The taste in the value of the food was excellent! I got a salad with their chicken for about $14. The gentleman taking the orders was super friendly and helpful with ordering. Apparently, this food truck has been at the Washington Navy Yard for years. It's usually parked in between the clinic and the parking garage, near the smokers gazebo. There isn't much to say other than you can purchase decent Afghani from this stationary vehicle. The wait time is typical, the prices are fair, and the food won't disappoint. I recommend trying the gyro or the chicken and lamb platter. If you're getting a side, don't pass up on the chickpeas, spinach, or pita bread. Back to the office for the first time in a while and of course I forgot to pack a lunch. Pre pandemic, there were a couple food trucks on the Navy Yard; DC Slices always had a line. And Fresh Afghan Cuisine has been here for a while, yet I've never given it a try. I opted for the gyro, which I figured would be your usual Greek diner deal: thin sliced gyro lunch meat on shredded lettuce with onions, hothouse tomato, tzaziki, and maybe feta or cucumber if you're lucky. What you get here is chunks of gyro seared on the flattop (if you've had Halal Guys, it's similar but much bigger chunks), served on a pita topped with chunks of iceberg (no paper thin shredded lettuce here) with onions, tomatoes, and a spicy white sauce. I want to say it's yogurt based, but there's some decent jalapeno-style heat going on. Just enough warmth to make it interesting and creamy enough to tie everything together. HUGE portion and a steal at $10 and the dude throws in a bottled water as well. When it's tough getting out of Five Guys without spending $20 and even McDonald's will run you $15, this is one of the best lunch deals in the neighborhood. Can't recommend them highly enough. Get the gyro and prepare to take a nap. read more

I have been working at the Navy Yard for over 3 years now and as most people will tell you, there isn't much good eats in that area unless you go outside of the base. The fresh afghan truck is by far the best place to eat inside the navy yard and it isn't even close. Their grilled meats (chicken and lamb) are spiced just right and their chickpeas (stewed in a yogurt tomato sauce) are excellent and somewhat addicting! They will also cater to your spice or the amount of sauce you want (either white, green or a spicy red sauce) and Khadija is a super sweet person as well. So if you work in the navy yard and you haven't had fresh afghan yet you are missing out! I highly recommend it! read more

If you're ever in the DC area and you have access to the Navy Yard, you have to eat at this food truck. So amazing! I get the chicken and lamb platter with potatoes and spinach. They put this spicy seasoning and yogurt on everything. It's tangy, spicy and savory. So much flavor! The seasoning reminds me of the chile limon I put on my Mexican food. It's a nice, light basmati that's cooked perfectly. The meat is perfectly seasoned and so tender and perfectly cooked. The spinach is OK, the potatoes are good, the salad is salad - the lamb and chicken are really what it's all about! The guy that takes orders always makes me smile and is so friendly - a small thing like that goes a really long way to make my whole day nice. I don't like reviews that don't tell me anything except the good, so here are my cons: - The line is always long and can take an hour or sometimes even more! That's the price you pay for food that's cooked up fresh and is this delicious, which is why I don't dock it any stars. But plan on a long lunch. - For the sandwich, the meat is the same chunks you get with the rice, which doesn't work for the sandwich. But again - I don't dock it any stars because everything is so tasty and the lamb and rice are the only thing I ever want to order anyway. - I would love to see another side option, or at least change the salad. I would WAY rather have an afghan side salad than a American-style lettuce-based salad. And gulpea! - They don't accept paypal or other electronic payment.
