Well, look no further than the green door that leads you into Le Petit Dep, there are seven of them in the area. After a long walking day doing touristy things, we wanted to bring a snack back to our hotel, so we visited their Rue St-Paul Ouest café in the heart of Old Montreal. We were overwhelmed by their Patisserie menu of delicious pastries, croissants, biscuits, scones, cakes, muffins and more . We narrowed down our choices to a Chocolate Raspberry scone and an Almond scone. I absolutely cannot tell you which one was the best, because they were both amazing. They were fresh, flaky, with plenty of chocolate slivers, raspberries, and sliced almonds. They were sweet but not too sweet, and both were big portions. They were fantastic. I wanted something different to drink, so scanned their menu for the unfamiliar and decided on a Café Allongé, which is an elongated shot of espresso, so it isn't as strong as a regular espresso. It was a nice accompaniment to those decadent pastries. We had breakfast at a different Petit Dep on Friday morning and loved their chocolate croissant and cheese and spinach croissant. My husband and I came here for hot chocolate (both light and dark), and shared the cheese scone, chocolate chip cookie, date bar and Twix bar. Everything was great, but the date bar was the best of all. Numerous unique gift items for sale as well-good, clothing, toys, ornaments, etc. Very friendly staff as well. A small but cute place in the Old Port. It's one of the only places that is open until later in the day so it's amazing for a late night snack. The coffee here is great, their teas too. We stopped by for snacks and drinks after visiting Notre Dame. The staff was super friendly. I was trying to decide between a chocolate and coffee shake, and the barista said they could make me a chocolate shake with coffee. It was delicious! I also had a cheddar cheese and greens onions scone, which was also really good. My husband had a lemonade with honey. He said it wasn't sweet at all, so it wasn't his favorite. I really just stopped in to get a hot chocolate and get out of the cold. While waiting for my drink, I checked the store. The store itself has an incredible amount of delectable looking food and drink stuffs. I honestly wanted to get everything. After about 5-10 minutes my name was called and my hot chocolate was ready. Nice respite from the bars and shops nearby, reminds me of a Bavarian bookstore in Leavenworth, Wa, but perplexed by the classic rock and CCR soundtrack. Seating arrangement otherwise seems inconvenient with large middle table and barely any standing room for people ordering to go. No bathroom onsite. This retail space could have been used as a movie location for a charming shop in any small town in France. Or a Hallmark rom com. We found it in Old Montreal, which is a fair equivalent. On one side of the space, there are spots for enjoying a coffee and a light snack. Towards the back, there is a refrigerated case for cold beverages. Tempting, given the high temperatures that day. There was also merchandise displayed invitingly for tourists, under the beautiful stained glass pendants. I always notice the lighting. At the front, three shopkeepers made fancy coffees, pulled soft-serve cones, and took orders for baked goods. I had the special cone of the day, swirl soft serve, in a cup, as well as a peanut-butter sandwich cookie. We sat outside on the small bench, by the window box of flowers for me to enjoy the ice cream - it had been a long day and I only had a breakfast pastry. Looking for a place to sit and have a cup of coffee and snack was challenging when Montreal is flooded with tourists. Bus loads of people arrived in Old Montreal with good weather to enjoy. This little cafe has a small sitting area and a line of people for coffee and soft serve ice cream. The small 3 person staff don't even have time to clean the tables of used napkins and pastry crumbs especially on the window counter or empty the full trash can by the door. The mocha and latte were good. We tried a mushroom, onion and cheese scone which was very dry but tasted OK. It needed more milk, cream, buttermilk or butter in it. The exterior of the scone was a bit hard too. I make scones at home and more buttermilk would've helped keep it soft and tender. The chocolate croissant was fair. Hubby has tried a lot of croissants and said it wasn't as flaky and buttery with only a sliver of chocolate inside. We have bakeries that make better croissants at home. The store is other wise very cute like walking into a storybook shop. There is a duffel bag sized ATM in the back of the store. Come for the coffee and maybe the ice cream. read more

We were getting hungry and from the outside this looked adorable so we went in. Along with a barista and food counter they had a large refrigerated area of drinks and then a wall of many jarred goods and some items like coffee cups and other small Knick knacks. The appearance is quite cozy and cute. Their food is all premade and when I ordered a sandwich I was told they were out of it. Our small group chose salads and a different sandwich instead. It may be a Montréal law, but when we tried to buy one of the many drinks they sell that contained alcohol, we were told we could not have it with our lunch. So a different choice was made. The salads tasted fresh, although there was not near enough dressing included so the last half of the salad was quite dry. The sandwich received a thumbs up. They have signs on the tables that tell people this is a no computer area so no one lingers too long, and if that is not enough they do not offer any bathrooms either. So basically pay and get out. We did two stops at this cute cafe located really close to the Notre-Dame Basilica. Atmosphere is very quaint and homie. It feel like visiting friends for tea in fantasyland. They specialize in coffees, pastries and weirdly enough soft-serve ice cream, which sadly we didn't get to try. We did have coffee and a pastry which was very delicious and well made. Real baristas make all the difference!!!! Great for a quick visit and to pick up a snack or quick bite. We will have to try their soft-serve next time we visit! read more
