We'd been counting down for two months -- the reservation was tough to get -- but today was finally our day to eat at the legendary Le Plongeoir in Nice. This isn't just any seaside restaurant. It's perched dramatically on top of a rock at the end of an old diving platform, a relic from the late 19th century when locals and high-society travelers would dive into the sea from a wooden pavilion built right above the water. Back then, this was the place to see and be seen along the Riviera. The elegant "plongeoir" (literally, "the diving board") was restored into the restaurant it is today, keeping that same spirit of Riviera glamour -- just with better food and no one belly-flopping into the sea. We were seated right on the lower terrace -- basically on the rock itself -- for our 1:30 p.m. reservation, ocean spread wide before us. It's a two-hour slot, but it felt timeless. Below, swimmers and snorkelers floated lazily, while sailboats, skulls, and the occasional motorized surfboard skimmed across the glittering blue water. The Mediterranean really does know how to show off. We started with an octopus salad that was tender and smoky, and zucchini flowers so delicate they almost felt like a sin to eat. For the main, fresh sea bass -- perfectly crisped skin, soft flaky center -- and for dessert, a white chocolate mousse and strawberry tart that pretty much ruined all future desserts for me. The service was warm and unpretentious, the kind where you feel like you've been coming there for years. Honestly, it was probably the best meal we've had in Nice -- maybe anywhere. (And that's saying something; my all-time greats include a cowboy ribeye and a swordfish steak, both thanks to dear friends from the Tournament of Roses/Rose Bowl days.) When the bill came -- 221 euros -- it felt like the price of a memory, not a meal. I sat there a little too long, full, happy, and reluctant to leave that perfect spot on the sea. One day, we'll be back.
El lugar es espectacular. Literalmente estás comiendo sobre el mar, con las olas debajo y una vista impresionante de la costa de Niza. Es uno de esos sitios que te dejan sin palabras apenas llegas -- el ambiente, la brisa, la luz al atardecer... todo se siente muy especial y romántico. La comida está buena, especialmente los platos de mariscos y pescados frescos, aunque sinceramente lo que más vale la pena es la experiencia completa. Los precios son altos, pero es parte del encanto del lugar -- más por la vista y el ambiente que por la comida en sí. El servicio fue amable y atento, aunque algo lento cuando el restaurante está lleno. Aun así, todo el equipo es muy educado y tratan de hacerte sentir cómoda. En resumen: si buscas una cena inolvidable frente al mar y una experiencia muy Côte d'Azur, este lugar vale totalmente la pena. Solo hay que ir sabiendo que pagas más por la magia del sitio que por un menú espectacular.
Hands down one of the most uniquely located restaurants in Nice, perched dramatically above the sea, it offers an absolutely stunning ambiance that sets the tone for a memorable evening. Our meal got off to a slow start both in terms of the starters and the service. We ordered the tuna sashimi and the grilled octopus, and unfortunately, both were underwhelming. The flavors didn't quite deliver, and given the restaurant's reputation, we expected more. Olives in the octopus dish for example made it way more salty and underwhelmed the grilled taste altogether and as well the octopus had a more after taste to it. There was also a noticeable delay in receiving our entrees, which tested our patience a bit. However, when the food finally arrived, it was well worth the wait. The rigatoni was rich and full of flavor, and the sea bass was perfectly cooked along with the other veggies though the olives could have been done away with from the dish, fresh, delicate, and beautifully plated. Lucas, our host, was truly fantastic, friendly, professional, and attentive throughout the evening. His service made a big difference in our overall experience. To finish, we shared a lemon tart, and it was flawless bright, tangy, and a perfect ending to the meal. In summary, despite the slow service and disappointing starters, the incredible setting, excellent mains, delicious dessert, and outstanding service from Lucas made it a night to remember. Worth visiting, just come with a bit of patience and choose your dishes carefully.
