I had been wanting to have duck since arriving in Paris but hadn't had a chance to - I'm so glad I waited until here because it was incredible. I was honestly surprised when I got there because there were not many people, but that was a good thing since I was expecting to not even be able to get a table. Best french onion soup I've ever had, with a broiled cheesy crust, flavorful broth, and big chunks of bread in the soup that soaked all of the rich flavors from the soup. Great spot for a quick lunch, very close to the Eiffel Tower. While this place seems busy and loud, it's really well organised and people get fed and out of there pretty quickly. Prices are reasonable, considering proximity to tourist areas around, and food is very good indeed. Looking for our first Paris typical stop with good food and wine, a nice upbeat crowd and somewhere close to our hotel for the first day, we nailed it here. We saw Le Recruitment down about a half mile walk from our hotel and looked like the perfect spot. Busy, lively indoor and outdoor seating and a great menu and plenty of wine choices. We walked in and this place was hoppin. Mixed crowd of happy dining and drinking type crowd. Mario greeted us and took us under his wing from the start. It was clear we didn't speak French but he was completely on the same page and he spoke great English and knew why we were there. He sat us in a great table next to a window and away from the noise as a suggestion knowing we were in that mood to enjoy each other and try out our first Paris experience. Mario actually is from St. Martain so he had experience dealing with others outside of France. We wanted a good bottle of Bordeaux and recommended a perfect 2015 (28 euro), a cheese, meat platter to pair it and for my wife and I to share, a fabulous Escargot appetizer. We were dying for our first escargot meal and Mario delivered. We really wanted recommendations and as I told him I saw duck on the menu he insisted I had the duck breast as the best. Served with a small Garvey side, the duck was sliced up into a nice portion with roasted potatoes. He nailed it. My wife had a juicy quarter chicken over polenta. Perfect. We were so relaxed and just getting into the Paris scene and because of all the "negative attitude" talk of how the French seem to dislike Americans who don't speak French, at least this place dispelled all that from the get go. Not only Mario seemed happy to spend time talking to us about the area, but all the other employees were friendly and even posed for pictures. It was a great scene here and for it being our first dining experience in Paris we felt some relief. We'd come back again if we had the time but want to explore some other spots. I would hope we would get treated the same. Drinks or dinner with a show! Le Recruitment still makes one of the best Croque Madame in Paris, plus this is favorite spot to watch the changing colors of the sunset and the lights of the Eiffel Tower. People come to this corner to take photos of the Lady of Steel, but I'd rather have a front row seat, drinking a glass of Chablis munching on the free peanuts. Ahh, the infamous restaurant that gets a lot of attention because the view of the Eiffel Tower. We accidentally walked by this place and realized it wasn't that far from where we stayed. We walked by it enough that we decided to give it a try. Is it for the view only or are their food is also good. We sat outside as it was less crowded and not many people were sitting outside, AND not smoking, unlike the other cafes (thank goodness!). It was a bit cold, so probably no one wanted to sit outside. It took a while for us to order, I think only one waiter was working both inside and outside. When we did, I got the chicken, chorizo risotto and he got the burger. I might say, the risotto and chicken was very flavorful and when you bite into the chorizo....wow, another level of flavor. It's a very thin sliced, but a mighty kick to your mouth. I enjoyed the whole meal. I think the burger was just a burger, probably nothing like what we're used to, but nonetheless, he finished it. They have heaters above us, hence the redness in our pictures. Overall, I don't mind coming back here for the food. You don't really get the view of Eiffel unless you're across the street or sitting on the side of the restaurant, which I'm not even sure if the view is blocked by some vines or bushes. read more
