    Today's special

Commenting on my review of Lawsons Records, in which I declared that I was looking for 'Fat Belly Jones', Just A indelicately pointed out that I was 'two thirds there'. Cruel that woman. I do have a soft spot for a good brekky though, where you can get a very good cup of coffee, a seat, (sorry Cafe Cre Asion), and a well priced well cooked brekky. Blaq Piq had a special today - scrambled eggs with grana padano and basil on muffins and a coffee for ten bucks. Perfect scrambled eggs, beautiful coffee, pink Himalaya salt on the table and panella instead of sugar. Super fast service and a very cool spot. No doubt Justy will make something out of my concession about a soft spot. Do your worst snake hips!

I've gotten my morning coffee from the Blaq Pig every weekday morning since they opened a few weeks back. The owners are the same crew from Le Monde Cafe in Surry Hills, so they have a track record of success. It's seriously good coffee. Every morning, owner Lem makes my long black with exactly 23 grams of coffee grounds. How do I know that? Because he has a scale next to the grinder where he weighs the grounds before he makes every cup. There's a little board in front of the coffee bar that says where the day's coffee came from. These guys are serious about their coffee. And the guys are nice, too. They take the time to know their regulars by name, what they do, where they came from, where they're headed for holiday next, and what they did last weekend. Theses are genuinely great people. Haven't had the food yet, but based on the weekday crowds that they're pulling within a short time of opening, it must be good!

    Wagyu Corned Beef Buns: $18.00

With great service complimenting a trendy atmosphere, a unique and affordable menu, and quality offerings, Blaq Pig is a fantastic breakfast/brunch option. Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere? Tucked away just south of Hyde Park, Blaq Pig is a breakfast enclave with a layout conducive to individuals and groups alike. The service is quick and attentive, and the indoor/outdoor setting makes it a solid option irrespective of the weather. I sat down, I ordered, I ate, I paid, and I left with a smile on my face. Star Granted. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? Wagyu corned beef buns with fried eggs, watercress and hollandaise? I couldn't have dreamed up a more interesting and appealing combination of foods I love even if I thought on it for a week, and as a result I would have gladly forked over $25.00. Fortunately, my two buns were only $18.00 which, while still admittedly a little expensive when I look back on it, wasn't absurd. Star Granted. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? Wow. This was some seriously good stuff. The Wagyu corned beef was absolutely amazing and surprisingly well portioned, and while a full egg was a tad bit much for each bun, it didn't overpower the flavor as much as I thought it might. The buns themselves were excellent in both consistency and flavor, and the watercress and hollandaise were nice touches as well. Dual Stars Granted. Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could? Blaq Pig is a fantastic breakfast (and I'm sure lunch) option, although there are so many good options nearby that I can't quite crown Blaq Pig as being five star worthy. No Star Granted.

Okay.. Yesterday we had the smoked pork belly and their key dish pandan pancake. Before going to the dish i will have to say the cafe is located in a gem location, hard to find but its quite worth it. Its inside sydney cbd yet peaceful. I did felt like abit of NewYorkers. 4.5 stars for atmosphere. Foodwise, i thought i should order their pork dish since it is blaq pig. So we pick the pork belly, Unfortunately, it is very rich and quite porky with pickled eadish which is not my fav. The dressing i guess doesnt match the porky flavor and the plating was messy (did tried to take few picture from different angle). 2 stars. Second dish -pandan pancake. 1 word, great. Give it a try and flavor speak diffe3nt language. Beautifully dressed, not too sweet, and come with some fruits & black sugar to balance the pandan flavor. 4stars. Overall it is 3.5 star because i had the coffee and it was pretty good. Goodluck Blaq Pig

Decent coffee in the heart of Sydney. Especially on weekends. It's a lovely little hideout that you can enjoy and relax a little. Only prob is the location, it's hard to tell your friends where it is and google maps seem to often get confused how to get there (with all the one way streets).