Vibe, location, view. This place has it all. It was one of the few spots I knew I had to visit while planning our trip, so we made a reservation for lunch on the day we arrived. The views were absolutely breathtaking. Not sure why the food gets a bad rap. I had the sashimi tuna and the flavors were delish, and the octopus was great too. What an amazing way to start our vacation!
if you're visiting Nice, you definitely need to add this spot to your list -- even if it's just for the views & vibes. TIP: i would recommend making a reservation during the day/closer to summer because the tide gets pretty high so the restaurant puts up plastic screens, which obstructs the view. also you need to secure a reservation way in advance! they seat people in the best seats based on when the reservation was made. what we ordered: - sea bream ceviche with kumquat, roasted almonds and tangy citrus marinade - refreshing, perfect starter because it gets your taste buds going - rigatoni with summer truffles - appreciated the size and amount of truffles. personal favorite! - grilled cod fillet, bouillabaisse jus, braised fennel, fondant potatoes - cod was delicate and really liked the tomatoey bouillabaisse - seasonal dessert - can't remember exactly what this was but it was a berry (raspberry?) & cream dessert with a graham cracker-like base!
This restaurant is hard to beat! You approach the restaurant and notice that it is amazing how the restaurant is built on top of an isolated bluff with view connected by a small bridge! The staff spoke enough English to help guide us through the menu and we were very grateful for their help! the food itself was fantastic as well, from the fish to the steak. We will definitely be re-visiting this restaurant if in town!
Make sure you make a reservation far in advance, you will not get a table if you just show up. I made these reservations about 5 months in advance. Le Plongeoir is the most iconic dinner spot in all of Nice for its iconic restaurant views, history, and sitting on top of a rock. Service here was rushed, they want you in and out super fast because of other reservations they have so don't plan on staying long. Once you order, your food comes out immediately. And once you are finished they will ask you to leave and finish any drinks downstairs. I understand they have reservations but I do not like feeling rushed. The food was surprisingly really good. We enjoyed everything we had. I highly recommend getting the chicken and the sea bass. Don't forget to end your night with dessert because it was not only beautiful but delicious as well. Downstairs at the bar you will find a dj playing music. We did end up enjoying sipping on our drinks downstairs to end the night.
Truly, a magical place. The Nice leg of our European tour kicked off here. Day 1 was brunch here. We walked from our airbnb despite the heat since it was about a 15 min commute by foot which never seems like anything at all when you're on vacation. We were walking an average of 10 miles a day in Paris for 4 days so 3/4 of a mile seemed like nothing first thing in the day. Despite us making haste we were a couple minutes late for our reservation. We were seated right away whilst we oooowed and aaahhhhhhd at the surrounding. This place is perfectly located, overlooking the Mediterranean. The decor around the property is truly picturesque and out of this world. I'm not sure if it's because we made a reservation far in advance, but we always got lucky with our seat placement. They put us at a corner spot with a perfect ocean view. We ate family style, per usual. We shared the octopus, fish (sea bass, I believe), steak and a fried app. We also each got a cocktail. We purposely didn't get a dessert since we knew we were walking back home. We figured we'd scoop up something on the way. The food was great. The drinks even more so. And by gosh, such excellent service. It doesn't hurt thaf the views are breathtaking from every angle. Emily Blunt and John Krasinski were spotted eating and drinking the same stuff we had just recently.
Definitely touristy but not bad for lunch with beautiful views! We had an early lunch reservation and between us ordered 2 cocktails, 1 starter, 1 entree. We ordered the burrata which was fine but nothing to write home about. The pine nuts and lemon really didn't add much to the dish. The focaccia seemed a little stale. However the main dish we ordered, the truffle rigatoni was phenomenal. There are a lot of truffle pastas in nice but this one was one of my favorites. Perfect balance of flavors. Overall I'd say the menu was rather limited, you go here for the views. Because it's right on the water and it's covered there is no direct sun while eating and it was windy! So glad we weren't here after dark. I'd probably still recommend people go here for a lunch reservation if they could get one.
