as tender as the filet. Aside from taste, my steak was cooked like I asked (rare)... A sometimes a rare experience for certain other steak houses. Be assured, your steak is in good hands here. The fries are well seasoned with salt and make a perfect companion with the steak. Oh! And the steak can be ordered with 1 of 3 sauces. I chose the mushroom sauce. A good choice. Dessert: profiterole. One profiterole ice cream sandwhich with a chocolate drizzle. It was good. From what I tasted of the other desserts, the lava cake maintained a gooey and cakey texture; the creme brulée wasn't impressing - nothing special. Had a great steak. Everything else was average. Would come here to eat again with a group, not so much on my own.

Steak Frites is a steakhouse where you're encouraged to bring your own wine. The ambiance of the place is very nice and can be used for fancy get togethers with friends/family and even in a romantic setting. I warn you to not come here without a reservation because you'll be turned away from the door, it has happened to me... with most of the resto being empty. Reserving the same day requires you to call in and hope they call you back before your plans come into fruition. In my case, call them at noon and get a call back nearly at 4 for a 5:30 reservation. This can be very inconvenient unless you really plan ahead. Reserving online is an option as well, as long as you do it beforehand. Ordering is a little bit different as well, the online website has no menu per say, just pictures of various plates. When you're seated, they don't give you a menu that's just a simple table d'hote with a few options. Anything else, they encourage you to look at the various types of chalkboards in the resto (sometimes forced to leave your seat to actually read them...) to find something you want. The description is pretty bland with with the item and the price-tag beside it. For example "Steak Frites = $26" or "Ribs = $24". To find out what exactly it is you ask your waiter what it consists of and hope for the best. I went with their Steak Frites option which consisted of a few greens with a acceptable cut of meat (I believe it was frank steak) that I choose to be cooked medium-rare. The fries are free refills and are quite excellent! For the price, I would have liked the cut of meat to be a bit bigger, considering the price-tag. However, it was succulent and flavorful albeit cooked a little too raw for it to be perfection. The pepper side-sauce this meal came with wasn't for me. For dessert, I went with the creme brulee which was very good and a cappuccino which was very well prepared. The service was good and we weren't rushed while we ate. The price-tag for what I ate was quite high. While I truly enjoyed the fries and creme brulee, the main meal was only decent and I didn't feel that it was worth over $50 for a single person with no drinks other than the cappuccino. I feel their profit margins for their menu can be reduced to be far more competitive to other Steakhouses that are located very closely to this place.... but hey... that's just me. I'd recommend to try it out at least once.

Bumped into this place for lunch on a whim. At 12:30 was able to walk right in and seat myself. I asked for something local and got the Steak Poutine- which seems to me to be a Canadian version of chili cheese fries, but better of course. The whole experience was affordable and good for lunch.

    Duck Breast. Absolutely outrageous!

Service was good, I think we were near closure but we had 3 different waiter that were all very polite. They were helping each other and I think that's how it should be everywhere. Don't have a specific waiter for a table. Have one take the order and have everyone take care of everyone. I know it's not like that at that place, but it was during that moment. As for the food, everything was great. They did change a while ago the baked beans recipe, I still prefer the older one but they had it better today. It was less sugary. Ribs are always good although the half rack is a lot of time always a very small rack with not much meats. The fries were good but it seems the seasoning didn't taste anything (while I could clearly see the seasoning on them). Too bad cause I really love the fries seasoning here. We took the cheddar cheese dip at first, a must to share that come with tortilla chips. It's not on the menu and it's not available at all location, but this one have it.

No more wonderful steak Philly on the Friday. Most of what was offered on that daily menu is permanently gone. They added many different poutine that actually existed before but part of a secret menu you could learn from their social network page. Some starter too. They change the recipe of some of the food. The Mac N cheese is now more creamier and the cheese is more present and flavourful. I never had it by itself, but in the poutine Mac TeX, it's a miss for me. It used to be the poutine I always take when I go there, poutine Mac TeX. Tried it 4 times already since the switch, always the same and I don't like it unfortunately. Maybe others don't. From the post they made on Instagram stating that it was now creamier due to popular demand, I guess that's how people like it. But I think people was taking it by itself and not into a poutine (I never see much people eating a mac te when I'm there). Also the new Mac N cheese on the Mac TeX make it you taste nothing except the creamy liquid cheese from the Mac N cheese, nothing else. I normally add the homemade steak sauce available on the table in the poutine and when I tried it with the new recipe, it wasn't good. I also trie the dirty Poutine. I totally forgot what it is. There's like 2 sauce, I think it's meat sauce? Sorry I really forget. It was good, but about half way through, I was done with the taste just like the current Mac TeX. I still finished it though. Again, it's not bad, everyone has different taste and I started by liking it. I had the same experience when eating the smashburger poutine after eating a smash burger. Don't do it, take either one, not both unless your really into the taste of smashburger cause that's the only thing you taste. Last time I went, I took again the smashburger double cheese and bacon, a must for me, and I took a regular poutine. First time in what, 2 years and at least 30 visit that I take the regular one. It was good. I do miss my og Mac TeX but it's a good replacement. The bonus is it cost about 10$ less and fill less, so I was able to take something off the desert menu for the first time. I toon the chocolate cake and it was very good. The service is always good when I go there. It might be a bit a miss when it's overbooked specially if your table is hidden In a corner (happened a bit in the past). The only reason I bring from 5 to 4 stars is only because I prefered the old menu and old recipe. I did talk to a staff last time about the Mac TeX recipe and was told sometime it's because of new chef. I guess he wasn't aware that the recipe actually change, he did seemed new since I hadn't seen him before. I'll talk to jack or one of the owner last time, not to bad mouth, simply to have feedback from customer on the menu.

Our server was really good and the food was really good. We tried the non-alcoholic guava mule. The guava was nice and sweet and complimented the spicy of the ginger beer. We ordered a French onion soup, steak Diane, and a beef Wellington. The entrees came with choice of salad. We tried one of each , house Gibby salad and the blue cheese wedge. This was a lot of food for us. The French onion soup was my favorite, good flavor, lots of onions and that nice browned cheese top. Both salads were good, the house salad was a little lighter since the blue cheese wedge salad had a rich blue cheese dressing and bacon bits on top. The steak and beef Wellington was also good. In general, we ordered medium rare, it was a little bit rarer than I expected but not I'd edible. So something to think about if you need your meat to be cooked more. The prices seemed fair for a steakhouse and for the amount of food we ate.

For $89 per 6oz serving, I expect the meat will be cooked perfectly and of top-notch quality. The bread served with escargot is hard and chewy; scallop soup is lumpy and lukewarm; the double down foie gras is just two pieces of hard bread which barely has any foie gras; duck breast sliced into 6 thin pieces serves with breakfast sausage; the meat is cold, covered by a gluey sauce; the presentation is disastrous. Asparagus is cold, and the cheese sauce on top is cold too. Maybe it's supposed to be cold? But it is weird to serve as a side of a meat course.
