My family and I stopped here several times while on a short trip to Montreal. The service was great and we really enjoyed our hot beverages on a cold winter day. read more

Great spot to grab a nice coffee or snack. Quick efficient folks. The place is clean, modern and casual.

The worst, tasteless, odorless, useless roast beef sandwich I've ever had. what a waste of money, time, and belly space. YUL Java U read more

Alex was an amazing help at this cafe, very friendly! The sandwich i got was very good and the overall vibes were great! A wonderful visit

Très bon service de Alex! Le café et matcha étaient vraiment bons. Aussi l'ambiance de la place

Amazing coffee and breakfast sandwiches. Close to the convention center. Can't wait to go back

Needed a quick bite and coffee before heading out for the door and we found this coffee place down the street from us :) Prices were fairly high for everything but it sounds expected if the place is connected to a fancy hotel. I decided to the a southwestern chicken wrap and a macchiato. Macchiato was strong and what I needed to start my day. My wrap was good but alittle cold (they tried to warm it up but only the outside warmed up) regardless it hit the spot. Overall a good to go place but nothing special. read more

What a lovely spot for a cup of coffee in the morning. It was strong and hot. Beautiful indoor spot to sit and watch the world go by. I sat at the window and just enjoyed the quiet. Lovely soft music played. Staff was kind and helpful. Big smiles. I'll be back. The food looked good as well. I didn't have anything besides coffee but it was tempting. read more

Nice convenient location, close to hotels. Good croissants and drinks. Would come back again

The coffee is good depending on who's working. I was staying at the hotel next door. The place is usually empty yet dirty when I came by during my stay. The staff is sitting around yapping away until you arrive. Blah service. read more

Great service topped off with a comfortable, clean atmosphere. The interior is well kept and provides plenty of seating for a group of any size. Food is a bit on the pricier side but that is perhaps because of the area this location is in (connected to the InterContinental Montreal). Would I get something from here again? Yes, I would. read more

I'd skip this place and keep walking. Ordered two sandwiches and two coffees to go. ($25.00) The Le bello wrap that was ordered was pretty gross that I ended up chucking it. It had mushrooms, goat cheese, baby spinach and hummus. It was reheated in store and the wrap was pretty burnt. I asked the hubby to try it and he thought it was disgusting as well. Drinks were pretty weak, and I like weak coffee...but it was pretty watered down. Maybe it was an off day, or maybe I just ordered "the wrong things?"... This place was just meh. read more

A beautiful street corner cafe with plenty of comfy indoor (heated) seating with extremely strong coffee and non-stop glam rock blasting from the overhead speakers. What better way to start your morning, right?!?! By the way, when I say strong, I mean that my black coffee was straight from the darkest depths of blackness, and made the hair on my chest stand up and dance. Wow. I am AWAKE! And yes, glam rock. Queen, Boston, Aerosmith, Def Leopard... you get the picture. Either this is their way of inject audio caffeine into their guests, or the guy choosing the music on this Day has a penchant for such music. Either way, it worked for me! read more

This location of Java U is connected to the Intercontinental Hotel so I ended up going here every morning for coffee. I had a latte both times and it was good! I would say comparable to Starbucks (in both taste and price). I also tried their chocolatine which was a super chocolatey version of a croissant (more chocolate than dough). My husband and I were big fans. read more

Absolutely fell in love with this coffee shop! First the cashier was so sweet and helped me learn French phrases that I can use around town. The veggie wraps were fresh and healthy! What i fell in love with and crave here and there is the chocolate coconut macron. OH MY GOD. This was amazing and I was tempted to get 10 before I leave I opted for 1 :( ). The cafe had such a modern, classic feel to it. I could easily find myself reading a book or studying casually at this cafe which is a huge compliment ( tend to be picky about that ). I would 100% come back here!! read more

This cafe has coffee, ice cream, smoothies, fast free wifi, comfy chairs, work benches, lots of electrical outlets, clean bathrooms, good music at a good volume. The espresso was strong and not over-roasted, and their are a number of interesting drinks on the coffee menu. I got a Viennese latte because I'm a fan of John Irving. It was as delicious as described in The Hotel New Hampshire. The ice cream was rich and sweet, which I like, and served in reasonable portions. The smoothies were thick and tasted strongly of the fruit that was supposed to be in them. The space is clean, quiet, well-lit, and comfortable for work and relaxation. There is also a lot of it, and not very many customers. The staff is friendly and responsible. It is pretty much everything I could ever want from a cafe, and a dollop of whipped cream more. read more

The Bilboquet ice cream and hot coffee drinks were excellent and we pretended we were hip by hanging out in the post-industrial space that features bathroom doors you can't figure out how to open and a football-field long (so it seems) laptop bar with only four outlets (two at either end). I wasn't any cooler for having hung out there for a while, but I sure felt like I could pretend to be cooler. OTOH my baby hipster 11 year old hanging out in his fedora sneering at his younger brother while nibbling on mango ice cream fit the place perfectly. Excellent vibe and grub. Also one of the better cafe au laits, in the French style, we've enjoyed in a long time, and very nice staff. read more

This particular Cafe Java U location is a convenient spot for anyone who's staying at the neighboring Westin or of course the Intercontinental Hotel for a morning coffee kick. Unlike the earthy feel of so many cafes these days, the decor here is more of a modern and minimalist scheme. Steel counter tops and lots of black, grey and white. Service is friendly enough from behind the counter and they brew a decent drip coffee. read more