Ordered: The One aka Le Plongeoir Signature Cocktail (€19): Gin Bombay, jus de citron, sirop de canne, prosecco Le French Cocktail (€19): vodka, fraise, jus de citron, sirop de romarin maison, Mediterranean Tonic Zucchini Flower Fritters (€26): with spicy crushed tomatoes with basil Tuna Tartare (€29): with green apple, kumquat, lime, avocado Rigatoni with Seasonal Truffles (€45) Oven-Baked Sea Bream Fillet (€47): with grapes, basil and coriander bulgur, classic beurre blanc Aya's take: Le Plongeoir is one of the most iconic restaurants on the French Rivieria considering the restaurant is dramatically perched on a rock above the Mediterranean Sea. You also need a reservation here so make sure you do that well in advance especially for golden hour/sunset times since that's when they're the busiest. We started with a couple cocktails which were both good. The One aka their signature cocktail was more light, clean, and refreshing while Le French Cocktail was more sweet, fruity, and bright. The Zucchini Flower Fritters were crispy, airy, and went so well with the crushed tomatoes. The Tuna Tartare is a huge skip for me. Although it was recommended by our waiter, the tuna didn't look fresh and I think the green apple & kumquat overpowered and clashed in flavor. The Rigatoni with Seasonal Truffles was incredible!! Such a perfectly made pasta, they don't skimp out on the truffle and truffle cream, and every bite was more satisfying from the last. On the other hand, the Oven-Baked Sea Bream Fillet was just okay. For that price point, I expected it to taste better and be better plated. I also didn't really understand the grapes here which seemed to clash with the sea bream. All in all, the vibe and ambiance is unmatched, service was great, and we had an enjoyable meal. I would absolutely go back! read more
Wouldn't come here for the food, but definitely go for the views and experience dining in the iconic restaurant. Highly suggest making a reservation months in advance. If I do return, I would try to experience the bar underneath rather than dining in the restaurant. Staff were friendly, service was decent but what made it all was the view and ambience! read more
I really wanted to give them at least 4 stars but there were some things that threw me off. For starters, this place is hard to get last minute reservations. We had to be on a waitlist but was lucky we were able to get a 145pm reservations a few days prior. We were a few minutes late but they were able to seat us right away, at the very top. The server we had initially was friendly. He gave great recommendations and made us laugh with his jokes. There was another female that seem to be assisting him. She was the total opposite. We ordered a few drinks and started off with appetizers. We both ended up getting the steak as our main entrees but the food TOOK forever and our steaks didn't get prepared as what we wanted. Regardless, everything was okay at that point until it was time they asked us if we wanted dessert...I think this is the part that was very upsetting. She came by to clear our plates and asked us if we wanted dessert. I said yeah, can I please take a look at the menu. She presented it to us and probably 5 minutes after..hit us with a "I'm so sorry but I checked with the front desk and it seems like the time limit is approaching. So unfortunately we can't do dessert for you." I was actually shocked because this has never happened before. There were parties that were STILL sitting there that had been there before we came. My gf and I looked at each other disappointed because WHAT? You literally just tried to offer us dessert and then denied us of that. I thought it was unacceptable and poor customer service on their end because they couldn't accommodate for a few more minutes for dessert? Also, they close the bottom lounge area at a certain time of the day so if you want to go down and check it out and/or take pics...just know it is blocked off. Honestly, people go here for the vibes. It has a great view with a little bit of history behind it. I think the food was OK, not the greatest. A little bit overpriced but hey, it IS the South of France and everything is pretty pricey. Though some may call this a tourist trap, it is such a fun spot that I think is not to miss. The view from the restaurant is so much fun, from all levels. It is slightly pricey but in part you are paying for the vibes and views. A lovely spot in Nice! read more

Like many other reviews state, you definitely come to Le Plongeoir for the views (which are incredible), but I would recommend coming for drinks before a dinner somewhere else. While the food is fine, for the price point, it leaves something to be desired.The octopus appetizer and the burrata were probably the best things we had. We also tried the sea bass, cod, and the filet. read more
