I like a good Gordon place, but I prefer Burger and Street Pizza. I feel like you get more value at those places. The service was absent, there was a cook and they called numbers, I really felt on my own here. The atmosphere was not very lively but that could have been the time of day. Given that it wasn't crowded and it still took a while to get the food out, in a rush dinner hour, this place probably is a nightmare. But again.... it tastes good.

The took really long and got worse by 12. Got food at 12:10 and they forgot the added chicken tender I ordered but luckily I caught that early on. Let the lunch rush die down and ordered the mini shakes. Waited for 20 minutes until I asked how far along until my order, they said to pick it up at the drink counter. No one was there when we ordered the shake and there was no sign. Added a biscoff cookie to the shake... which they also forgot and put it on the side cup. Overall it's a small portion and what got us full were the dirty fries. Wanted to try this in Vegas but ended up trying it in DC while in the area instead. Don't come if you're expecting food within 15-20 minutes.

Both visits I had were excellent. They have a proper Irish draft list plus some others, and they pour a nice pint. I had bangers and mash my first night and the sausage was some of the best I've had. There was a good mound of mash and the gravy was dark and rich. I appreciated the onions added on too. Night two I got shepherd's pie and was quite happy. Rich sauce and mildly charred mash on top made for a fine meal. I'd gladly order the sausages again and would love to come back for the fish and chips. Worth noting: the service is excellent. Anne Marie is a saint dealing with...err...serving various personalities. Plus there was World Cup all over the TVs. The vibe is excellent Irish pub. I really hope we can go back again. She Said: I was happy that He agreed (happily agreed) to return to The Celtic House because I would have been bummed to miss out. I had the chicken pot pie which is darn near impossible for me to resist. Outside of my own and my dear Aunt Peggy's, this was some of the best pot pie I've had. The gravy was the right thickness, the chicken wasn't over cooked (which is hard to pull off in this format), and the puff pastry on top was light and fluffy but with enough oomph to it to hold up to the gravy. The only thing I'd change was more veggies in the dish, but that's my personal preference. As he noted, the service was terrific and I appreciated the aplomb with which our bartender managed her patrons. Potty Points: No trip to the potty for me on this visit!

For planning purposes, you are within walking distance to Freedom Plaza, Lafayette Park, and a direct path to the Washington Monument. The food here is very good, but what you're paying for is the rich history of the establishment and great customer service. Our server, Peter, was very knowledgeable of the restaurant history and menu, friendly, and engaged us in organic conversation. The management team was also very friendly and engaging. Some of the best customer service you can experience in DC. The recipes and menu options are simple, but the execution is what makes this place an easy return for diners. They are known for their seafood here, oysters in particular, with a solid selection of staples. The biggest value is perhaps lunch as there are a few options around $20 that are filling and delicious; beating similar pricing for lunch at other places, but at a lesser value. The interior is characteristic of 20th century American midwest saloon. A lot of Victorian decor with mahogany wood throughout. Much of the character of the restaurant is built on this idea. The restaurant group has done a good job of preserving what seems to be original interior and exterior design from the previous occupant, the B. F. Keith's Theater. There's a downstairs which has space for private dining, and there are multiple bars indoors, an atrium, and lounge all which the latter are operated by Old Ebbitt Grill. Overall, a very good experience for good good and a history lesson.

A friend invited me to go on a little Duke's tour with her, and this was our first stop. They were decked out in panda decor and had a charming menu. I was mainly there for their drinks, but I decided to try their quinoa salad too. What a hefty, satisfying salad! The butternut squash, goat cheese, and pumpkin seeds were the highlights. Based on this initial experience, I'd be back for sure. Good happy hour too. Now, this location may be a little out of my way, but thankfully there are closer Duke's.

Server came by, not so much as a greeting or introduction, just a short, "do you know what you want?" Fine - no problem. We ordered two avocado toasts and side of fries to share. Now, the menu clearly says the avocado toasts are served with a "runny egg". Ok sure, no problem. What i did not anticipate was a half raw egg with the yolk swimming in a sea of translucent completely uncooked "whites". It was like a golden disc encased in a snot rocket. Ok, maybe that's their "runny". Slide it off the toast and press on - snail trail of mucus be damned. The avocado spread was great - bright, citrusy, and well seasoned. The "hot sauce" was likely from a bottle and could have been left off. The radishes would have benefitted from being tossed in lemon, salt and pepper. The image of the "runny" egg was too much so I ate half the toast serving and meandered to the fries. Not bad, crispy , hot, and...wait...sweet...something is off, I can't put my finger on it but at least it's not a raw egg. I keep eating. My kids looks at me and says, "do these remind you of funnel cake?" THAT'S IT - FUNNEL CAKE. We have both had enough, ask for the check. The server comes by gives me the clunky machine, I tap and put it down, he reaches for it and I say, it's processing, I still have to sign...and then he starts snapping his fingers...WHAT IN THE ACTUAL €¥($ ARE WE DOING RIGHT NOW?!? Never again. Never, again.