This was the only place in Montreal that wasn't a hit for me. I got coffee and a vegetarian breakfast sandwich. The coffee was not good, I got a doppio con pana. The espresso was so sour and smoky that even the fat and sugar from the whipped cream couldn't save it. The breakfast sandwich had a really odd flavor to it and definitely had meat despite the description so I feel that I didn't get what I ordered. That can be forgiven due to language barrier, my French is laughable and I don't think the person taking my order cared enough to clarify. The weird flavor however I couldn't get over and tossed both the sandwich and coffee before leaving. read more

Maybe it's not fair, because this was backup to my first choice and for a chain this place is solid, but I could only give 3 stars. They offer a wide variety of pastries, coffee, and sandwich options. This particular location is conveniently attached to the Intercontinental hotel and a safe backup if the cafe you wanted to try doesn't open til 9 AM! Yes that's a 9, I'm usually on my 3rd cup by then! (I'll let that slide). I ordered a cafe au lait which was good and for 8:30 on a Sat, it hit the spot. I ordered an almond croissant which was standard but nothing to write home about. Overall good place to grab a quick drink and pastry Ina a pinch but they also offer sandwiches and other snacks. read more

The Skinny: I would have given this place a 4 for it's mean chai latte, however the food isn't so great (3.5) The baristas are quite friendly. I love the ample seating, contemporary decor and the super fast wi-fi.(4) Overall, albeit pricey, this is not a bad place to hang out for a couple hours if you're in the downtown area. (3.5) I was staying at the Intercontinental hotel recently for a conference and stopped by this cafe for a decent caffeine fix. First of all, this place makes a mean chai latte. Even though they were using non-fat milk, their espresso machine foamed it up to spectacular heights making it super luxurious on a chilly fall morning. In addition, they use Oregon Chai Latte Mix which I prefer over the Tazo Chai mix they use over at Starbucks. That being said, you can get a chai latte 1/3rd the size larger for the same price at Starbucks. My friend ordered the equivalent of a cafe misto (which the baristas made for her even though it wasn't on their menu) which she said was especially delicious. I ordered a chocolatine, which is the same as a pain au chocolat, which was okay. It certainly nothing special as the filling was unpleasantly grainy and their puff pastry was overly dense. My friend ordered a smoked salmon bagel with cream cheese which the baristas heated up for her. It appeared as though they used a Fairmount bagel which is a nice local touch. I didn't like that the bagel was pre-made and sitting in the display counter though. The decor is definitely contemporary with ample seating. Their free wi-fi (ask the barista for the password) is super-fast and convenient if you are staying at the Intercontinental. Overall, 3.5 stars. read more

This place brews a solid cup of great tasting drip coffee and is conveniently located near two upscale hotels. Not a bad, place if you want something nearby. I'd liked it better than the Starbucks down the road. The food looked really fresh and the desserts looked delicious. It was a little more than I expected from a lobby coffee shop. The place has a nice layout and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves in the ample seating areas. The service was quick and efficient for one guy making all the drinks as well. read more

We were looking for some light and healthier options late in the afternoon.....so we went into this cafe. I wish we hadn't....the couscous was awful and apparently not fresh. We initially inquired as to when it was prepared and the server said yesterday or earlier today....we returned the full plate to the counter and ended in a conversation with the proprietor. He told us he had it for breakfast and it was fresh prepared today.....well if it made earlier in the am it was made with old ingredients! Begrudgingly he offered a refund or another option.....the best thing we did was pay the bill and leave. Stay away..... read more

First stop in Montreal - COFFEE!! Such a funky place. My latte was served in a simply long large glass mug with a long, slim spoon. It was frothy and rich - first thought: best latte I've ever had. And now that I'm back in NY, the best latte's I've ever had were all in Montreal! Trendy furnishings, colors of white, clear and orange. They had gift items like mugs and traveling cups too that all looked pretty cool. Great international chain! read more

This place was right down the street from my hotel...AMAZING Coffee!!!! Organic and Fair trade to boot!!! Pastries and sandwiches were delicious. Can't wait to come back to Montreal to visit Java U again!!! read more

A great quick brunch meal with above average coffee! Employees were also very hospitable and friendly!!

My outlook has changed since I discover chain coffee houses like Java U. I walked into a clean and neat coffee/eatery and was immediately greeted warmly. The staff spoke English and was patience while I selected my soup, sandwich and coffee selection. He offered to grill the sandwich. The minestrone was excellent. I had my lunch, did some work and thought I would get something to go as I had a late flight home. When my server found out, he advised that there is a Java U at the airport and I do not need to carry my sandwich in my bag for hours in 28 degree weather. Wow - le service clientèle superbe. Very nice open space, with delicious coffee creations. I loved the mochaccino, and the service was extremely friendly and welcoming.

Marginal coffee. On par with Starbucks. Staff friendly and attentive -- the only reason they get 3 stars.

The coffee is decent and this spot is conveniently located next to the convention center. Design and layout is modern and attractive, but again, there's nothing spectacular about the coffee itself. Appreciated the friendly baristas though! read more

Fine little coffee place; nothing special except the layered lattes, but a perfectly fine spot for a quick breakfast. I had a nice bagel under my lox and my granddaughter appreciated finding a chocolate chip muffin. read more

The lattes were the best lattes that we had ever had. I wish we could give this place 5 stars. The sandwiches, while they have a good variety of them, are not so great. My Cadilac croissant sandwich was good, the cheese choice was delicious. The smoked meat sandwich my husband got was not good, he could not even finish eating it. If you want a good smoked meat sandwich go up the street to Gros Jambon, theirs is amazing. I would definitely come back here for lattes as they are so so good but I would not get food here again. read more

This place made a pregnant lady very, very happy. Tasty drinks and delicious pastries.
