Terrible experience my first time coming to this store. First, I googled for the address and store hours and got this:
Address: 321 Clarkson Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11226
Hours: Open today · 10AM-7:30PM
So, I figured I had plenty of time when I arrived at 5:35pm, with a published closing time of 7:30! Before trying to go in, I did notice a huge sign at the entrance window, stating a closing time of 6pm (which I see here on Yelp). I didn't know which it was, but at least I would have at least 20 minutes to shop. On the door I saw different hours again on a small sign, claiming they closed at 5:45. Frustrating, but I took a train ride specially (which involved switching trains and walking), so at least a quick 10 minute shop... Nope! Door locked. People inside shopping still but they wouldn't let me in. Wouldn't even speak to me. When I managed to get myself in the store (a child opened from inside to let her mom in), I explained politely that I'd come specially by train and didn't want to waste the fare and time. I pointed out the big store hours sign and that googling had given me 7:30 closing (which they had no clue about). They didn't care and said that's only for customers already inside!!! I told them (with other customers agreeing with me) that it's not legal to have published store hours with signage, but lock customers out 25 minutes before closing. They could not have been more rude. Totally didn't care. Obnoxious. I spoke to the manager over the phone, who wasn't rude to me, but didn't seem to understand that it's absolutely not allowed to do what they were doing. Her excuse - it's a big store so the staff need time to clean up!!! At the very least, they should have refunded my wasted subway fare! Disgusted. Plenty other thrift stores... read more
