This is my morning sanctuary. I was here most of my days in Surry Hills. I love that it's not always too busy when I do drop by for my morning coffee. Staff are super friendly and Coffee is strong and delicious. Wooden floors, historic building right on the corner. Also I love the fact that I got a bottle of water before I even got a chance to sit down. What more could you want?

I'd heard great things about this place for brunch, but had held off visiting after a disastrous first visit for takeaway coffees (chai for me) which took forever only for me to take one sip of my chai, spit it right back out and proceed to toss out my whole cup en route to Central Station. Places that are great at coffee are not good at chai. You can't have it all... Nearly a year later...I'm glad we gave Le Monde a second chance. It's a cozy little spot with super friendly baristas and a lovely waitstaff. The food was good. I had the Brekky Board which consisted of Boiled Eggs & Soldiers (little slivers of toast that you dip into the eggs) and fresh fruit with yoghurt and muesli. McKay had the Chorizo Omelet special. Bottom Line: Good food. Again, though, it doesn't beat the likes of neighbouring brunch spot favourites Robocog and Bruschetteria 102. Wouldn't be upset about eating here again, but not the best I've ever had.

A surprise find for a good breakfast! The cafe is small but their service is fast so getting a table for 2 was fairly easy when we went. I would definitely go back. Mid-morning (10am) on a sunny day, the cafe gets a lot of sunlight so sitting outside is pleasant. I notice that they put up a sun blocker to make it more pleasant for people sitting inside too. Very thoughtful.

    Brekky board.. delish!

I love breakfast! Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day. Pancakes, eggs benny, french toast, and all sorts of other deliciousness! I have had many breakfasts all over Sydney and the breakfast I had at Le Monde would rank as one of my favorite. I ordered the breakfast board which included toast soliders and yoghurt and muesli with fruit. Although the breakfast was simple everything was done really well. The eggs were perfectly cooked with the right amount of gooeyness. While the yoghurt and muesli was simply delicious. I just wanted more! Will definitely be back again to try other things on the menu!

Le Monde Cafe in Surrey Hills. Breakfast par excellence.

Foodman is in Sydney for a few days and after the long flight we are up early each morning so there is a premium on a great breakfast spot. Read the paper, had. Long black coffee and eggs benedict. Great service by friendly staff. Read the paper and planned our moves for the day. Great local spot.

Had the special of Prosciutto, fig...poached eggs, avocado and Truffle oil. Super yum. Had breakfast envy as I saw the potato rosti dish so will be back tomorrow. Food came quickly. Looked amazing. Friendly staff. Good selection of free newspapers to read - big bonus! Hard surfaces so sound can be a it amplified My new favorite breakfast place in Sydney.

I really like Le Monde, it's a small cafe on Foveaux Street that sort of sits halfway up the steepest section of the infamous hill. It's got great food, the staff are all really friendly and I've never had a bad coffee there. I remember, upon my return from overseas, this was the first time I met up with my fellow filmmakers to discuss what was in the pipeline for the next few months. A joyous occasion of hugs, stories and work. The food doesn't come in large servings but the food that does come is delicious and there's a really nice atmosphere in the place as well. Woe betide you if you need to use the bathroom though as it's a five minute walk through a car park, up a nondescript staircase and through an abandoned corridor. I had a new Greek Captains hat upon my return from my travels and I planned to show it off in Le Monde that day, but unfortunately our producer happened to be wearing a Greek Captains hat that day as well. I didn't let this dismal misery get me down. I was at Le Monde and I really like Le Monde.

Not much about the place that is French apart from the name and, I guess, the French toast. However, it really doesn't matter much. The food is delicious. Like anything in this part of the City, you're going to battle traffic and limited parking to find a place to leave the car. Worth the effort though. The French toast is delicious - and not sickly sweet, thanks to the yoghurt and granola topping to balance the maple syrup. The truffled eggs has a hint of lemon that also does well to balance the flavours and everything is well presented. Didn't have the coffee - stuck to chai latte - which is nice and warm on a cold morning. Service was prompt and food came out quickly. It's quite open so can be a little chilly up front in winter, but still a great place to come.