Hidden gem near Hyde Park. This was my go to breakfast place in Sydney. I particularly enjoyed the Breaky

Cute little cafe tucked away in Surry Hills. My colleagues and I came here to try their famous pandan pancakes. The atmosphere was relaxed, the decor was youthful and modern. Staff were friendly and service times were reasonable. Prices are to be expected in this neck of the woods. The pandan pancakes were very delicious and portion sizes Some other favourites in my group were the porkbelly, the dish with the black sausage and the avocado and prosciutto salad.

This is my first full visit to Blaq Piq in CBD/Surry Hills after being turned away one Saturday due to there being no spare tables and the staff wanting to go home. I have given them every chance to redeem themselves but I am still left wanting..... - food coming before the coffee is a sign of how slow things are at this cafe, and there is a half full floor space so no excuses this Tuesday morning. - un-rendered bacon fat is always an unpleasant eating experience. It means that even after you cut the edge fat you are going to consume soft, raw fat from the inner parts of the rasher = gross. - undercooked egg leads to ultimate stickiness, totally unnecessary (it's a handheld bun!). - probably the worst part is the wet-dog smelling plate that the bacon and egg bun sits upon. The odour cannot be ignored the moment it hits the table. They seriously need to clean their dishwasher or rinse their plates of egg before washing, cause this smell is unbearable while eating. Positives: - it's nice to look at a tree outside blowing in the wind while I wait - (that's it I think... sounds like I am being a nark but I assure u I did wake up on the correct side this morning)

Food was awesome and service was rear. We were the first ones there at 8am from the airport. Such a cute place. It's hidden so you have to search for it. We got poached eggs on sourdough bread , which was SO good! Also scrambled eggs on sourdough. The matcha tea was great. The coffee was real strong in such a small cup tho :/.

My friend and i came here after swimming, the a nice small cafe, with daily specials and many lunch/brunch options. I like the layout and the interior design. The milkshakes were beautiful and the food was well prepared and presentation was stunning. Will come again

    Yuzu Souflee Pancakes

I was visiting Sydney on Holiday and accidentally stumbled upon this place. It has a cool vibe to it with great coffee. The pastries were also delicious. I ordered the yuzu soufflé pancakes. They were absolutely amazing. They were airy and light and I would highly suggest getting them. The cream cheese sauce it came with really made the dish. If I lived in Sydney, Blaq Piq would be my go to coffee shop

The salmon was not fresh very fishy tasting. The tea Earl gray had grounds in the bottom of the cup. The flu did not have any flavor. Individual poached eggs individual avocado individual smoke salmon individual bread with no blend of flavors

I'm not really a citrusy kinda girl but that combo was divine. I needed more caffeine though for my long day ahead so I got a large mocha-- just the buzz I needed. The vibe is very aesthetic, industrial chic with high ceilings. Love the tables as well as the pitchers that look like Aesop bottles haha. I was really torn between the shokupan yuzu French toast and stracciatella, chilli and hazelnut toast but I'm glad I went with savory. Absolutely what I needed for today's adventures. They even, one morning, came over to confirm something about my order that I'd forgotten to note--very nice. The food was good. My only complaint is that the toast was overtoasted, even a little burnt. We both had the Chilli Eggs and while my husband enjoyed his I was expecting something with more flavour because of the name of the dish and the ingredients. There were no potatoes served with the dish, just sourdough toast under the eggs, so I felt the serving size did not justify the price. $21.00 for 2 eggs with no spice and toast. Seriously!! I would not recommend. There is no service. The whole experience did not provide value for the money.

We came in thinking it was just a coffee shop, but it's essentially a restaurant that also has a focus on coffee. They have a full bar and a window to the outside where you can order just coffee and tea to go. As for the interior it's dimly lit and sort of has romantic date night vibes. We essentially only ordered coffee and one person ordered a cake slice. The lychee cake was pretty good per my aunt. A couple people ordered the Coco Loco, which is basically an espresso martini on steroids with Nutella and something like a Ferrero Rocher. I ordered a latte and their Affogato. The latte was very smooth and BI is arguably one of the best I've ever had. Is the Affogato a cheat code because they use like a tiramisu ice cream? You could argue that case. You can also buy their blends of coffee beans, subject to availability. While the latte was very smooth, I can't say it was mind blowing but it was still pretty good.