We had a reservation and we were seated immediately. Our waiter was very helpful and attentive. We ordered the dry Rosé and it was crisp. Our waiter recommended the sea bass over the cod. Our meal was served quick and overall was great. We ordered a seasonal dessert to top it off. Something I find odd is that we had to pay for tap water. Seems like something that should just be served with a meal without cost. Overall, the service was incredible. Food was decent. You're mainly paying for the views. read more

This is the ultimate instagrammable restaurant. We went for dinner and it was fantastic, however I imagine a lunch would be great to better appreciate the views. The truffle pasta was the type of dish that makes you close your eyes and chew slowly to appreciate every second of the flavor. As a pregnant woman, and I was pleased to find out that they had pasteurized cheeses. They were incredibly accommodating to ensure I had a good experience, despite food restrictions. The price was steep, though I felt that it was worth it. Our server was knowledgeable and attentive. There is a 1 drink/person requirement downstairs in the waiting area, however they are okay with just a sparkling water. I highly recommend this restaurant, specifically the truffle pasta. read more

Food - 8/10 Service - 6/10 Ambiance - 5/10 I got a beef filet, cooked medium that came out what I would call just above raw. The cut was excellent though and I can deal with the blood so it was very good nonetheless. We saw our server a total of four times, I know that as someone from the US service customs are different here but we felt pretty neglected and shoved onto a balcony away from most of the other tables. We came during sunset so we knew we wouldn't have a spectacular view for the duration of our meal but there were plastic screens up (presumably to protect from wind or rain) that were interrupting our view (there was some wind but no rain). One the guests in our party could see the water well, myself and our other guest had a lovely view of the neighboring building and the street behind the restaurant. Overall I bet this is an awesome experience during the light of day, we were disappointed in the view we had and I was disappointed in the preparation of my filet. read more

We had an amazing experience at Le Plongeoir! Our waiter, Jeffery, was extremely attentive and personable; this was the best service we had our whole trip (Paris and Nice)! You definitely need to make a reservation. We arrived about 15 min before our reservation, so they sat us at the bar while we waited on our table. The views are incredible and the food is delicious. It was a set menu (because of the particular reservation we had), but they were very accommodating to my gluten allergy. 10/10 recommend eating here, and try to get Jeffery as your server!! read more

I never fail to make it a priority to eat at this masterpiece every time I'm in Nice! Le Plongeoir is the dreamiest, most romantic restaurant seated beautifully on the sea. The food is impeccable. Service is above and beyond. The ambiance is like no other. The owner personally came and greeted all the tables at one of my visits. Such a kind soul. Will forever return to Le Plongeoir! read more

Watching the renaissance of spring unfold in the south of France felt like a dream. I was grateful to have arrived in Nice during the tail end of the off-season, when several of the city's infinite beach clubs had not yet staked their umbrellas in the sand and the sun was not yet beating down with its merciless glare. I savored the hours I spent strolling the Promenade des Anglais, weaving in and out of marathon trainers and roller bladers as I let the sound of a jazz saxophonist slowly melt my mind into a state of ease. This dreamlike condition continued for the two weeks I spent exploring the French Riviera, yet the pinnacle was undeniable. I had the pleasure of dining at Le Plongeoir late one Sunday afternoon for lunch, before the restaurant had opened for its renowned summer season dinner service. As my dining companion and I strolled past Port Lympia on our way to the establishment, I gradually saw its silhouette come into view. The restaurant is a product of delicate balance, perched effortlessly over the waves in a stance at the same time imposing and unintrusive. I would soon come to understand that marveling at the construction of the restaurant was merely the first instance of wonder I'd feel that afternoon. As the host showed us to our table, we snuck up a narrow staircase that gave way to the gorgeous elevated patio. There