Le Monde Cafe serves up the best coffee in Sydney. Hands down. The best. No competition. I'd even go as far to say it might just be the best cafe in Sydney, but that is up to you to decide. Clearly it's my favourite and a quick scan of the many awards and reviews on the walls proves I'm not alone. This Foveaux Street institution has been serving up beautiful coffee for six years - yep that's back before Justin Hemmes and Co started buying all the pubs in the area and turning them into shabby-chic hangouts for hipsters. Run by Anthony and Renee and supported by a crew of super friendly staff, Le Monde go the extra mile to get to know their customers and remember their names and orders. I went away for five years and they still remembered me when I returned! Now THAT is how to make your customers feel special. It's not just the coffee and great service that will win you over, the food is pretty darn good too. The breakfast menu is brimming with all the usual morning delights, the scrambled egg muffins are a stand-out! The lunch menu mixes deluxe sandwiches with scrummy mains and there's a big specials board that throws up some pretty tasty meals. Le Monde pulls an eccletic crowd with the taxi garage next door there's always a cabbie or two rubbing shoulders with the fashionistas from the local fashion houses, then there's the staff from the local ad agencies, design studios, publishing companies and of course the loyal locals. This impressive cafe is not to be missed. Try it, you will not be disappointed.

Wowser, this café is busy. My partner and I showed up on a Saturday late morning (after going through the Sydney Morning Herald Best Cafés for 2011 list where this café was handed the gong for Best Breakfast) and we were greeted with way too many people and not enough tables. We gave our name and then stood around for 15 minutes like many others until we were called by which time we knew what we wanted to eat and by then was so darn hungry that we had tricked our mind into believing we had in fact already eaten it. At least I did. I had gone in wanting eggs and sat down ordering the rich chocolate brownie. And it was devilishly good (were you really expecting anything else?) My partner's poached eggs and side of avocado with bread was also very devilishly good. You would be pleased to know that these guys are serious about coffee so that's another big bonus. Once you're done go up to the counter with your bill and pay. It's fast and they encourage it (for what would be obvious reasons by now).

    Isabel Y.

I haven't been here in a while so I thought I would come back to see if the coffee was still as good as was a year ago. And it still is. Coffee is strong and the chocolate brownie is amazing, almost as good as Bourke St bakery. Also I love the fact that I got a bottle of water before I even got a chance to sit down. Big tick! This place is wonderful for an afternoon coffee if you live or work near here as its bustling but not packed out. I like to sit outside if the weather is nice, but the only problem is that I can now see El Loco directly across the road and I feel like a taco while sipping my coffee! lol

Oooh... look at the running yolk over the potato rosti and smoked salmon. Heavenly!~

This cafe has a very unassuming facade. An easily miss-and-pass location. We have the address in hands and still can't find it. A large overcast awning block half of the entrance and the signage was not bright and attention-drawing. Anyhow, we did find it and it was a nice little gem-find too! We ordered their signature dishes: The Potato Rosti and the Croque Monsieur and they were delish! Flavoursome, moreish with good premium ingredients. They were filling and satisfying delicious. The ideal brunch selections. We've been missing out of these times...

The menu is seasonal and changes weekly, some samples include finely cut wagyu, crusted in dukkah and served on sourdough, honey-glazed bacon with fresh avocado, and mushrooms with ricotta. Almost everything comes served with sprinklings of sprouts and greens grown on the windowsill. The menu is small but there's almost always something for everyone; however, those looking for your classic big breakfast should come prepared to settle for something a little different. The quality of coffee is not entirely consistent, but the molasses-infused sugar makes up for it. I could eat a jar of it by itself. There's also a range of sandwiches on offer. Sebastian, the robust English chef, serves up traditional and delicious café cuisine for breakfast and lunch on weekdays and a beautiful roast for Sunday lunch. Some winning items on the menu include the "Big Salad" which changes daily and can include a delicious mixture of pumpkin, cous cous, eggplant, walnuts, raisins, and any other odds and ends the chef decides to add on the day. I recommend ordering it with poached chicken, which is as tender as can be. Another popular item is the BLT, served on Turkish bread. Lastly, I would highly and enthusiastically recommend the house made brownie, for which I solely blame the gain of 3 kilos. It's chocoloatey, and melty, and powered sugary and just ALL good.
