We have gone to Le Lai in the past and it has been very good. But this time they got knew workers and a new layout. When the lady took our appetizers she spilled them on the table trying to pick it up, I realize she was new so we didn't hold a grudge or anything. What really made me disappointed was that we got there early before the rush hour and they were serving other people who had gotten there after before us. That's one of my biggest pet peeves! We were only a group of 4 and other people were some parties, larger families and more. I hope that other people won't have to go through the same experience. read more

The food is delicious. And the price is great for the amount of food we got! A great family dinning place, best for sharing plates.

The restaurant is nice and clean. I had the chicken pad thai, lo mein noddles, and the wonton soup. Overall the food was ok, I wish I could have tasted the tamarind sauce in the pad thai. I strongly suggest management to offer thai tea, would be a hit among "thai food lovers"...unless there is another place offering it that I am not aware of. read more

This place was awful. I ordered the spring rolls and the pad thai, and neither were edible. It was honestly the worst pad thai I have ever had in my life- I was starving, but I could not bring myself to eat more than a few bites. The dish was drenched in a vinegary red sauce that tasted like bile. The spring rolls were served with a similarly vinegary "peanut sauce." We found out about Le Lai through a friend of mine and now we consider ourselves to be regulars at Le Lai, we go that often. The food is always good and the service is always great. It's this understated restaurant a little out of the way but it sure is a great one. We've never once been dissapointed. read more

We snuck in 10 minutes before closing an got excellent, friendly service. My family and I have gone to Le Lai many times as it typically has great food. We also travel and love to check out new restaurants. Food here is usually great however we went yesterday for dinner and were disappointed with their beef vegetable. We ordered other plates as well, however when we told our server the beef had a "not fresh" taste, and asked to just have them remake a vegetable or lo mein plate, he took it to the owner/cook (only other man came out of the back to tell him). We could hear the conversation as the other man kept repeating "fresh" "fresh" "fresh". The young server, (who was very kind and apologetic) came back and said that the cook/owner (not sure who he was) says it's fresh and cannot do anything. Very disappointed in this. We ended up not eating this plate and paying for it as well without it being replaced. Again, I know what fresh beef tastes like, and this was not fresh beef. Hopefully the ownership realizes you cannot serve food like this or you will lose lifelong customers. read more

Very good Chinese food. However the Vietnamese and Thai were just mediocre. They like to mix a lot of curry in their dishes which is odd for some plates. My favorite so far is anything with the black bean sauce. Also the portions are very big. Come with a big appetite :) read more

I was told about this restaurant by a Phillipino friend; I went, and I can't stop going; My favorite appetizer is the summer tofu rolls, they're fresh and the vegetables crunchy. The peanut butter sauce they serve with it is awesome: sweet and spicy. I really love their vegetable MeFen. Everytime I go I am greeted with a warm smile and the people are friendly. At one time it WAS one of the better restaurants in McAllen. But recently, the prices have gone up (understandable) and the portions have gotten smaller. When there is something wrong with the food nothing is done about it. Once I found a screw in my food and informed the waitress. She said she spoke to owner and was told we could have a 20% discount. This last visit, the food was really bad. The chicken fried rice tasted as though it was re heated in the microwave and the pad thai was too sour. Will not be going back. T read more

Went for lunch and dinner. The food portion is awesome and the food is tasty. I had the orange chicken for lunch and curry chicken for dinner. The prices are reasonable.