is truly not a single undesirable table at Le Plongeoir, each one carrying with it the magnificence of some unique view -- the undisturbed glassy surface of the Baie des Anges, the striking cliffs of the Parc de la Colline du Château, the charm of Nice's storybook Vielle Ville. The sun had decorated the sea in ribbons of translucent sparkle, illuminating the restaurant's trademark diving figurines on the lower deck. From the menu of Mediterranean gems I selected the carnaroli risotto with seasonal mushrooms and aged parmesan shavings, and I can confidently say that it was the most delicious risotto dish I've enjoyed to date. Everything about the meal fell in perfect harmony -- the mushrooms and parmesan lent an unparalleled umami quality, generating a delightfully nutty flavor that left me speechless after the first bite. I drizzled my ciabatta with olive oil and sprinkled a generous helping of fleur de sel, rounding out the meal with a series of undeniably desirable bites. In my experience, making a midday meal feel as special as the oft-preferred evening one is a daunting task. I've often felt that lunch services rarely receive the same pomp and circumstance as their later counterparts, as if the anticipation was not lost on anyone. It is here where Le Plongeoir surges above the pack, making lunch feel just as decadent and as consequential as the meal that follows. Everyone who contributes to the experience at Le Plongeoir understands that springtime in the south of France is a dream -- and they make sure that everyone who crosses the threshold gets to live, at least for the duration of their meal, suspended in a dreamlike moment all its own. Holy sh- I dream about my meal here. First and foremost it's a crazy once in a lifetime romantic experience to view the sunset as you're sipping on the drinks there with a S.O. Makes my heart warm just thinking about it. BOOK RESERVATIONS IN ADVANCED AND BE ON TIME!! Side story. We ended up being 30 minutes late to our reservation I made 4 months in advanced and they said they couldn't seat us and I was about to cry. Their alternate plan was to cancel our reservation seat us at their sister restaurant downstairs that's kinda the same vibe (rich and bougie european vibes ofc) but with no real "view". The hostess was not having that I had no international phone number/it didn't match the # on the reservation so I couldn't receive any late calls. So I was on the verge of tears drinking an Aperol Spritz in the Mediterranean oceanside bar while my bf went to slip the hostesses 20 Euros each. Low and behold they ending up seating us at the very top right next to the water to get the fire pics :D WOOHOO!! On to the food. I dream about the zucchini poppers. I expected it to be a gourd but it was a flower and it was coated in RICE FLOUR (!) and made it so crispy and light and delicious and in heavenly marinara sauce. Must get. We also got the octopus that was perfectly cooked. We then got seabass and grouper and everything tasted so clean and healthy (which is the norm in France and America needs to catch up) Food def worth but the experience.... even thinking about it makes my heart warm. If you take anything from this review: TLDR; take someone you love, order the zucchini poppers, and if you are late to your reservation and they refuse you slip them 50€ read more

The ambiance was spectacular, just hope you get a table with a view (we did)! The crab appetizer was the best food we ate and our mains were slightly underwhelming. But, the view makes up for it. Service was fast and they delivered tasty cocktails! read more

The view from the restaurant is spectacular, and the service was fantastic. The food was fair and enjoyable, but nothing I would go out of my way to recommend. Definitely somewhere to visit if you're more focused on the scenery of the restaurant rather than the food itself. read more
5 stars. Unreal setting, vibrant ambience, and impeccable service. My aperol spritz was delicious as were the bottles of red wine we ordered to share. Ordering the zucchini fritter appetizer is a must. Crunchy and savory with a creamy dipping sauce. Both risotto dishes hit the spot. As an avid shrimp lover, I can't help but champion the prawn risotto. Deliciously seasoned and the perfect amount of food for dinner. The truffle risotto was cheesier and thicker, in the best way. You really can't go wrong in the risotto department. Two of my companions enjoyed the juicy lamb entree. Perfectly seared and swimming in a savory sauce. Paired exquisitely with polenta and mushrooms. Service was swift, and we real enjoyed playful waiters! If you find yourself in Nice, don't miss the opportunity to dine at Le Plongeior. read more
